The deal is that there will be dishes for every nationality on request. For the Brits this means putting up big dishes pointing to the 'Sky' satellite which will give you the option to go for the complete Sky package or just go for the free view channels. The other nationalities will be allowed to request a (usually much smaller) dish pointing at their favorite satellite.

Hi Max
Can you let us know on this site when the satelite dishes are due to be installed, and again when they have actually been installed so that we can order our boxes. Also can you let us know the details and phone number of the company, so that we can arrange installation with them. What is the actual process of getting a box installed once the dishes are up. Does it mean a cable going from the dish, down the outside of the building to our apartment, like in the UK. Will the installer need access to the apartment. Or will we just need to plug the box into the aerial socket already installed in the apartment to receive a signal.
Thanks

The moment the contract is signed I will inform you all which company it is and make sure that they take your orders. The cables can run through the building; there is already a provision for that. He will need access to the apartment for the last stretch of cable so that has to be arranged.
The contract is not yet signed as there was an important omission: see my report on the weekly meeting later this evening. It won't postpone the process by much though.

The contract is adjusted, translated into Spanish and signed by both parties.
On Friday the first dish will go up on block 9. If you want a connection to the big sky/freeview dish you pay 195E. The settop box has to be bought as well but that's your choice. The company (Gemsat communications) can provide you with settop boxes according to your wishes (freeview, sky, sky contract etc).
You will let them know what you want and provide access to your apartment. If you want an extra connection to your apartment (f.i. for the bedroom) thats possible for an extra 100 Euros
Other nationalities can get a dish as well. This will be provided at a cost of 125E per connection.
In all cases there won't be any maintenance costs as that's the responsibility of Gemsat. It also doesn't cost the community money so you don't some extra hidden costs through your community fees.
It would be great if you inform me by PM if you want a connection as I can help scheduling them. They need at least a client to put up a dish so your block gets connected earlier if we know the demand.
TO BE CLEAR: I'M IN NO WAY FINANCIALLY OR OTHERWISE INVOLVED IN THIS SETUP OR THIS COMPANY. I only wanted to make sure that there is a safe and well maintained installation available for every one at the lowest cost possible and I succeeded in doing just that. You pay them directly and my own company has nothing to do with it.

Hi Max,
That is such good news about the sky dishes and we thank you for your time and effort getting this sorted - we are delighted to be able to get English T.V. as we are sure many more of you are as well. Thanks again.

The Gemsat people are on site today installing the first dish. I walked up the road and there were all these people wanting to talk to them! What amazed me was that before I even got to the top of the hill I was already being asked questions like. Were they definitely the cheapest? Where can I see all the quotations? So to clarify the situation. Although not in any way opposed to a communal satelite system the president was worried about spending to much community money on them as we may well need the money we´ve got for other things (I´ll report on that under community matters). All the original proposals required the community to pay for the dishes. The deal that has been negotiated with Gemsat is that they own and maintain the dishes in return for being the official sole supplier for the community. They were the only company prepared to offer this deal. It will be a quality instalation with big dishes and proper boosters and splitters. The only amount you have to pay Gemsat is the 195€ for connecting you to their dish and bringing the cable to your apartment. After that you can bring your own box from home, buy one from Gemsat or another supplier of your choice. Personally I will buy one from them because even if it is a few Euros more they will then be responsible for ensuring I am left with a good working system.

hi hi
Thanks to Max and Dave for the good deal with TV
We are in block 4 and would like TV - but we would like a danish channel. Hope that will not delay the process.
What channels do you get if you want SKY? Is SkY the only one? I have tried to find out about the possibilities in having a Danish channel and some others. Gemsat replied very quickly - he would try to find out. It seems to be a good compagny to get hold on.

No problems Grethe,
I negotiated long and hard with this company and one stipulation is that they have to provide all European nationalities with a dish of their choice. I even included the Spanish because some of them want Spanish satellite. They have - by contract made up by me- provide everyone with a solution.
So Danish television will be an option. Just contact them for details about set top boxes etc. The dish will be provided as that's part of the deal I made with them.

Just want to second what Janmet said. Keep up the good work, we all appreciate it.
For those of you looking to get Sky in the bedrooms as well, dont forget you will only be able to watch what is on your box in the living room, not 2 different channels at the same time. The only way to watch 2 different channels is if they run another line from the dish which he is charging €100 for, and you will need to buy a second box as well. The connections to the bedrooms also depends on the type of tv you have. If you have plasmas or TV's from the UK that is ok, any others I was told would have to be checked on the day of installation.

Hello all, yes well done Max we have finally got there with the communal dishes. I have been living here for seven months now and was one of those who couldn't wait and had my own system fitted. I went for the cheap option (euro satellite solutions) and have had nothing but trouble, because of the quality of the dish, so they get to come back out and re-align it and charge you 40euros. I now strongly advise people against this cowboy outfit and when Gemsat were recomended to me I have used them ever since.. They might be slightly more expensive then other cowboys in the local paper but there after sales sevice is excellent. They install your system without interfering with the existing spanish cables (I still wanted the spanish TV ) unlike Euro-sat who just used that cable and lost me 40 channels. I haven't been active on this site for a while (no phone lines on Don Juan remember) but have just got connected with IVERBANDA same as Max so I feel that we have joined the world again. I am glad to here you all thanking Max for his efforts, he is doing far more beyond the call of duty, which we see on a daily bases.

Hello all
This is all very interesting regarding the dishes.
I had a system fitted by the dealer behind Gardenia Park which I think may be the one calv is referring to but I am sure you will correct me if it is not. This was fitted over a year ago in another apt and I have and I found them to be friendly, efficient, and until now no problems at all. I am sure that, in common with all companies, there are good reports and bad reports. Personally my view is that even though Gemsat may or may not be expensive, they are the appointed company so the option is simple we either pay their rate or switch the TV off! I am with Davmunster on one thing though at least if Gemsat supply the box and dish etc if there are any faults then either way they are the ones to sort it. That is the reason I am prepared to pay their price and anyway, calv says they are ok and he has experience of them.

Hi all,
Thanks for all the nice words. It was a lot of work, but I wanted to find a solution which was reasonable for all nationalities and that was difficult. In a 100% British community it wouldn't make a difference if the community costs was high as it would be shared by people with a vested interest. In our mixed environment with lots of Spanish, some other nationalities etc. it was quite difficult. I got quotes from four companies and they were all very expensive for the community AND the private owners.
Thanks to Calv I finally got in touch with Gemsat and found them very professional. It's a pity they coudn't provide the community with a Spanish contract (which by law is needed) so I had to arrange that but their attitude and service were very good and their offer the best of all.
I already knew that the "cowboy" (yes the one across Gardenia Park) was no solution as the few illegally installed dishes on the roof were quite often not working properly. Loose bolts and thin poles are a dangerous combination in a windy area!. You will not only loose your signal but chances are that the dish will land on someone’s head. Breaking open and damaging our communal cabinets didn't help for their reputation. It will cost the community some money to repair all the damages made by this company.
Regarding the higher costs compared to this company I want to state a few things:
- the dishes are larger which is more expensive but guarantees a much better reception
- you never have to pay for service costs as that's part of the contract
- it's much safer as they use high quality materials and constructions
- like Marv says they pull separate cables instead of using the existing cables for Spanish television. That's more expensive to them, but even if you never want to look at Spanish television it's better for the resale / rental value of your apartment.
I have put up an announcement in every block’s notice board (hallway ground floor) so that people know who to contact. If you have additional questions (and lots of you have as I can see in my PM box) please contact them directly as I’m not involved in the selection of set top boxes or the scheduling of appointments for installation!
Max

Hi all..
I am glad that the people who needed to have the sky dishes in stalled have finally succeeded, however I was wondering what will happen to the illegal ones already installed, what if they have caused damage to the roof of these apartments?. How many dishes are going to be installed for all nationalities?. and what effect will all these dishes have on the people living immediately below ? Can the dishes be erected on the lift shaft roof?. I am sure between someone out there will have the answers.
Happy viewing Bevron.
