We are thinking of buying a couple of bikes- not particularly to take off site for any off road stuff. For nipping back and forth from the supermarket and even for visiting The Clover or a restaurant up at Al Kasar, or a cruise around the resort. We were wondering if anyone has had any bargains although we are not necessarily looking for a 'cheap as chips' variety or top of the range just somewhere in between. Probably will want a basket or carrier for one of them too. Saw various models in the sports store up by IKEA and also in several supermakets but if anyone can give us a pointer to somehwere they recommend we'd go and have a look next week when over to furnish. Not been bike people before, should have transport big enough to transport them then.

We got ours from Decathlon near Ikea, good selection and built to last, bit of a nightmare getting in the car but managed in the end, well worth buying bikes as me and my lad love cycling around the resort.

Thanks Dan, this will be where we have looked and I felt it was likely to be a good place to purchase. We have a Berlingo booked so hopefully there would be enough room-provided my partner doesnt try to buy all of IKEA, Primark and Leroy Merlin on the same trip!!

Hi Tony

They also have a very good supply in both the large Supermarkets by IKEA - but I would definately recommend Decathlon.  I got 2 bikes from the Cartegena branch and had a problem with one - returned it to the Murcia branch (as more convenient), and they were very helpful (even with my poor Spanish), and did the repairs on the premises under guarantee - don't think you will get that from the supermarkets etc.

Anyone have any ideas about folding bikes?  For storage purposes it would be good to be able to keep them in the Ottoman beds.

Anyone seen any bargains for sale in Spain?

Thank you.

Ali,

Where do you store them? We've thought about getting bikes, but we don't have a lot of storage space in the penthouses.

We got the folding ones from Carrefour for 119 €. They have 6 gears and the wheels are bigger than the one I've seen in the UK so easy to steer. They both fit easily in the small alcove under the stairs in th 2 bed when folded up or in the car boot if you want to take them out. Great for space saving.

June was convinced that my one was easier to pedal than hers cos she couldn't keep up, as posted by Ant, so we swapped for one ride and it was just the same. Still she is only a girl lol.

Just read my earlier msg again and it reads as though I had already been on the gin!

But am now considering the foldy bikes- even if we dont put them in bed bases when we are not there they can go in a corner of a bedroom and on the Jardine terrace when we are in residence- plus they could go with us on a day trip. Has possibilities, just have to check prices otherwise the Lorca Eroski ones sound a very good price.

Is there room just outside the front doors in the Penthouse apartments to store them when you're in residence- suppose it might be possible if you have an end apartment? Or do you lock them in a corner of the car parking spaces? Can the roof be used? Never went up there to view so not sure what the space is broken up like- though not advocating it as a bike store. Plus can you get them i the lifts?

Hi Tony,

The roof is certainly an option. It's a sort of communal space that houses the air con units and washing lines. We would have to get  a storage box or something and I don't think there's anywhere to secure it. Space would be tight in the penthouse apartments, even with foldy bikes!

Hi Cherrie,

When we are not in residence(just watch out for the flag) we store them in the back bedroom and when over we padlock them all  together and store them on the balcony in front of our apartment door, where the wall is set back slightly and they don't block the passageway.

we got our mountain bicycles in cartegana at toys r us (espacio mediteranio) for 79e. leroy merlin and carrefour etc. are also there. we found them very useful and great fun during our stay in august. one thing, if i may throw it into the suggestion box  or if someone has a garden presidents ear is if it would be possible to erect a bike stand maybe at either end of each garden to stand your bikes while you are in residence as we had to lay them on the grass in our garden in betweeb using them as was the case with other cyclists. not very safe, not a pretty site and, not good for the bikes when the garden sprinklers came on.

regards

I like the bike stand idea. Even if they just took  away small square of grass in each corner of each Jardin that would be very useful. Although I imagine if you had to sit on your terrace to look at a bike stand it wouldnt be popular.

there are two extra car parking  spaces at either end of each garden car park, not numbered. these would be ideal for bike stands

Hi All,

Used my inexpensive bike when out in October and I now know why it was so cheap, cause my backside is still hurting as the seat is one of the most uncomfortable bike seats I have ever had the displeasure to sit on.  Could anyone please recommend a good gel seat cover to protect my LITTLE posterior(no comments please) from wear & tear.

Thanks in advance

Ali

Keep persevering Ali, you will get used to a 'hard one' after a while .

Well, you did invite comments !!

Why don't you pick a cover up at home and just pop it in your hand baggage - plenty cycle  shops do what you are looking for.

Regards.

Very Funny Hunny,

The come backs on your comments cannot be published and I would be banned for life if I were to type one.  Needless to say when going 'Up & Down' dale the seat is very uncomfortable.

Yes I was planning on doing so, buying here and taking it over but there are so many on the market and so many varying degrees of cost that I wanted recommendations, don't really want to buy an expensive one and then find that a cheap one does the same job.

Trying to keep this clean
