Hi Jaqib,
Regarding leaving a car near the airport, I believe you can rent a parking space for around 360 euros per year. The minimum contract is for 1 year. It works out much cheaper than hiring if you go more than 4 times a year, however you have to consider the purchase and tax etc, but if you rent it to your guests, family etc it might be worth it.
Regarding a pool in the Azucena, when we enquired we were told that even the smallest pool won't fit in the garden space as there needs to be a metre space around the pool, which would make the pool about the size of a bath. We were a bit disapointed at first but accepted it in the end and thought it's one less thing to worry about. :o)
Steve.

Hi Jaqib.
Just a thought. It would probably be better to buy a car in Spain to put at the Airport. All would be left hand drives with so much more choice than over here and of course i would think that they would also be a lot cheaper.
Hi Redman.
I also thought a small pool in the Azucena might be a possibility, but would a plunge pool or splash pool as opposed to a SWIMMING POOL still need the 1 metre around it??
Cheers. Bob.

Reference purchasing a car in Spain, my personal investigations have noted that they are actually a bit more expensive in Spain than elsewhere in Europe. I am currently in the process of having a car from Germany delivered here to England at an excellant price which we will bring over next year when hopefully our house will be ready!!

Hommy. Check how long you have to own the car before transferring
the registration to Spanish plates. It used to be a year but they
change the rules all the time. Aso You can bring the car here as
a personal import if you change the registration within 3/6
months. Any longer and you have to pay import tax on the original
cost of the car.

Hommy,
Who have you ordered your car thru? I will be living out there and had intended buying a left hooker in Spain. I know that that there are quite a few import companies that will bring in cars from abroad for you. Have you imported before? I dont have any experience at importing. Any advice would be gratefully received.

We found Spain quite an expensive place to buy a car and until recently
there was not much of a 2nd hand market because the Spanish bought a
car and kept it for life. With the growth that has accured in the
past 10 years and the influx of Ex Pats this is changing. If you
buy a second hand car privately there is a transfer tax. If
you buy from a dealer the tax is included in the purchase price
normally.
We bought a Left Hand drive in the UK. You can bring a car with
you if you are relocating to Spain as a personal import. You have
to change the registration onto Spanish plates within 6 months but I
would say 3 to be on the safe side, otherwise you pay an import tax,
which is based on the original cost of the car. At the time we moved
here you also had to own the car for a year at least. Your lawyer
could probably give you up to date info on the situation at present.
It is not difficult, just a little time consuming , to change the
registration over. Once we had the paperwork we employed a Gestor
who charged us 65 Euros for dealing with the official side of things
with Murcia Traffico, taxing the car and organising the new plates for
us.

You have to think about the cost of - insurance, car tax and ITV ( MOT ) - are these prices going to be better than hiring a car a few times a year?
If you do not have all of these on a car in Spain then the ploice will have you.
