SPANISH GOVERNMENT PROPERTY ROADSHOW - PART 3 ??

The Minister of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation, José Manuel García-Margallo, has once again stated that the solution to the current crisis in Spain can come from abroad.

At a news conference he said that the previous government conducted a propaganda campaign against the 'alleged lack of legal certainty' in connection with the purchase of real estate in Spain.

That campaign has 'damaged the chances of the sale' of property to the foreign population, which makes it necessary to take steps to promote it again. The Association of Promotors and Constructors in Spain (APCE) has requested the Government to support it in attempting to sell 250,000 homes to foreigners.

This Government response beggars belief and only adds to the lack of respect and breakdown of trust.

When will the Spanish Government  recognise the realities that trust was broken after thousands were exposed to all manner of corruption, negligence, lack of legal due diligence, failure to enforce existing law, lack of Banking supervision, administrative incompetence, unregulated building,  political infighting between local and regional authorities,  etc etc.?

Be respectful and honour consumer rights as per the rule of law, enforce the law in a reasonable timeframe, review regulation and disincentives to inhibit malpractice/corruption within the Spanish real estate and Banking industries, and just maybe trust will return.

It is rather easy to believe once you accept the known Spanish, culture, traditions and beliefs of the officials that they are above the law with no independent judiciary.

There have also been many posts on this forum describing the victims as small in number from the happy ex-pats who tell us in many cases to go away and get a life.

The Spanish bureaucracy will never conform, not even in your life time.

As to the warm friendly Spanish people, it is their lack of conformity that ex-pats admire most, isn't it?

Sorry Ads it has to be faced sometime.

Regards

Norman

Cultural differences which you can respect, embrace and admire and learn from are quite different from those which expose you to unacceptable risk (and great stress). Each to their own I suppose as to what is considered an acceptable risk, but what I find sad is that it could be so different to the advantage of all if only..... I won't go there, as it's been said all too many times before.
