Anyone completed using Solicitors should Read This

We completed on our apartment back in July 08 having taken a Spanish mortgage and giving our Solicitors POA.

Before completion our solicitor naturally asked for all the funds to be transfered to them and explained to us that the amount could not be accurately calculated as the Notary fees and Land Registry fees would only be given on the day of completion.

(Having taken a mortgage there was also double fees as the Mortgage and the purchase have to be registered.)

Now the interesting part.............

I contacted our solicitors to see if there was any money to come back to us and have just received an email saying that they have 1.962 Euro in their client account belonging to us.

I wonder how many other forum members have money sat in their solicitors client account belonging to them???

Totally agree with your comments.  I e-mailed my solicitor last week about whether everything had been completed in relation to the notary fees and was told that I had 353 euros sitting in my client account, and did I wish this to be transferred to my Spanish Bank account.

I'm all for doing my bit for charity, but handing over 353 euros to the Spanish solicitors benevolent fund is not in my nature, so I did ask him to give me my money back.

I'm sure he would have given me it back in all honesty, but as Phil says, it's worth asking your solicitor.

Quick update.............

Just received 1,960 euro into our account..................  Happy Days

May just be able to afford the community charges now.

We were down there last week and we went to collect the title deeds from our solicitor, and while there I asked him if we were due any money back.

We sat excitedly in the waiting room while we awaited a fax from the Notaris who were calculating the exact sum we were to receive. We passed the time planning what we were going to spend our unexpected windfall on.

A canopy for the pergoda perhaps? Or maybe we'd use it to pay for flights to come back in Easter? What about a digibox box for the telly?

In the event we received back the princely sum 3.99Euros, which only just about covered the car parking.
