I was in Spain in May this year and had the television man out to fix the tuning on the Telmicro TV, he told me that most tv broadcasting in Spain was illegal and if your caught its a federal offence. He told me that Telmicro ws the only authorised TV company in spain hence the removal of some of the channels. Who can you trust these days.Im beginning to think is it worth moving to spain after all the hassle this country produces

Paul, the Television Man has a website which was "under construction" after Telmicro closed down Sky channels a few months back then it was ressurrected without it mentioning Telmicro (when things calmed down) although it featured strongly before. Today it is bak to "under construction" again.

I think most people say what you want to hear, smiffy.

there are no official rebroadcasters of UK TV in spain.
these companies may have a correct lisence to use certain frequencies for broadcasting, but they are being pulled as they dont have permission to broadcast certain content. in theory all tm clients can be charged with "receipt of stolen goods"

Satantpcguy,

I do have a dish.

The other stuff you talk about i don't understand re slingbox and zatto etc. (I'm a woman for goodness sake) .

You say in your post "God, wish I was in your area" if you were what would you be advising?

i deal only in dishes...never have had anything to do with rebroadcasters...with a dish you get the signal direct from the satellite..and not a second or thier generation signal like the rebroadcsating services.

a sling box is a bit like a transmitter and receiver system. it will broadcast one channel from the box connected to a satellite receiver, to another sling box. but the advantage of them is that you can connect them to the internet, so you can have one box in the uk and one in spain.

but you will only watch what it on the host tv / receiver. and it all depends on internet speeds....its not too good to watch on a boig screen, but on a smaller pc or tv screen its not too bad.

zatoo (spelling??) is an online streaming service. they have signed may official agreements to streamd tv channels, but only to specific countries. the software checks where you are, and makes sure you can onlty receive tv in that country. so if you connect to zatoo in spain, you will only see spainsh tv channels.

you can bypass this by using a proxy server,, which involves changing the settings in your pc and router, and making you pc connect to a server in the uk, and thus fooling the software that you are in the UK , and therefore opening up uk tv channels - this can even be used to fool the bbc iplayer service.

hope this helps.....

Thanks Satandpcguy
Or should I call you Satan for short (only kidding honest).
I do find it all very confusing so will see what's happening on the community when I get over there but thank you for your help. All i want is a bit of telly for the teenagers, not so much for me. I am just annoyed that we have paid out so much money to have it all installed only to find that it was money down the drain. Hence the requests for advice so hopefully we won't have to spend out again on a load of c***p that lasts a year

what a nightmare - the Olympics are on and the kids are off school !!!  HELP !!

Anyway - does anyone have any views (true information) on Superbeam as an alternative or are the chances that they will go exactly the same way as Telmicro ??!!!!

I am right in assuming that the only real way of obtaining english TV is via a proper sky system which is paid for via a UK bank account ?? as per Lee-digital website ??

Are there any spanish digital systems which would provide english speaking channels as there were certainly a few spanish channels that were english speaking (Calle 13, Sci-Fi, and the movie channels etc) on TM.

Views ???  Looks my local DVD shop is going to get a lot of business out of me in the next few weeks !! and the boeard games will be have to dusted off !!!!

Hi Sheriff
Hopefully we will get some info today. Know what you mean about kids off school!!!
We have sky over here and if there is a way of sorting something out with sky before we come over, would be handy. It probably seems like I'm telly mad, but not the case, just so difficult to arrange things when we are so far away and if it can be sorted out then that's one less thing to have to do when we are on our holibobs  Other than that, I guess we'll have to wait and see what happens.
Just don't want to go to more expense and find that it will be switched off again in a couple of months.

Well, I listen daily to http://www.wave106fm.com/  on my PC, it transmits from near our place in Spain so I hear the local news on it & "rumour" has it they all will go the same way though Telmicro must've done things really wrong to have been kicked off the air when others are transmitting, don't you think ? Personally, I'd not do anything regarding parting with your money right now, we certainly won't. Bet those who are renting properties out are worrying as, let's face it, families want Sky channels & lots have paid a tidy rental expecting Sky TV as part of the total rental package.

Wondered why I'd had no influx of emails this morning, Virgin server is experiencing problems !  Thank God I have 2 Gmail addresses, a Hotmail address & a Yahoo one as well  but my Virgin one is my default. My Gmail one is for EOS mail.

Hi All,

Just joined as I had to see what was going on and give my 2 penny’s worth!

It’s illegal so being switched off..but why is it always only Telmicro?

All the other companies cannot guarantee that you will get Sky channels etc but what about the rest of the channels? Even the Xtreme and Calle 13 etc.. I cannot get any guarantee from the likes of Torresat or Superbeam that they will even be able to transmit Spanish FTV channels.

When Telmicro went off last time a few months back I rewired our aerial back to the community system and with my TV, which has a digital tuner, I get quite a few channels. For me the important channels are:

TVE1 and TVE24 Spanish news…I am trying to improve my Spanish!!

Antena 3 Some movies in English

Sony Entertainment (same as Telmicro charged me for!) English content

Disney Channel (Yes again you thought Telmicro were doing you a favour! This is free off your aerial)

Telecinco I watch the F1 on this channel and USED to listen to commentary on Telmicro! At least I can still watch it and there’s about half the ads that ITV put on and when there are ads there’s a pic in pic to keep an eye on the action!

Teledeporte another freebee we thought Telmicro were providing!

Radio stations as well.

There are more take a look at this site for a list available on a link i cant post!! email me and i will forward the link!

I think I am just going to bite the bullet and get a dish. That way I can control my own tv viewing…FREESAT seems a good option and once I’ve paid for the dish its free. Same for the Free stuff on SKY. Maybe I can convince the OH to have a SKY sports package! You never know.

Also for your info. Polaris World have a community TV problem which I have heard they are solving with a company which will basically retransmit but through their cable system. Will that be in question over the next few months? They are all paying about €100 and 18€ per month subs.

If there are any installers out there that want to quote me for a sat solution please feel free:

I understand I will need a 2.4m dish (Portuguese) incl. base and installation etc.
1 combined FREESAT/Sky box if such an item exists or separate boxes
Sky card for free channels
FREESAT card

Anything else?

I live in La Zenia

Regards

Mark
