Had to laugh - as I had a real panic doing the same on my last visit!!  Fortunately mine was daylight, and I knew where the garage was, just wasn't sure I was going to make it.  I haven't used GoldCar, have used Centauro, and they were fine, but have used Solmar last couple of times, and have a Fusion for 8 days over christmas for €82, which I thought was pretty good.

Skell - will look out for you in the Berlingo, for a good laugh!! - Also hopefully catch you for a drink over Christmas - unfortunately coming back on the Friday, so won't be around for the Stoke game!!

Us too, I was so cross at the price that  Goldcar charged me for the tank of petrol (3x forecourt price) that I was prepared to push it back to the airport.  We coasted in on the fumes!

What was Solmar's policy about fuel for over 5days hire, return empty or full?

No paperwork here because I' in the local library, with fast free competers instead of my slow pay as you go in my house round the corner, but I think i'm paying £115 plus 40 for the extra insurance for 16days next week. Must look to get an annual policy soon as has been sugested elsewhere.

Solmar's policy for both my booked cars is full tank on pick up and return it empty.

Dickmans was 1/2 tank on pick up (they charged €30 in October) and return it empty. Dickmans office is actually a transit van in the car-park at San javier !

If you're looking for a cheap but good car hire company then I would definately recommend auriga crown both in Alicante and Murcia airport, but here is the weird part.  If you book online via a broker called do you spain, it is actually about 20 euro cheaper and the best bit you don't pay when you book, you simply print the voucher and hand it in at the desk in the airport then pay on arrival.  At no point do you give your card details online not even to secure and confirm the booking.  

I have used these three times already and have booked them again for Xmas and Easter, but I still always search the web for the best rates until I commit.  We paid 61 euro for a renault clio 5dr for 5 days.  83 euro for the honda civic for 5 days and 91 euro for a clio for 10 days.  Insurance is included in that price and you can add one additional driver for free.  You have to pay for a full tank of fuel upon collection, but if you don't use it all they allow you to fill up when you return the car and they will re-imburse you for the fuel they charged you.  

The first time we used them they offered us an upgrade on insurance for alloy wheel scuffs and windscreen chips etc, we were tempted at only 20euro but decided not to go with it.  When we returned all cars they don't even check them over and when I questionned this they said that they expect all of their cars to have surface scratches so I would advise no one to pay for additional cover, why would you need it?, it appears they find marks on the alloys acceptable. Do get me wrong the cars are lovely and you are certainly not driving sheds!!  If you can't find them on google PM me and I will give you their web address.

More than fully endorse what you said about Auriga Crown.  Absoloutely faultless service etc.  If you type in economycarhire.com.  Select Murcia Airport (or Alicante) from top of drop down menu.  Then look down the list as this is a sort of brokers list, but make sure the vehicle you select is from Auriga Crown.  Do not think any of you will be disappointed.  Have hired 3 vehicles from here and will continue to do so.
