I have just received an e-mail from my solicitor regarding my ibi tax and wealth tax.  They want to charge us 200 euros to deal with these on our behalf.  However I understand from previous threads that the local council will bill us for the IBI tax and then we can pay it locally, and also that the wealth tax has been withdrawn.  Please can anyone give us some advice as 200 euros seems a lot to part with.

Hi Ruth

We met with our solicitor back in February she explained you have to pay annual coucil tax which we have just paid at 77 .98 euros.

Income tax on renting if you rent they can check this by your electric & water meters as they are tapped into them this tax is at 24%.

You have to pay an annual income tax which we have just had ours for 214 euros for 2008 considering we completed at the end of July last year and only really moved in and started to use electric from October  I think it is steep. (we are not resident)

You also pay a fee to your solicitor to notify you when these taxes are due as I believe the spanish are very good at not letting you know these things and you could end up with an heavy fine.

If anyone has any further information or I have advised wrong please correct me.

Hi Trish, sounds like you are on the right track,

extract from contract re company I use  I can e mail all forms if interested  send e mail to affairsinorderspain@hotmail.com

interesting about them tracking water and elec use!!  big brother eh!!

Are you saying then that I am doing the right thing in going through the solicitor to do it, asI understand the deadline for payment is 30th June and I understand they can impose high fines.

It is your choice who you choose, just giving you an idea of someone else's charges. I understand if tax not paid then it accumulates with penalties and a charge is placed on the property creating even bigger debt if you sell in the future. There are alternatives which can take you out of Spanish tax system . It would take a more in depth discussion . Call me before you come over.

Hello again

Had another e-mail from the solicitor and the 200 euro charge is their admin charge for srting out the wealth tax,  They also want another 150 euros for the IBI tax admin.  We are out at the end of the July so could go to the town hall ourselves, however the solicitor seems to imply that we will be subject to heavy fines if we do not do it by the end of June?

Sorry to keep asking for help, but I am feeling frustrated and confused now - I don'y know what to do for the best.

I have tried to put local tax form on pictures with fax number for you to send, hope it prints out , otherwise e mails to  affairsinorderspain@hotmail.com

Local tax office gave me form and fax number and suggested this way.  I left notes on in English as form is in Spanish , I think Phil has hidden talents after seeing his comments in Spanish on Condado de Alhama facebook. mind you Jackie - Scapa did as well so what is the secret - don;t say babel fish please tell me some other magic way of doing translations

 my solicitors, based in La zenia, Torreviecha have completed my 210 national tax form.......I've owned the place since August last year and the tax was 8 euros..........they charged 137 euros for doing it........and I've got to deal with the local council tax myself.

I expect there'll be a local town hall tax demand in my post box when i come back......so it's Murcia tax..........I'm not in Condado but down the road near Sucina

surely I won't have to negotiate some town hall in away up in Murcia to pay this

local tax can be sorted at Al Kasar office. Who ever owned property July would have had tax demand. Suggest you go to office when next over. 210 form. - www.spanishtaxforms.co.uk. about 25 quid .

We used spanish tax form this year, brilliant, one phone call a few details and completed and paid, the forms were sent back to me through the post and Done! I could have filled the details in online but preferred to speak directly to someone.
Cheaper and easier than with an expensive solicitor which is how we've done it in the past.

Hi

We bought our apartment off plan and completed in 2008, if you only use the property yourself and don't rent it out all you have to pay is the annual local council tax (IBI) and non residents tax.  We paid the first couple of years for these through our solicitor but it is so easy to do this yourself wished we had known sooner.  There is a council office onsite now you can go in and pay yourself and you can complete a form so that it automatically comes out of your account in June every year - if you contact ML they will give you telephone/emails details. We now also use Spanish Tax Forms for our non residents tax (due annually 31st Dcember) they ask you appropriate questions then do all the work for you and it won't cost you anything like using a solicitor would. Hope that helps
