Hi,
I read the Wifi threads from last year and e-mailed Brian as advised but no reply.
My family and I can only come out for one month each year unfortunately so we don't want to rent a land-line which we are told costs about 30 Euros/Month.
On the other hand, last year we bought a dongle for the computer [Orange] and although it worked OK most of the time, it cost a fortune to top up. - about 10 Euros/day depending on useage.
Can anyone recommend an easy [and cheap] way of going about it?
I was thinking about maybe a Spanish SIM card and using that but don't know how to go about it.
Any help would be appreciated!
Thanks,
Tom.

Hi Peter,
Yes, that's a great help. That sounds a lot better deal than Orange. It was also difficult to know when it would run out, and inevitably it would be in the middle of something! - Unlimited for 7 days sounds great!
Did you buy it in the mibile phone shop in Sabillinas?
Thanks again,
Tom.

Hi Tom
We did buy it in the mobile shop in Sabinillas. You have to buy the dongle initially, which I recall being around 60 euros, and then we top it up every time we come out. It is very straightforward - you just take the dongle and passcode into the shop and the lady tops it up!
Good luck!
Peter

Hi again,
I'm over here now and bought the dongle as suggested.
I had a very frustrating weekend trying to get it to work and finally took it back on the Monday morning. [Error codes 635 and 691]
We noticed that every time we go to the telefonique shop in Sabby that the two girls who normally work there have the annoying habit of trying to serve two or more people at once.
We had already guessed that this was the cause of our problem, although we were then told to come back at 5.00pm for "technical assistance".
Sure enough, the girl had not activated the dongle and of course blamed Vodafone.
All is well now and we can recommend the device but beware of the service!!

This is really valuable info. I have a UK Vodaphone dongle which works well in Spain, but costs £8.50 per day for connection, so buying a Spanish one for €60 is a much better option. I wonder what the usage charge is, though? WE arrive on 15th July for a month and will pop along to the shop in Sabby. Wonder what kind of service we'll get...!

Carrefour have a good deal here - I think it's something like €19 to buy and then €1 a day (my Spanish has a long way to go!). I saw the sign in Carrefour in Estepona and you can see it on their website.

That would be great, maryluv. Saying that, whenever I arrange to meet people here, it never seems to happen, usually due to me being out and about all the time with school, etc. But being that it's the holidays now, I may actually get it right!! I'll pm my details.

Since the Dongle was activated it's been going for 2 weeks on the original allowance - they said in the shop I might get one or two weeks before it runs out, so it's doing well! It's 15 Euros for another two weeks when it does run out.
Hope that's a help!
