I thought I would just change the thread title.

We would like to add our support for Colin taking up the challenge as president of our residents' association.  Don and I are also among those who own a house in Torre Alcantara but do not live there permanently.  The consequence of not being permanent residents is that we will occasionally miss out on important events and notifications.  I am sure that notification of the residents' meeting complied with legal requirements - notices were posted all around the development.  A similar situation related to the charges from Iberdrola:  we all completed direct debits when we signed the title deeds etc at the notary and we were all notified in advance of the amount we were going to be charged.  The notice was, of course, delivered to our Spanish addresses so would not have been seen by people not living there.  In the same way, non-residents would not have seen the notices for the residents' meeting.  Don and I happened to be there the week after Christmas, so we knew about the meeting.  We even picked up a proxy form but didn't get around to completing it since we have been busy at work .  To be honest, though, I wasn't too worried about not submitting the proxy form since I felt confident that the people who have chosen to live in Torre Alcantara would have the best interests of the community at heart.  I think that it is only right that they should have a greater say in the running of the development.  Colin has also given an undertaking to keep people informed in future so I am sure that everyone can work together to agree a sensible set of rules which will be in all our interests.

As we are probably all aware, things don't happen in Spain the same way as they do in the UK.  It's a learning process for all of us.  As far as we're concerned, it's worth the trouble since the rewards are high.

Don and Martha
