i understand the concerns about community and i thought so too. At the moment we have no president, no community even and within the walls of balcony, nobody can force removal. Communal dish will be fine when or if we get one but we have also been told that some terrible arguements can arise if only half the residents want to pay and the others say they not using it. However, i reckon it will be a fair while yet until people get to that stage, given the delay for release of blocks etc, so i am just going to try and get tv going for us for now.
The satellite dish already installed on roof is for spanish satellite i was told and that we wouldn't receive english channels from it. i did find that a bit strange too so asked a few different engineers and they said there was no way around being able to get uk channels until dish installed.
We then did look around and you will be surprised when you go on other complexes how many dishes are individually installed when you look. Of course, when english tv is available i would not need my own dish anyway so the issue would not be a problem.
I'll look into it further before i rush into anything anyway. Engineers told me that any communal dish or private dish wouldn't contradict each other. the dish is positioned towards gibraltar as there is no facility in spain for sky. Its not even officially legal! how mad is that. Although, i might have been totally misinformed as usual. Juan was getting somebody to have a look at it this week so i'll let you know any progress on information from him.
I did try and post to ask about things like this but obviously we have been very concerned about completion first and foremost and i just made some enquiries whilst i was out there.
What has anybody else thought about it since they moved in?

Just got back from the Spurs game it's late and I don't want to rustle through my Duquesa files right now but I am sure in the back of my mind we were told that there would be communal dishes for English TV. Maybe they left out the English bit, but the lawyers are speaking to the developer why not ask them? I know because they never get back to you!

Hi,
just back from a few days furnishing my apartment in block 4. I bought a TV and have found spanish tv and spanish satellite tv is installed the sat. tv blanks out after a few minutes presumably this is because you have to subscribe?? I did my snagging with very few error's hopefully these will be rectified on my return at easter. I didn't see anyone else on the complex, with the exception of the gardeners. The pool has been emptied but needs cleaning. The lift doesn't work. Apartment is fine real glad of my purchase. Water/Electric no problems. Weather terrible!!! Purchased most of my furniture through Ikea in Malaga and Carrefour the one past Sotogrande. The road is progressing nicely, although the dust created ny the wagon's is quite bad.
cheers

Thanks Trevor. I really like when people post their news like this. It cheers me up no end. I am looking forward to when we will all be in the same place at once. It's bound to happen one day. Keep your news coming everyone. Margo

We have just had our mortgage confirmed so all systems go now. Hurrah.
Trevor, we intend going the Ikea/Carrefour route. How did you get the furniture from Malaga to the apartment.

I think that maybe if you want English TV you will have to get the dish pointing correctly. Now wheather that means that you can realign the current dish on the roof that has been placed by the developer or purchase your own dish. I do not know. Obviously it all depends on who else is residing in your block. If everyone is English I can see no reason why the current dish cannot be realigned, but the chances are that not everyone will be English and as the saying goes 'when is Rome...' I am quite happy to pay for a dish to go on top of my roof pointing to Gib and then anyone in my block who want to tap into it pay a fee, I think the fee is something like 75 - 100 euros. Alternatively I am happy to pay the fee to tap into to another's dish if that is possible. All I know is that I will most certainly want to have access to English TV even if it is only the beeb and ITV. I cannot see why you cannot have another dish on the roof as there are already dishes up there. I agree that a dish on the balcony would look unsightly and may cause others residents to complain so for that reason I would not put one on the balcony, and anyway I need the room for sunbathing

I put a question on the Home Forum and here is the reply I got..........................."On our development an owner pays the €500- €600 for their system, which includes dish, box, installation, etc, usually fitted out of the way on a roof. The dish is fitted with a quad lnb which allows four outputs from the dish. You can get an octo quad, but apparently they are not very reliable. If anyone else wants satellite, they plug their box into one of the feeds and pay the person that originaly had the dish installed €75 towards the cost......................................" so that's how some people deal with that one. Sounds like a plan. Margo

So bascially someone has to pay the one fee of approx 500 - 600 euros and then if three others in the block want to connect to the english satelite they pay the one off fee of 75 euros to connect to your dish.
Now do we just go ahead or do we ask permission???????

you have to adjust the satelite to the astra 2 @28.2 degrees south east ,then you need a good digi box ,the older pace n340 is regarded as one of the better ones at picking up the weak signal in Spain. If that doesnt work all the sky dishes on the roof need tilting so they collect water and hey presto we have our own bird baths.

i did enquire about the sky dish going on the roof, always thinking that several apts can use one dish and it would become communal anyway. They said it would be best but have to get permission from committee, residents and builders etc. However we cannot get this permission as there is no-one to permit just yet regarding residents etc. I think i will just ask the builders for access and have it put up on roof next month anyway. I was planning on doing that but then the permission thing limited us to having it temporarily on the wall of balcony. I hope we all don;t have to wait months to have a tv now too
Alan, i too thought we were told communal tv, but it is spanish i am afraid.
Trevor, could you only get spanish channels on your points too? At least your satellite ariel works, mine was short a connection but i was led to believe that the dishes on the roof only provide spanish whichever way they are directed. Did you manage to find out any more? And yes, wasn't that weather awful.

Hi,
on the satellite chanel it was mainly spainsh i think there was 1 program in english but it certainly wasn't itv or bbc, trouble is with the sat. channel it blanked out after 2 minutes..
Regarding transport for furniture, i hired a renault kango, which was big enough for a bed settee and anything else really, you just have to purchase some rope to tie the tailgate down. May sound a bit heath robinson, but really it was no trouble i recon i've spent about 4keuro and have 4 twin beds all the bedding, all my lights, fitted out both bathroom's, and have 2 sofa's (1 a sofa bed) next time i'm over it's terrace furniture, dining room table & chairs and curtains then i'm done. Still need to get the 'free' lcd tv of the developer though..

Yeah, I guess we're getting to the time when we have to ask that kind of thing. I bet we'll find stuff on the General Forum to help with it all. It's to do with forming a management committee and all that, isn't it? But, it would be nice to have some communal loungers, because then they would all be the same and would look classy!! And classy is what we're all about, isn't it? Isn't it? Margo

I am in the process of translating my deeds at the moment; if I come across sun lounger's I'll let you know. I do not think that the developer will be supplying lounger’s, I assumed that you buy your own until such time that a committee has been formed and they can then be purchased for the whole community, in the meantime It may be a case of if you want to be sure of somewhere to lounge then buy your own. I agree four/five years ago there may have been 'sales talk' concerning satellite dishes and lounger’s etc, unfortunately 'sales talk' and reality are not the same.
At the moment for me constant running water would be nice next time I am there!

The Mangement Committee will be responsible for the choice and purchase of sun loungers, even though the Committe doesn't exist yet.
Can I through an idea in, if I may ?
I had thought that with 16 blocks, if you had guests arriving at night, in the dark, how would they ever find, say, Block 10 ?
What I would have suggested (if I had been staying) was that each pool has four blocks facing unto it.
Why not have each pool area a different colour, eg. Orange Square, Blue Square etc. etc. Then the loungers & awnings are keyed to that colour.
Kill two birds with one stone.
(You will have the same problem with awnings, parosols etc)

Which awnings and parasols would they be. You,ll be wanting easy chairs and ash trays next.
I was only thinking of about 10 loungers (total) to keep costs down. I'll be down at 4:30 in the morning to reserve 2.
