Polaris TV Package

does anyone out there have it ? How long does it take for Polaris to organise it once you contact them ? Thinking of having it done when out next month.

I rang them today- they hope to organise it very quickly once you go in and pay. They install Tuesdays and Thursdays and apparently it will be on offer from 8th June @283 euro's (couldnt confirm how long this offer was going to be for). They will not sort or book over the telephone so you need to pay in person at the main office by the security gates, however someone else can do this for you if using the apartment  or can access your apartment for the installation, and they need to take your passport details  or NIE numbers (i'm going to suggest the person doing this for us also takes their passport along) They can do a modem for 80 euros also and then users can get an areanet card from the supermarket. therwise they can offer the various internat/tv packages starting at 32 euro's per month. However they did say the PW tv package (@283 euros on offer) is a one off payment.

Not impressed if they are really doing an "offer" reduced from the original 399 euros price tag, doesn't seem very fair to me.  Yes, I paid full price!

It must be annoying for people who paid 399, however I paid 125k for my apartment and could buy a similar one now for less than 90k! Thats just the ways things go!

however 283 sounds pretty reasonable to me when you dont have a monthly charge. I figure as I am paying for the upkeep of the system via my service charge, I may as well watch the TV!

Do you get all the main British chanels?

I know what you mean, but exchange rate was at least in our favour when we paid 125k, regarding tv charge it was a lot of money at 1.09 euros, still that's life I suppose.

Great to have English TV, all TV and Radio channels are available, watched Britain's Got Talent  when we were there the other week!  Weird in Spain, some would say sad!

I think that is a fair price for a one-off payment also (even if it is just for Sport xxx babes   Luv my sport - Assume this is the netball channel !!). Only thing I am wary of is if Polaris 'pull the plug' so to speak, if there are any contentious issues with the community over the maintenance payments for the system in the future. Didn't something like this happen on La Torre just recently - did it get sorted out anyone ??

I thought there were earlier threads where people who had bought this package had problems being able to get English programmes until the afternoon. Don't know if that's true. Of those of you who have bought it, are all the programmes available 24hours and of a good quality?

La Torre have no TV currently after Polaris invoiced the community for a substantial amount of money for upkeep of the infrastructure.  The only TV they have are the basic 6 Spanish channels you get by law and if you subscribed to Supris 07 for SKY - but only if you have a Supris provided smartcard,introduced in mid May @ 20€ per month. 

You never know with Polaris if they pull the same stunt on other resorts.

Just to keep you all informed, as from Monday 8th June (we have been informed) that polaris have introduced a special offer on the TV package for 300 euros (approx ? tax) not sure how long this offer is for.

To answer Lytons post the TV is very good quality the bugs have been fixed and it is available 24/7 except some BBC which comes on early afternoon due to the Satalite position not the equipment.

Cath & Kevin where did you learn of the reduced package from 8th June? are they going to refund everyone who paid 400€

Just received an email from Polaris. I aksed "how long will this discount last" they said "the whole of Summer"! Think I will be buying next time I am out, seems like a reasonible price to me!

I wouldnt expect refunds for those who paid 399, electrical items regularly fall in price, look at TV's, Phones and Laptops. I wouldnt be surprised if these boxes are not 200 euros next year!

We have also decided that we will get this installed and our son is going to try to organise it during his visit next week- the modem too. We've decided we dont want a big satellite dish up on the roof terrace and with regard to the La Torre problem aren't we paying a sort of service charge for the system to be at CdA within our community charges and the La Torre owners were not- so their problem wont arise on CdA ( I seem to remember the Spanish owners bringing this up at the first meeting as they dont want the digi box but have to pay for the services anyway but it was one of the many things in the original deal for CdA)

Yes we are allpaying about 8€ month for the TV maintenance and as you say La Torre never did this hence the big bill.

Just arrived back last night, signed up for the TV package at 209euro’s

209e - happy days ! Last I heard the offer was on at 289e - you sure this is not a 'typo' - I'll be signing up too !

My son has just signed up for us- to be installed next week at 209 euro's and WiFi modem at 165 euro's.
