The TV set top boxes are now available for purchase from the Sales office (Cash only). They are 400 Euros including IVA (VAT). Guaranteed for 2 years. However the price includes Spanish, German and French TV which is useless to the majority of us. I know there are some Germans who have bought here but there are also Dutch people and the Dutch have to buy an extra card to get Dutch TV.

It is delivered and installed by Polaris Telecomms as part of the cost, takes all of 10 mins and it does just plug in but they set it up.
Apparently other boxes will not work?

Thank you for the information. Any clarification that this is a one off fee and no monthly ongoing cost? Any contract to sign to incldue your bank details on??!!!
I have read somewhere about 7 Euros(?) a month but It hink this was going to be part of the every changing maintenance fee which has not been agreed on as yet.

Hi Mick
Looking forward to seeing you and Lesley next week.Do you think it is worth bringing our spare Sky box with us or have they scrambled the signal so that you can't do this same as in La Torre?

I have paid my 400€ today under duress, a lot of money for a digi box.
But to answer your questions yes it is a one off cost and the box is guaranteed for two years, if it fails you have to pay a 35€ call out for engineer if it is a fault in the box you get your 35€ backif its your fauly i.e. power surge blows it up you loose the 35€ after 2 years i presume you have to payb to get it fixed.
Recommend like the TV it is plugged in to a surge protector.
The 7 Euros (average) is from the Budget its individual portion of the extortionate TV maintenance costs which everyone has to pay.
Hope this helps

Hi,
Can anyone shed any light on what decent English Channels you get for your 400 euros??
I am fearful of shelling out a considerable sum of money for endless Jeremy Kyle repeats & Ready Steady Cook.......
cheers

Hi Mike,
Can you take a look at the back of the box and tell me if it has any make/model information.
When they come around to install and you confirm that they did nothing else just pliged the box in and set it up? ( did you watch to see what settings they were altering? )
Thanks
Phil

I am sure other digiboxes will work, just need to know which ones.
We had FreeSat installed in our house in camposol, whilst our neighbour had sky. meant a bloody big dish on our roof 1.45m dia.
Our neighbour had spanish (euro) sat dish and needed a different digibox.
Now Polaris is not big enough to have his own exclusive digibox, so surely there must be some you can buy over the counter. Misght be worth while just talking to some of the satellite installers around. There are some in Mazarron. Rainbow Satellite is a good reputable company selling digiboxes, sky , freesat or other euro systems with our without dishes.

Hi all
Can someone help me me as I would like to be a 'blonde' at the moment.
What is a surge protector? As mentioned by Mick 'recommend like the TV it is plugged in to a surge protector'.
I have had my tv all the 4 times I've been out and I haven't had any 'power surges' ? (Only 'mature moments' he he).
No seriously, is my tv likely to blow up?
Please enlighten me

When Lightning strikes your house for example it will blow up your tv, computer etc.
Not uncommon quite a view friends of mine had this problem in the area, although so far we never had a problem... touch wood.
So either unplug your tv when you leave the house etc or buy an extention lead that has the surge protector.

TV an update and hope this helps.
I have had my 400€ box installed today. The engineer delivers it, puts in on the shelf, plugs it up to TV and connects to Aerial.
Switch on then enters an engineers pin code to get box working and gives a quick demo how to change channels. Easy.
We now have loads of English TV. (Beware some Channels esp BBC2 dont work till mid afternoon)
Now the Technical Bit the box is a WISI OR 51 COMBO Reciever DVB-C & DVB-T with Multi Language, Fast teletext, Electronic Program Guide, Over the air software updates, Conax CAS7 Decription. (Sure you find specs on the net if need them)
Before you all rush out and buy one the engineer told me PW recieve signal by satellite then encrypt it and send by cable to houses the boxes are bought in bulk and then frequency changed to work with polaris systems.
The box plugs in to the TV Aerial socket on wall not the SAT socket that is reserved for SKY
SKY the engineer said the SAT socket is for SKY and when operational (He does not know how long or when) the signal will be provided free so owners can use their own box and card for SKy so keep your boxes and SKYcards may be able to use it one day.
So if you only want sky you dont need the 400€ box but will have to wait some time, you will of course need a SKY contract
Hope this helps some of you make a decision on TV
Mick

In the other TV thread knocking about, I said that I couldn't get my Sky box to work when I tried it last Saturday. I experimented quite a lot with settings on the box and the cables in the wall cabinet near the kitchen. If anyone's wondering (Phil Ptan perhaps), I did also try getting a signal from the TV aerial socket, not just the Sat socket. Short of shoving a wire up my a**e I tried every conceivable permutation of settings & cables.

Ar*e as they say.
So it looks as if PW are retransmitting the FTA channels over DVB rather than providing a raw feed, so until they do provide the feed SKY is out. On a brighter side they are using a standard box that you should be able to pick up for around 90 Euros.

Then again,
It could be using a satellite fed. ( depending on the exact model ).
Mick - On the back where the cable is plugged in does it say 'LNB in' or 'ANT in"
If its LNB, could you take a look at the settings, and tell us how it's set?
Thanks
Phil

thanks for the list of channels Phil.
I'm not sure which would make my eyes water more..........paying out the 400 euros for a PW box..........or trying the unusual cable insertion method which Chris mentioned earlier
cheers
