Hi all,
reading through this thread, and googling it endlessly on google (obviously), I am after some kind of official course review. Have heard reports that they say its the best one yet, but for advertising purposes it would be nice to get some kind of written quote or link to a website.
Our apartment was rented out for this week, with our renters playing in the tournament on the 8th, of which us owners on the resort knew nothing in advance. Am I missing something?? Advice please!
Cheers,
Jo & Aaron,
Jardine 9

A Danish guy shot 61 during the first round. I can`t believe that was from the tiger tees. In that case he must have been very accurate with his 4-iron approach shots..

It is true....61 from an amateur. He had a 2 on the par 4 - 5th and the par 5 - 13th??? Not trying to worry you lesser mortals but someone shot a 10 on the par 5 - 4th. There's a light a the end of the tunnel Barry.
In case anyones interested I got this info from the Hi5 tournament web site where they have all the scores, men, seniors, ladies listed

Quoted from Hi5 Tour website:
A new course record at Nicklaus´ latest masterpiece in Europe
Normally golfers would be happy with an albatross in golf, the “rare bird” most golfers never get to see, however this type of bird was one of many as young amateur Lasse Sonne Nielsen from Denmark today. Lasse holed a 6 iron into the par 5 13th hole for a 2 and that seemed to kick start his day which inlcuded 6 birdies and another holed second shot but this time into the 5th (his back nine) for an eagle. His 61 is his personal best and what a course to do it on. Condado de Alhama a signature course from the great Jack Nicklaus officially had its first professional event today. With his 61 Nielsen now enjoys a 7 shot margin over Stephen Grant from Ireland.

An update to my earlier post below i have spoken with PW Golf and the Offer for 1 course membership Single or Family must be taken up before 31st Dec 09? When you sign upo you can then dictate which course andwhen you want to start your membership?
Dont give you much time do they?
They also stated course may open end Dec or Early Jan but like all other PW employees would not commit?
If course is good enough for a high profile competition then surely they could open it?
I mailed the Golf shop about dates of Annual Membership, is it 1st Jan - 231st Dec etc and here is reply
Following your questions the membership is for 1 year from signing contract. You have to pay directly in the shop the full amount. And the payment you can do in one of our Pro-shop (Hacienda Riquelme, La Torre, Mar Menor, El Valle).

I looked at all scores from the first round and the scoring average was 75.91 across the 49 scores in, so even with the good weather no wind and a fantastic 61 which included the 3 at the par5 and the 2 at the par4....it still played tough

Hi all,
we have a tournament player renting our apartment at the moment, as soon as they are back in the country, I'll ask him for a few quotes about the course!
Thanks Ant & Andi for your reply.

Just to point out and not to lessen the impressiveness of the scoring but the 61 was not scored off the back tees. I watched them tee off 6 holes and only one of them (the 5th) were they off the back.
The "senior" who won at HdR last week currently leads the seniors at CdA. He is 47 but to be honest looks 27......where am i going wrong. Even the tournament organisers chuckled when they are saw our faces. They can't believe it either.

Just looked at the list of players this week and i can assure anyone they are some very good players there!
Lloyd Saltman for one won the silver medal at the British open a couple of years ago as leading amateur.
Also has a question and answer section on his web site so have asked him how the course played hopefully he will have time to answer!

Hi Phil,
Thank you about what course the pros played. 61 off the "white" markers seems too good for a first outing so this cannot be regarded as a course record. Hopefully if we ever get a PGA tourament we will get a proper record Dont get me wrong, 61 is still a great score off any markers and most of us would give our right or left arms to get a "net" score like that. Hopefully I would still like to play off the back markers, just to see if I could break a 100.

I think it would have been too tough for the some of the field off the whites. It was a bit galling to stand and watch when my clubs were in the apartment. I did ask if i could sneak on after the last group but was met with stony silence...... so i took that as a no. Still went round Le Torre instead. Dodgy front 9 but back in 40 so not too bad.

Don't understand why it wouldn't have been the back tees?
The rulles of play state :
According to the card, the whites are the longest

Hi cuz
I watched for hours every day and all men played from the back tees on every hole I saw. Seniors and ladies played from our tees.with yellow and blu on same tee.
I can assure you that 61 was genuine, most pros hit all par 5´s in 2. It shows the next best score in the mens was 68 over 3 days.
Just seen on spanish news Sebastian Garcia did a 58 in the spanish PGA at La Torre yesterday which as far as I know is a world record.

Aaaaah this would explain why I saw different people going off different tees then. I wasn't aware of the differences for men/women/seniors. Apologies for the misleading comments. What a fantastic score then!!! Mind you the Albatross would help!

barry just googled this.
Sebastian Garcia Grout, the Spanish professional golfer, has equalled the world record for an official competition after carding a round of 58, 13 under par.
Grout achieved the result yesterday, during the opening day of the four-day Spanish Championship of Professional golfers at a par 71 course Murcia in south-eastern Spain.
According to the federation, it is the lowest score ever recorded in an official competition. Japan's Shigeki Maruyama also achieved a score of 58 in 2000 but at a qualification course for the US Open.
According to the Guinness Book of Records, Jason Bohn of the US scored 58 in at the Bayer Championship in Canada also at a par 71 course.
The lowest score ever recorded at a PGA championship was a 59, by Al Geiberger in 1971, Chip Beck in 1991 and David Duval in 1999 but at par 72 courses.
