Learning Spanish

I am thinking of buying the Rosetta Stone learning Spanish,for sale via groupon for £149 and I was wondering if anyone has tried it or is their any other options that people have thought were better.Pat

Hi Pat, I know you visit CdA regular and there are a group of novices attempting to learn the language from a Spanish resident. Each Thurs we meet at Clover, 10am for two hours.
Because we are total beginners we swap ideas between us on what we think may help us along. One of these ideas is logging onto Youtube and searching for "Childrens Spanish", this may give you some basics to start you off. You can select videos from various age groups, I am on 0-5 at moment!!!!
I would try this first before stumping up cash for DVDs etc.
The most difficult thing, apart from the language, is dedicating time to learning.
I would test your dedication before buying.

I went to night school, 2 hours per week 7-9pm on a Wednesday night. Had a great teacher and learned lots.

After a hard days work, I didnt always feel like attending the classes, but once i was there I had fun and the 2 hours went quickly.

I cant remember what I paid but it was around £100 for a 12 week course. Tried learning from CD's etc, but you cant beat having a real Spanish lady to question when you get stuck.

Even at £149, it's quite expensive Pat. I agree with the others, better looking elsewhere, IMO.

There are plenty of free websites - BBC for one. These can give you a good start, before you look elsewhere,

Thanks for all the replies,Davie it is good to hear there is Spanish classes in the Clover and I may join you next time I'm over.One of my worries was spending money on c.ds and not giving it the time required.Pat

Haha Dave, my spanish is not that good, but thankfully Google helped me.

I did not run for president this year, I have been busy trying to obtain funding for Paramount Bolton, hopefully building will commence in February and thenI can start my presidentail campain.

Maybe I can borrow a mini bus and fit it wil a PA syetem, I can then cruise the mean streets of Condado drumming up support and votes! Although I am fearful that people will recognise me and  I may get lynched by the Half Full Brigade (if they are still going). it could also compromise my position within the witness protection program.

I would highly recommend the Pimsleur Spanish language course.  It's audio.  Four levels of 30 lessons, each lasting about 27 minutes.  Then there's an extra level of 10 lessons.  Michael Thomas spanish cds are great for teaching verbs and their different tenses.  I actually started off with the Michael Thomas course.  Both these courses I got off ebay and didn't pay too much for them. I've found it quite easy to fit in the time as I listen in the car when I drive to and from work every day and also while doing my ironing.  Good luck !

I use coffee break spanish I got it on iTunes it is a series of podcasts I have only just began learning and find them good
