During our last visit at the end of May we had a fantastic day out up in the hills of the Sierra Espuna at the Hotel Mariposa where we had a lovely lunch followed by an off road tour on quad bikes. Never been into the Espuna before and this was an excellent taster and we will be back many more times.
Have a look at the website: http://www.espuna-adventure.com/ . This has been mentioned somewhere else on a forum on EOS but I thought it worth a mention here. The hotel is run by an English family who are very friendly and the place can only be described as a real gem in a lovely spot. It's only about 30 mins away from CDA and is worth a visit even if only for lunch.
They offer all sorts of activities and the next thing we will be doing is an all day mountain bike trip from the highest points in the Espuna back down to the hotel. (You get taken up to the top in a van so it will suit my level of fitness).
If you have got kids - especially teenagers - definately worth a look.

Hi Jonathan
What is the most direct way to the Marioposa Hotel. We tried to get to it in April and eventually (I think) found it. It was dark and we found the drive exhausting and a bit hairy - by the time we got there the place was more or less closed down. It has put us off going again but would love to try the quad biking.
What type of food did the hotel serve?

We had a great day also my teenage son loved it.
The most direct route is follow directions for Alhama and then follow signs for Mula takes you directly to the hotel.
We will certainly have more days up there.

Yes, the route is as described drive to Alhama then pick up signs to Mula and the hotel is on the right after about 9 KM. The road is a bit hairy, just take it slow and I would not like to try it in the dark unless I knew it.
The food was very good, 3 course meal with nice Spanish side salad. I had some nice pork with veg and fries and my wife had a nice curry. Very good value for money. The hotel also has entertainment on a weekends with an English guy called Bill who does a disco and there is a pool, so well worth taking swimming gear to cool down after the quads.
In the winter months when it is cooler there are organised walks in the Espuna and I will certainly be going on those as it is a stunning part of Spain. Brilliant.

when you have seen Totana carry on through following sierra espuna signs up to aledo stop at la santa on the way.
great sights to see (stop road side for the overhanging lemons, great in the vodka and coke)

We went to Aledo at the weekend too, a lovely sleepy little village with fantastic views, would definitely recommend it!
Directs from fozzer are spot on, don;' panic when you are going through Totana, yes the streets really are tiny and you are going the right way!
