I would have to get neale to fill you in on all the details but we have a little hub stand (Movistar) that a dongle goes in. We top it up usually by buying a pay as you go card at a shop near the taxi rank in Sabi. (Not a phone shop - found them useless). It's a general news type store I think that does western union money transfers etc). When credit runs out there is also an option to top up online but we found this sometimes didn't work and calling at the shop worked better for us.

It is. We don't have a landline and just go and purchase a top up when we arrive. We are sometimes there for a few weeks at a time and it works out a lot more economical than roaming charges. Neale set it up for tv last time we were out but really just to access football matches as I recall!

The shop is opposite the little church square in Sabinillas - or on the opposite side of the road to the taxi rank, just a little further down on the left (looking at the sea).

I am interested in obtaining the Moviestar Hub and Dongle, is the Dongle a moviestar brand and are both obtainable from this shop? I would like to leave it set up for my rentals to use when there would it be possible, and easy to set up? I am on the lower part of Duquesa Vilage.

Hi I too am a owner in duquesa village and when I was last down in DV in February I went into the movie star shop in Sabinillas to purchase the hub and dongle and the assistant told me it was not possible that I needed a land line etc. I am going back down again next week to get this sorted as I to only require wi-if for a fee weeks of the year and also for any prospective renters. Any advise / help would be much appreciated prior to my going down as I found it quiet frustrating when I was last down there going round to all the different providers and getting no where. Many thanks Amanda Evans Duquesa Village 17.64.03

When I was there in September there was a piece on the local radio by a company who had put a dish on the mountains above estapona that was looking towards Duquesa village and the area around that could be picked up by our dish to provide internet access of a size and speed to enable sky tv to be picked up via the internet. They said that if the Village could ensure about half a dozen people to sign up to the subscription they would do the installation free of charge to the community. Cost would be about 25€ a month. has anyone else heard of this or can provide an upate?

Hi Amanda
I believe the Little Hub Stand is no longer manufactured/ sold as such. It has been replaced by a MiFi unit. This uses the sim card from the dongle and transmits WiFi as the other unit did.
I believe the item Movistar now sell uses a landline connection and just uses the 3G dongle as a backup connection if the land line fails.
Suggest you need too look for a MiFi unit that uses a Movistar sim.
Good Luck in your search

Hi All
We were in DV before Easter and we went for drinks to a new restaurant 52Duquesa. We noticed that they had Sky TV playing and we asked how they were receiving their signal. Apparently, they simply had their box re-tuned by a chap called Tim Milne of DHS (952 800 544 / 662 100 300).
Could someone have a chat with him to see if it's as simple as that?
Alex

Can we just clarify the situation - SKY tv has not been lost, only the BBC, ITV and C4 channels. All the other free to air channels that you can receive with your SKY box are still available. Obviously, if you subscribe to SKY, all the subscription channels are still available (excluding the free to air BBC, ITV, etc. although some HD channels may still be available with an HD subscription).
There are companies selling systems or realigning dishes to receive what appears to be a 'backup' service of some BBC channels, ITV and C4 from another satellite. This apparently requires no more than an 80cm-1m dish and a receiver specifically tuned to receive this transmission. I believe you also need the codes to decrypt the channels which apparently change frequently (but your installer will supply you with these when they change).
You cannot receive these and the SKY channels using the same dish. You require two separate dishes and boxes if you wish to receive both.

We were in DV until 12 April 2014 and we had lost almost all our Sky Freeview channels, except Challenge, Pick, S4C, CBS and a couple of movie channels. We've lost all the BBC (BBC 1, 2, 3 and 4) and ITV (ITV 1, 2, 3 and 4) channels, Channels 4 and 5 and all the Kids TV channels that we used to receive on Freeview.
Can AEA look into getting another dish then, if that's all we need to get the terrestrial channels back?
