Sorry for asking again as we know it has been brought up before. We are looking for info on getting internet in our apartment. We are over this week for two weeks and will speak with PW , but just wondering if there were any other good systems available.Noticed on a thread which i cant find something about a dongle?. Any info would be greatly appreciated.

dongles are expensive and slow.if you have a laptop buy a card from the surgery and then you can use the wifi system.it works outside so you dont need to sit inside.

Dongles no use when you have a english contract - FAR too expensive. If you are here regularly you are better of getting one from Telefonica/Movistar., but it is a contract so you're stuck with a monthly charge
Hwr 3G speeds are still poor compared to broadband. In Campsosol 1 euro for 20 minutes in camposol computers plenty avail, 1 euro for 30 mins in Ally Pally (plus the advantage of a nice drink), but only 3 available. On Sector A you have also a internet cafe with similar charges.

All,
Have just received the package price list from Dringman ( Thanks Dave )
View it here ptan_files/guiadeservicios.pdf
Cheapest Internet connection is 1Mb = €32 + IVA = €37.12/Month
You can use AreaNet ( Prepay Card) in your apartment, still trying to find out if you have to pay a phone line rental (€13.34/Month) or not people are being told different stories

Here are the answers I got, in writing, when I sent an email to the call center on May 28th:
1. What do we have to pay for the modem and installation if we want
internet with AreaNet cards?
A: You can get the Basic MODEM (80 euros) or you can get the Wifi MODEM (165 euros).
2. At what speed will our internet line be with the AreaNet card
solution? (1 MB, 2 MB or 4 MB?)
A: 1 MB.
3. Do we need to pay a monthly fee if we just want internet using Area
Net cards?
A: No.
4. Do we get a phone and a phone line for free for internal use at the
resort?
A: You have to buy a telephone (with us or any other company) and you will have the internal line for free.

Hi All
What are AreaNet cards?
Were do you get them?
How much do they cost?
How much time do you get Internet access for with them?
And how do you use them?
Regards
Phil

Hi Phil,
I think you can buy AreaNet cards in all Polaris World bars/stores. The card I bought at Manzano bar was 12 euros, and gives me 4 hours access to internet. It is simply a paper card with a username and password. I can use it either on PW´s internet terminals, like the two in manzano bar at CDA or at any other PW resort, or on my own computer where PW internet/wifi are installed and enabled (bars, restaurants and now; apartments).
You can log on and off as you like. I have used mine on several visits, with months in between. When you have no more time on your card, you just throw it and buy a new one. No monthly fees.
Not the best option if I am at CDA all year and on internet all day, but very flexible and worth a thought if I only visit CDA (or another PW resort) now and then, and mainly use the internet for checking/sending e-mail and basic surfing.
Kind regards,
Tom
