I've posted up 2 sets of pics. The first is our apartment, which hopefully shows the quality of the furnishings we got from Moira in Superior Interiors. We are in the South Island, Menta apartments. We love the layout of the apartment, and we have a lovely view over the golf course, with the 6th - index 1 - right in front of us. We get the sun all day long on the balcony which helps.
The second set are more or less the golf course. I gave a review of the course last week so I won't repeat it all again.
We loved it, and the area. However currently it is very quiet. Brian in Migel's is doing his best to get a bitof spirit going, and we had a nice barbecue there.
The town is a nice sleepy town. Leons is a more than adequate supermercado and has pretty much everything you'd need, other than fresh milk it seems, and opens most days till 9.00PM. Theyt are shut sunday and for the siesta. Also a good selection of wine, cava, beer etc, as well as a lot of spirits and whiskey e.g. johhny walker, beefeaters etc, which are a lot cheaper than home.
There are a few restaurants in the town, Kimas and Pepinas, but the smoking ban doesn't apply there and as we have 2 kids we didn't go in.
There are quite a few decent restaurants close enough by. In Banos y Mendigo there is a hotel that does fairly authentic tapas and other food. Although very much a local Spanish restaurant, they had an English version of the menu and it was very nice. As with all local restaurants they make a fuss of kids.
There are a few very decent restaurants near La torre, about 15 minutes drive away. The Indian restaurant did an Indian as nice as I've ever had. There is a Chinese restaurant, a Sports bar which does your Sunday lunch type food, and the Alhambra Palace is really nice - doing a mix of Indian and more "normal" food as well. La Torre has a very good Tapas bar as well.
Fuente Alamo is a big town about about 10-15 mins past Corvera and that has a lot of restaurants too. In appearance it is not too different to Los Alcazares, except not beside the sea.
Murcia city is really beautiful and the centre (around the cathedral area) is about 15 minutes drive away. Again there a lot of restaurants and shops there - like in any big city. About 20 mins drive from Corvera is the Nueva Condiminia shopping centre (right beside the football stadium) which is a big modern complex with loads of shops, and a big food area doing a big mix of mainly lunch type food (including a McDonalds when the kids are in a fussy mood). We didn't go into the El Corté Ingles or Thades centres but they are very close by.
Cartegena is about 20 odd minutes drive away as well. It is a big historic city, and around the harbour it is full of shops and restaurants with magnificent views of the old city or the harbour. I'm a big fan of Cartegena.
The resort it self is coming on albeit slowly. The pool area around the Mentas is very nice, although some of the grass needs to grow. However the pool itself was not usable as the pump had broken. Anyone going over soon should ensure with Corvera that they see to this as the weather was starting to heat up as we were leaving. The kids play areas are very good, and also enclosed which is a good feature. There are a few exercise areas around too which we used for the craic. There are tennis courts and 7-a-side football pitch beside Migels, which were getting a bit of use when we were there. We also went to the Equestrian Centre which looks like they are putting in a barbecue type bar as well.
We had a drive to the airport. It is about 3 minutes from the town. There was no work going on when we were there, although it was a sunday.
We had a trip to Roda as well for lunch one of the days. Roda is really starting to come along, and hopefully ours will follow. The golf course really is the centre point to all this as it brings in lots of people creating a really good atmosphere. The same day (tuesday) we went to the market is Los Alcazares which is well worth a trip.
We're back in July, where we have been warned the weather can get very hot.
