I have just completed on my apartment and am looking to come over quite soon. When there I wish to buy a TV, bedside lights, towls, sofa throw, bathmats, shower cutains and rail. Ect Ect

Does anyone have a list of shops they have found helpful, selling quality goods at reasonable prices. Or where is the nearest shopping centre where I can drive to.

ENGLISH PILLOWS – ‘The English Bedlinen Store’ Mojocar (opposite Irish Bar just after last roundabout.

BEDLINEN – Textiles Hoga, in Vera round corner from BBVA Bank nr Notario’s office.

HARDWARE. DIY, TVs – shop called Lopez in Mojocar, best prices. Drive along coast road from Garrucha with sea on left, past the Parque Commercial in Mojocaar which is at the roundabout where you would turn to get to Mojocar Pueblo (village) do not turn off the coast road, Ferreteria Lopez is on your right.. about ½ mile or so on right, park on the opposite side of the road on the beach.

SHOWER DOORS – Big store in Vera on right up dual carriageway. Glass 800 euros. This is top of the range ,they are others wil have cheaper ,less good quality ones.

SHOWER AND BATH SCREENS – Terrapilar, based on the El Real Industrial Estate at Antas, right by the motorway junction (really easy to find) Fantastic quality, fitted by a very experienced guy – took a week, ordered out of catalogue but very pleased.

SHOWER SCREENS: the bathroom and tile shop on the new roundabout up from Zurgena and turn left towards el Palaces and le Conception, they look good.

FURNITURE – Lots of new furniture stores on the ‘Poligino Industrial Estate in Antas, tight by motorway exit for Antas & Vera. Spanish shops cheaper and will deliver as a matter of course.

FURNITURE – Furniture Mart just by the motorway at the Vera/Antas exit. Company that makes it is UK based.

Eg Dining table 220 euro, 2 seater leather setee 1000euro.

CARREFOUR STORE – in Almeria on the Parque Mediterraneo, also on that site very good builders merchant (all you would get in B & Q) good quality inexpensive light fittings etc., Also opposite in the same place is a shop called Media Market, a massive electrical shop with a great selection of TVs & DVDs  ) a TV bought there was twice as much in Mojocar.   Also a Carrefour near Ikea in Murcia.

FURNITURE – suppliers to Keymare – Eco Mueble, Paseo de los Gallardos 10

Los Gallardos tel: 950 469 504 open 10 til 2 and 5 til 8.

REAL SERVICES – on Mojocar Playa  tel 950 475 779, may fit shutters

Ikea: in Murcia, it is behind the Thader shopping centre which you can

See from the A7-E15 motorway. takes about 75 mins, quite a straight run on the new motorway. I using credit card need additional ID. Need to check goods before taking home as some have been damaged, scratched etc., a long way to take things back. They have big bins for the packaging. Avoid the restaurant.

There is a DIY store down the road similar to B & Q, also other stores in the vicinity which resemble Comet, Curry’s  if you are looking for electrical goods all items far cheaper than the local shop Lopez. Several Supermarkets very close, reasonably prices and sell most things you will find in UK supermarkets.

Furniture : Homes and  Beyond in Garrucha, models in showrooms and lots of catalogues and books of materials.

Supermarkets: - Intermarch – on the Garrucha Rd into Vera – big & comprehensive.Mercadon – on Mojacar Playa, behind the Parque Commerciale – excellent.

Suyper Turre in Turre (in the main shopping street) small but fairly comprehensive.

Mr UK on the Playa (for English products)

Hi Lee,

There are numerous local shops all offering good quality goods, some at reasonable prices, but some make the most of your limited time and local knowledge and charge quite a lot for goods. However, having been here now for over 8 months, I can only suggest a trip to Carrefour in either Murcia or Almeria. The Murcia branch gets my vote as it gives you the opportunity to go to Ikea and the new Thane Shopping Centre.

You will find an abundance of good quality shops within the shopping centre allowing you to give your apartment your own personal touch.........buying locally may be convenient, but sometimes your apartment ends up looking like everyone else's..........fine, but if you intend to rent out, you need to personalise your casa so that it stands out from the crowd! There is a particularly good electrical superstore within Thane (rather like our Curry's/Comet) with helpful staff and really competitive prices.

Ikea......well, doesn't everyone know Ikea? Good quality homewares and some nice "extras".

Carrefour, good quality bedding, quilts, blankets, towels, crockery, cooking utensils and excellent range of electrical goods. Quite good english-speaking electrical department Manager, which helps if you have to return any items unexpectedly.

Be aware that this is a very long day out and your credit card may take a bashing................but you can't fail to get a buzz when you see it all in-situ and your place feels like home!!!

Whilst at Ikea, take the opportunity to stock-up on light-bulbs, adaptors, extension cables and scented candles..........you really won't find them cheaper anywhere else!

Happy Shopping!

Lorraine Braid.

Hi Lorraine,

How long does it take to get to the Murcia shopping centre. We did all our shopping at the Cartagena shopping centre but had to pay the toll road cost, 11.50 euros each way, on top of all our purchases.

If we land at Murcia airport we always make a trip to the Cartagena shops, only 10mins from airport, before driving down to Thalassa.

Our next trip, 9 March we land at Almeria, but might fancy a day shopping at Murcia for a change. Not that we need anything else for our apartment, but shopping is always good for me!

Maybe we will meet this trip

Hi Huggy,

If you get on the "old" road (N340) to Murcia (turn right onto signposted slip road at first Antas Industrial Estate roundabout), and keep going until you see the signs for Ikea, it will take you roughly 75 mins.

Saves you the cost of the toll (both ways), and gives you the opportunity to explore Corte Ingles.......well worth a visit with the option to pay for items in either sterling or euros which is in the centre of Murcia.

Hope to see you when you next come over,

Regards to you and yours,

Lorraine.

PS. Check out the pictures on the website of the informal get together at the Wok Buffet, maybe it will help you put faces to names?

I agree with Lorraine.  If you go to Murcia there is also a Leroy Merlin in the centre on the other side of the motorway, and they have a knock-out selection of curtain rails as well as off-the-shelf curtains and fabrics.  They also have lots of well-priced bathroom mirrors and accessories, plus shower and bath screens and oodles of lights and fans.

Also near LM is Zara Home: the best place I have found for cotton bedlinens.  I think there is a Casa there which is a super place for all sorts of kitchen, home and bathroom things, very well priced.  Great place for prettying-up the place with well priced accessories like lights, candle holders etc.  There is also a Casa and Zara Home at the Mediterraneo Centre in Almeria, which is obviously a bit nearer, plus the same two AND a LM in the Gran Plaza at Roquetas.  The obvious advantage of Murcia is that you get IKEA as well and if I were looking for lots of stuff that would be my choice.
