Hi all

Just been in touch with another acquaintance based at Roda.  He says that  and I quote"Only very recently has the figure of 10 euros return been quoted " (before, he said they were apparently saying there would be a nominal charge for beach club transfers.  And as you know we and others were led to believe no charge!).

He went on to say that he is " Not sure where the 100 capacity comes from as they’re currently saying the beach club will be part open end of this month with an initial capacity of 100-150 and an eventual capacity of around 200-250."

So apologies if I only got half the story about capacity right in my earlier postings, but it would see that the figure does start at 100 and will eventually up to a max capacity of 250.  This is more realistic.

However, I do think Roda Golf should have published a full statement and emailed it to all customers as appropriate and issued a newsletter posted to all owners telling them exactly what was going on instead of having to guess and speculate.

Sandra

Lets get this straight,

I am based in Roda, went to the Beach Club the other day. It is impressive. Lovely pool and building (old building, UFO shape!it reminds me of Doctor Who) but only 30 % is in use (provisional facility). Did not like the beach though.

It costed me to get there:

€8 return (sorry Sandra you are misinforming..) and the had to pay a taxi from the port (€around €10)

Also talked to Rodrigo and told me there is a reservation system, calling to +34 968173654 (there are some flyers you can ask for in customer services) or by email (his email or the beach club one)

Hope it helps

I also recommend to visit the Roda Nights at the Club House. They are fantastic and a great atmosphere! Lovely cocktails and service. (don´t go for the daiquiri though, i didnt like it)

Hi

Just to make it clear - I am not misinforming - only repeating what Rodrigo emailed to Roda in his email (copied on this forum).  Transfers to beach club will be 10Euros - ferry from santiago and then minibus to Club.  So it is Roda Golf who are misinforming.

Also, I understand that the original villa being used as the Beach Club was built for the Spanish Foreign Minister in the 1970's - hence its surreal appearance.  Perhaps you could ask Rodgrigo (rcarrica@rodagolf.com) if it is Roda's intention to upgrade the beach at the Club with fine sand etc.

Also just read your post again - did you not book as per rcarrica's instructions in his email to Roda - should have been a Roda minibus to take you there.  Apparently and allegedely outbound is at 10 am and return at 7 pm - but not sure if this is true either!

Regards

SAdnra

You are right. However they left the property a while ago.

I also talked to the guys here at Roda, and it is forbidden to touch, move reshape, add or do anything with the coastal line/beach. Not even clean it (the council does it every week or so) It is ILLEGAL

I believe that if there is something in writing from Roda it has to be true. When I rang I was clearly informed that the ferry times used together with the minibus are at 10 am and 7 pm (return). I asked whether I can get there by myself, they said "yes, but booking in advance, without any entrance fee". So they are charging only for transport. It took me 45/60minutes to get there by car. Far much better going by ferry though (my opinion)

And when I wrote "misinforming", I was refering to your wrong information about the ferry pricing (you wrote somewhere on this post €4 RETURN, and this is not true. The ferry costs €4 for a SINGLE trup, making €8 for a return trip) It is very clear on the email that the cost of transport Roda charges is €10,. I assume the €2 difference is to cover the cost of the minibus + the coordinator on the boat (sounds cheap to me)

Hope this clarifies everything.

I am on the continental side of the English Channell, so if you need some accurate and concise information, just ask. I am here to help

Hi

Well, I did expect hte property to be empty when they started the refurbishment programme and at least it was when we inspected it 2 years ago!!

I think that we are getting crossed wires.  The whole point of the discussion about this Beach Club was that my property was sold to me with assurances by the agents (and at the time we had to assume that this included Roda Golf as well) that the Beach Club would be free to owners and their guests and that transport from the resort to the beach club would be provided free of charge.

We now find we have to make our own way to Santiago - which in itself is not great deal - but the parking issue is! because as you are probably aware, it is not the easiest place in the world to park.  So, if you take a taxi there from the resort to avoid the parking issue, then that is an additional 10 euros each way possibly.  And then fork out 10 euros per head to get to the other side of the Mar Menor and hence the BEach Club. Now for a family of 4 a couple or 3 times during a holiday adds up to a tidy sum in anyone's book.

Whether it costs 4 euros one way or 8 euros return is not the argument - the argument is that this was not the basis on which we bought the property and paid a premium for because of the beach club facility.  And I am not the only owner who feels like this.  Whether or not I live permanently on site doesn't really matter, because it will still cost 10 euros to get there and back!

I understand that Polaris have copied the concept and that alledgedly they DO NOT CHARGE for transfers from their 5 or 6 resorts to their facility.  Could someone else please confirm whether or not this is the case.

I hope you can now understand why this matter is causing some agitation.  I also realise that apart from not using the facility there is probably nothing that can be done about this charge and the whole matter is just academic.

Lucky you living on site - its a great resort.

Sandra

I will try to find out what Polaris do.

I feel like a fish from another tank, as I was told by the in house sales agent that prices would be around €15-20 per head, but CLEARLY NOT KNOWING WHAT HE WAS TALKING ABOUT. He said that, but he could have said "for free" or €100.

If you think about this cold minded, the Beach Club will never be free: You will either pay a fee for the day (this year €10) or you will pay the maintenance costs through the community expenses.

See you all and good luck!

Hello Ace

i am a little confused regarding  your latest information regarding polaris beach club etc on the very impressed with roda thread, surley this is not the thread for such imformation, the idea of having seperate and individual threads is to give as much clear and accurate information and also to request information regard the thread title, i feel that your latest thread is totally misplaced.

I have just received the reply below re my questions regarding the Beach Club!

From-

Guillermo Salvatori

Food & Beverage & Beach Club Operations Manager

De Vere at Roda

I am sorry you have had cause to contact us – however thank you for taking the time and trouble to let us know.

It may be useful if I begin by clarifying that in accordance with the management agreement with Roda Golf & Beach Resort we have the responsibility for the operational management of the Beach Club. These responsibilities also extend to the golf facilities and in the future to the Hotel.  I explain this because some policy decisions are taken by Calidona / Roda Golf & Beach Resort management in their position as proprietors of the facilities.

I have taken the opportunity to contact Calidona on your behalf and based on their responses I can reply as follows:

  • The fee of €10 per person is to cover transportation costs (ferry return + mini bus service). The charge does not include an element of profit. Transfer from Roda to Santiago de la Ribera has not been included as this would increase the transportation fee.

  • It has not been communicated nor included in any official advertising of Roda Golf & Beach Resort that transportation to the Beach Club would be free of charge. If this has been quoted by other agents, it has been done so irresponsibly and without a clear understanding of the situation. We are sincerely sorry if this has been the case.

  • For this year the facilities at the Beach Club are provisional due to the delay of official licences and the granting of building permissions. This was disappointing and unfortunately beyond the control of Roda Golf & Beach Resort. From next year the facility will be completed and enjoyed by the anticipated volume of users. This in turn will create more transport opportunities including the possibility of adding the transfer from Roda to Stgo. de la Ribera.

Once again I am sorry you have had cause to write and I hope the above information is useful.  If you require further information then please contact the Roda Golf & Beach Resort Customer Services’ office or call Sonia Ros -sros@rodagolf.com- (or Ana Escribano during her absence) on +34 968 173

Hi all

I got exactly the same email last night.    So looks like they have sorted out one all embracing reply to everyone's complaints.

Also, I have just found some Roda marketing material from some ago and it states that transfers to the Beach Club will be undertaken "near to the Resort".  Now, I really cannot see how they can say Santiago is "near" to Roda.

Really not sure what else we can now do as that would seem to be that as far as transfers are concerned.  Looks like we may have come to the end of the Road (or the La Manga strip!!) on this one.

Sandra
