Electricity/Water Meters

Hi everyone, Firstly  - Merry Xmas and all the best for the incoming year,-

Has there been any progress on the meters being connected up ? And when are we likely to start getting electricity and water bills ??,

The youth centre building - has there been much progress on this of late ? anyone got pics of the area as it surrently is ? Last time I was over was October.

Hi Russell, I have just spoken to Helder just now.  Taray have the Habitacion Licence, the electricity meters are getting put in today so there will be no electricity at all this morning and the water meters are getting put in around about middle of January.  Hope this is helpful.

I think people get used to hot weather and then find 16c to be cold  it was fine for us when we were over. It was cold at night. Have a great xmas in spain everyone

Hi All,

Merry Christmas and hope to see you at New Year. We are flying over on the 29th for a week and hope to catch up with a few of you then.

Is the electricity and water connected yet and do they have to come into your house to turn the electric on? We are only asking because after the performance we had when we were out in October with the electricity (some of you may remember who were there at the time) we've got visions of arriving at 10pm at night to find no electric on.

Also very interested to see the photos of the community centre. It's very big isn't it?  Anybody got any thoughts?

Hi Vincent/Brona, yes we are now on our own meters and yes they should have returned the final key to you.  Water meters are supposed to be going in mid January and, hopefully, you will know that Taray have arranged a meeting at the civic centre to officially "handover" to the community on 24 January.  Also as far as I am led to believe Taray are also taking 170e out of our bank accounts now to pay for the electricity meters - so watch out for this withdrawal from your account.  that means we have paid them 300e in the beginning and now 170e.  I have a funny feeling we might be asked to pay 170e again for the water meter!  hope you all had a good Christmas and looking forward to bringing in 2008!

thanks for the information i have put another thread on the site about the meeting on the 24th. you would think that Taray would have informed us that they want us to pay for the meters - I did not think they could just take money from our accounts without our permission.

we are over next week from monday 7th january to sat 12th - hopefully we might manage to call round - did call in december but you were not in did see your son in the village driving your peugeot - he looked like he remembered me but could not think from where.

Some information that I thought you might find useful

We have had 170 euro's taken from our account over the last few days (which has caused me hugh problems) for I can only think is for the connection to the electricity meter, this on top of the 300 euro's I paid Taray only 6 weeks ago for connection to electricity and I haven't even spent one night under my Spanish roof yet.  

I for one wont let this spoil my Spanish experience as I have learned to expect everything and anything in Spain and I quiet like it but I believe I have been conned/cheated again by Taray and I will be taking it up with them when next over there.

We are just back from our house and have also just had the money debited from our account by Iberdrola - it is a connection charge.  We, too, paid the 300 euros to Taray although that was in November 2006.  I thought it was for electricity and water connection but our lawyer told us that the 300 euros was for water connection only.  There seems to be differing views about what the 300 euros was for.  We did try to speak to someone at Taray about this and a number of other things but the office was closed.  Our lawyer said that they should provide us with a bill for the (water) connection charge and the water used since we moved in (and refund any difference).  We'll give it a try although I'm not too hopeful.  The Spaniards definitely do things differently, but it is worth the hassle.  We love our house and I'm sure you will too.

Hi Pete, I can understand why you are angry.  Back in Britain - nobody, and I mean, nobody, takes any money out of  your account without first advising you of when and why.  this doesn't seem to apply over here but  a couple of things I must mention.  Firstly, when we signed at the Notary everyone that I have met here said you must have paid 300 euors for your water and electricity but we hadn't.  Nobody when the appt was made to go to the notary said we had to take any money.  4 weeks ago i got a frantic call from my solicitor saying I had to get to Tarays'offices before 2pm that day witb 300e as they were putting the electricity meters in and if I hadn't paid I would be cut off! Simple as that so I had to jump in my car, get to the bank and to their offices before 2pm.  Ok don't have aproblem with that really but to be informed they had taken 170e out of our account without so much as a telephone call, e-mail, letter or any other form of communication, was ridiculous.Your starting argument might be that you have never used the house, never used the builders' electricity or water so 300e might be a bit steep.  Don't let it go - argue with them.  I think a lot of the problems over  here is that the builders do things, nobody argues so they think everything is ok.  From our part, and it probably sounds very selfish, but it is as it happened. we have been on builders' water and electricity since October 2006 so we really do not have a point to argue.  My advice is not to let this go -you should have been warned (a) by the builders) (b) by your solicitors and (c) certainly at the notaries on signing.

Thank you for both your replies over this matter, what fun and games the Spanish are having with us.

From what I have read on this forum over months & months is that you have to take 300 euro's to the notary when you sign but this is where I feel I've been conned as we had an URGENT message though our solicitor the week before we went to the notary that we had to pay the money at once to Taray and they would'nt wait, so we paid it, so my guess is that they knew the 170 euro meter charge was coming in a few weeks so had to get there 300 euro's.

I'm coming over on the 30th January and I will be visiting Taray's office the following morning to argue my case as like you have said, I've not touch a drop of water in my house and the only electricity that has been used was by the Spainish cleaner who is employed by TARAY, and then it's off to the bank for some explanations from them.

One thing is for certain, I will keep a smile on my face and wont get stressed out about it as I have a lovely house in a lovely country and cant wait to start enjoying it.

I am heading out tomorrow morning for 5 days. i will also be visiting my bank to ask why the paid money from my account without my permission. They took 170 euros this time  what is to stop them going back and taking 1700 euros? I have already e-mailed my solicitor and estate agent asking where the builder got my bank details from.

as you say  staying calm is the secret.

I spoke to my solicitor and was informed that when we signed to give permission for the electric and water companies to set up direct debits on our accounts this information was passed to the companies. the electric company took the 170.66 euros for installation of the electric meters. I went to the post office and there is a letter from Iberdrola - electric company infoming us of the charge. People need to go to the post office and check their mail as there is a large bundle of mail sitting there and i was only looking at Jose Sanchez lozano.

the post office is on the main street - Avda. de la libertad  same street as the garage  go past garage and traffic lights and past supermarket  post office is on left hand side of road once you pass shops
