Hi All,

Does anyone seem to be getting extremely large electricity bills,  I rec'd a bill  in Dec for 45 euros for approx one weeks use and have just rec'd my bill for Dec/Jan. I was only at the apt for 10 days in total in that period and turned the boiler off when i left and have just rec'd a bill for 73.69euros.

Seems a fortune to me for a 2 bed apt or am i just being tight.

Hi Kris

It may help to understand that the bills run from the 1st day of one month to the last day of the following month for the standing charge. The bill, if it is the same as mine, is then debited about 2 weeks later. It may be that the bill is covering a longer than normal period in respect of the standing charge due to the date that you completed on(?)

We completed 18th October & our first bill, up to 30th November was €17.61 with about 3 days minimal usage of electricity.

The second bill for 1st December to 31st January was €60.88 with 14 days use over Christmas, including using an oil fired radiator.

We expect our 3rd bill to be pretty much the same as the December one as the apartment was used for 14 days again, with the air con on warm.

Our electricity bills appear to be the same, ie 75 Euro's for 2 weeks holiday use or 40 Euro's for 1 week, which does seem to be higher than we originally anticipated (we had 1 week in September and another December so they fell into the different monthly bills). 

This is, of course, assuming that none of Key mare snagging staff have used any electricity whilst they've had access in our absence.  We'll probably get a truer picture when we have the key back and changed the lock code on the front door so we have control over who is accessing the apartment.

However, on a lighter note, the water appears to be pretty consistent at 10 euro's every 2 months.

I must say I'm impressed with the Bank in Spain - I can view my bills online by clicking on the relevant direct debit which has been taken (only found this out the other day while browsing their website). 

Our Bank is Caja Murcia & for every D/D taken, there is a PDF file attached which gives the full view of the bill, including usage etc.

Their online banking is really easy to use too.

Unicaja are excellent too, for service ie in branch and respond promptly to emails etc which I used regularly when coming up to completion, giving a real personal service.   Their website is easy to use and converts to English for those who need it.

Getting back to the thread though, it looks as though our electric bill is high compared with others, so will see if we can check the meter somehow when we're next out and do our own readings (plus get our key back of course).
