Hello everyone,
I know we have been discussing the guy who seems to be quite cheap in transporting stuff to Spain. I am considering this option when we complete in the New Year. The only question I have is regarding electricals ie: TV's, micrwaves, toasters, etc. Does anyone know if they are compatible because it was my intention to buy these type of things in Spain.
Any advise would be appreciated.

Hi Phil and Debbie,
We were originally going to buy electrical items here to ship over with all the other furniture. I even spoke to Currys to see if they could confirm whether the items would work in Spain. They said they should be OK but the warranties would be invalid if the items were taken to Spain. For that reason, and because other people on the forum had quoted some very competitive prices for electrical items, we decided not to take them with us and bought them whilst we were in Spain. We got the majority of the items from Carrefour and had no trouble getting them delivered within a couple of days - and that was in August.

Hi
We bought a British TV with a built in DVD player and freeview - took it over and it picked up all local Spanish Channels, no problems... We also took a kettle - changed the plug over there... it was fine.
We felt the white goods were not that different in price so we bought a package over there from Furniture Plus who installed the washing machine, dishwasher and fridgefreezer.

OK,
So I am confused, first of all I thought yep Sony & the likes are international brands that come with multi lingual instruction booklets which gets me thinking they are going to tune in to the local signal automatically once you do the auto tune on the remote. Then I read a post that says they have to run through a Spanish DVD so put any Ukk purchases on hold. Now I am back to thinking all will work OK again because WanderingWoman has already taken a set over and got it up and running OK. Any further evidence either way ???
The competetive prices of several months ago have now slipped away somewhat with the euro ex rate and I think UK electrical goods are now cheaper even with transportation costs (part of a shared load - another thread).
Regards,

Hiya
I will try and get my other half (Twi22ler) to post an answer for you as he spent time doing research before we decided on buying the TV in the UK (which as you know is cheaper). I too was wary as I have read the same posts as you had!!!
All I can say, our cheap TV/DVD/Freeview works absolutely fine - picks up all local channels!
Good Luck with whatever you decide!

All I can say is that we bought a 26" LCD with a built in dvd and freeview from ebuyer (link below to the 32" version.)
http://www.ebuyer.com/product/134825
Everything worked fine, the voltage is the same and I had a euro lead for pc type connection as well. Just plug in the aerial co-ax and auto tune it in. Spain is PAL format the same as UK and as far as I understand it the freeview in the UK has one less channel than Spain. We got about 40+ channels including Disney and Sony channel that have english programmes.
Can't quite understand why you would need to run the co-ax through a spanish dvd as all it does is pass the signal straight through?
Hope this helps.

Thank's for that guys,
If it works OK for you, I am happy it will work OK for the rest of us. Seeing as I am not in a mad rush for a TV I will see how the prices look over there next week now the £ is so weak and keep my options open to bag a bargain in the sales back home (sure to be cut throat this year now) and possibly transport as a part-load with other stuff or even make one of our visits a driving trip for a change - we always said we would have to take doggykins once or twice !

Hi Guys,
I know that in most places over there the TV's are far more expensive than those identical in the UK, however we got ours 2 weeks ago in Saturn (electrical store on the same estate as Ikea) and managed to get a good deal (well in terms of the usual TV prices in Spain). We got 37" Samsung LCD HD for 599 euros (this was the shop std price). As we also bought our microwave, iron, hd dvd player, fridge freezer and washing machine from here on the same day, we negotiated a discount and they delivered everything within 3 days (on a Saturday) at a cost of 25 euro (std charge per delivery, not item).
They have a huge selection, well worth a visit, just be warned that most staff do not speak english, so take a Spanish dictionary or as we found one of the guys in the tv section spoke a little english, so he trawled each department with us!
