Hi,

Thought I saw a post before by somebody who has bought a shade sail to fit the upstairs roof terrace on a 2 bed at Jardines? Can't seem to find the post now. Has anybody purchased either in Spain or UK, any of the shade sails to fit pergola? If so, did it work out. I'm considering buying one in UK and taking it out but am nervous!

Funds have run out now so I'm hoping to get away with something cheaper in the short time while saving the pennies until we can afford an awning!

Thanks,

Hi Rowan,

I know a few people who bought rectangular awnings from IKEA, someone posted a pic of one.  I couldn't get the rectangular one but did pick up some triangular ones at £1.99 each.  Wasn't sure if they would work, but thought I would try.  Fitted it when I was last out, and think it is fine - used 2, folded back on themselves.  Fitted 10 hooks on the Pegoda, so they are removeable (very easily).  Won't be everyones cup of tea, but i think they work fine.  Will post a pic soon.

We have seen a shop in Campsol A which supply sail shades, the same as they have fitted outside the supermarket on Candado. In our opinion these look better than the PW supplied awnings and will blend in with the Morrocan style of the Oasis etc. The prices went from €70 to €220 depending on the size.

Re Sail Shades.

We were over in January &  experienced very strong winds ( Not us , the weather) It was so strong that it tore  the corner s off 2 of the sail shades outside the Bar. Best to get then down I think ,once the decent weather disapears. Otherwise I think they look great

We bought the IKEA canopy as a temporary measure. We've been advised to fit it relatively tight rather than billowing and that it should overlap at one end slightly providing a sort of pelmet which should add to the shade offered. Not sure how this will progress but the pics of the sails in place look fine. We bought two canopies at the time and have considered using one as a back panel but have to see how it all works first. We planned to take it down when no-one is staying.

Hi, did you get the Ikea shade sails in Murcia or the UK?  We had a look last week in Murcia and couldn't see anything like that.  Checked on their website too and couldn't find anything. Thanks.

I have taken mine down whilst not there.  I have fitted 10 screws with eyes to the Pegoda, and the awnings fit with hooks and tensioning springs (3 of each were included in the pack).  I got them last August at IKEA in the UK - they were an end of season sale item - and I was told that as "summer was over" they would not be stocking more.  I got 4 of them, as (at £1.99 each) it was cheaper than buying the extra springs and hooks I needed, and also leaves 2 spares so that I can wash one pair and still have the other up.  They are not on the UK web site at the moment, don't know if they will come back at the start of summer.

Thanks for that.  Very good price too.  I'm going to try and buy in our Edinburgh store this weekend.

Good spot Dan, I missed them online!

Don't know how well the rectangles fit, but can confirm that the triangular ones fit pretty well, as I said below I used two (with the thin ends folded back), using the hooks allows you to take them down when not required, even at £20 I think they are pretty good value.

Haven't got the measurments to hand but we did have them when we bought the canopies, so they were roughly the right size.. We will try them out this summer.

Out of the two sizes of canopies in Ikea, which size does everyone recommend?

Hi Kelly,

I haven't seen the rectangular one up, but I think 2 of the triangular ones work pretty well - I posted some pics last week so you can see.  I am sure someone posted a pic of the rectangular canopy some time back.

Hi,

Haven't been on forum last few days so just been reading all the replies, thanks to all. IKEA canopies sound like a good idea, delighted to hear they seem to be back in stock again this year. Will definitely check our local store.

Thanks again.
