Hi - Does anyone know if we have any options on who we go with for our internet access? I need a very fast service but a 4 mb connection with PW is working out at €95 per month!! Exorbitant. I also need a wireless router installed. Any info very gratefully received. Thanks. The same goes for telecoms - do we get a choice of who we use and what we pay fo our calls???? So many questions.................

my understanding was that all telecom's ( phone and DSL ) could only come through PW as they had thier own central exchange that fed all the resorts.

I'm afraid ptan is correct.
Polaris World insist (although illegally) on only using Polaris Telecom for their services. They will not allow any other ISP to provide services either via land line or wireless. Nor apparently will they allow any antennas on the buildings or site.
There are companies in this area offering similar services for less than half the price for both internet and telephone services. Telitec being one.
I suppose the only long term solution is to apply pressure to polaris world to allow competition. Easier said than done I guess.
Regards,
Steve.

Hi All
I don’t know anything about Spanish law on this, but If what Steve says is correct, that it is illegal, when sufficient numbers of people have completed we can start a group action against PW on this and should win.

It will be easier to get a 3G USB stick/dongle from a Spanish mobile company - like vodafone and 3 are heavily advertising. Other thing to do would be to group with some residents and install a wireless router between you and then share the encryption key....you could easily get a number of people involved using one router....just a thought

The wifi answer would be the way to go if you happen to know your neighbours and they want connectivity. A decent router is only around £40 and would serve you plus the apartments either side ( so 6 apartments ) at a reasonable connectivity level. But I'd almost guarantee that the contract with Polaris telecom would prohibit connection sharing, ( if they found out ;-) )

We have a dongle that we have been using for the past 8 months we have had no problems as yet. we are with 3 on a monthly contract of £10 this allows us 1gb a month there are other options for higher GB's we have not ever yet exceeded our limit. DO NOT USE THIS IN SPAIN AS IT IS CLASSED AS ROAMING
Have a look in Spain for the same type. Dave & Lynn
