Has anybody been able to negotiate or re organize there date for signing? I have been given the 4th July (J0256) but due to my business commitments cannot create any time off until September  - which in fairness was around the time it was suggested i would complete in March.

Hi twos

I don't mean to upset you but we tried to do exactly that without success.  We asked our Spanish lawyer to put some pressure on but PW's completion department, although pleasant about it, wouldn't do anything to help us.  In the end we had to give our lawyer power of attorney to attend the completion signing for us.

By all means try it on with them, you might be luckier than we were.

Good luck!
Tim

Hi

I was speaking to the completions dept yesterday to try to get our signing moved from August, when we are in the canaries, until September, as I cannot get more time of work in August.  Originally our completion dates were given as December, hence us booking summer hols!  Lady I spoke to was very nice but no way were they going to shift on dates - had to be in August.

Just getting solicitor to do it now

Hi

A lot of other forum users have written that they've tried ro move their dates but PW wouldn't budge, but I did it without problem..  PW rang in April to give us a date of 04/07. I just said it wasn't convenient (didn't even say why) and asked them to move it to  18th July. They came back 3 or  days later to confirm that was fine, and  I received written confirmation of the new appointment  a few days after that.

My solicitor had also said that we could refuse any date "within reason", so I get the distinct impression that PW are trying it on but if push came to shove, they'd probably have to show some fleixibility.  I don't much much about Spanish law, but surely forcing someone into given another party power of attorny can't be right (or ethical)?     I'd stick to my guns and give them a list of possible convient dates if if were you - but then I guess it comes down to a question of how much that could delay things.

Good luck anyway..

Thanks for the replies. Can anyone give me an indication of costs for POA. Does this fall under the service of a full conveyance ie 1-2% of the PPrice or is the POA a smaller service and subsequently a smaller fee?

Hi Twos

When I considered it I was told by my solicitor that it wuold only cost around 50 euro's, however he did say that the paperwork you need to do this has to be witnessed and so forth over here and he doesn't know how much that would cost or how long it would take, I never went any further with enquiry but there are a few on here that have taken that road and are probably better informed than I am.

Hi

Just done a power of attorney from the UK.  You need to get your solicitor to e-mail the Power of Attorney document to you written in both English and Spanish and then make an appointment with a local Notory Public in your area.  The one I went to see in the Rochdale area (Lancs) charged £100 for his fees and £27 which are the fees for the Foreign Commonwealth Office.
Once the document was signed the Notory Public chap seals it and sends it off to the Foreign Commonwealth Office in London where they do their bit and then send it back to the Nortory Public who then lets you know when to collect it. You then need to get it back to your soliciotor in Spain.  It took 2 weeks to get it back from the Foreign Commonwealth Office, whole process would estimate takes about 4 weeks.  It was cheaper if there is only one party signing the POA but our is in joint names so it was dearer.  Hope this helps, it was an expense we didn't expect but on the whole cheaper than flights in July so we had to take it on the chin.........!!!!
