Hi

Has anyone on phase 1 applied for the NIE number in the Roda area? I believe we have to go to the local (international) police station, is it closeby? For explanation on what an NIE number is all about these is a seperate thread on eos.

We went to Cartegena police station for our NIE number's and this was organised by our solicitor.  I don't know if all police stations issue them or whether its just the bigger ones.  There is a police station in Los Alcazares. 

Our Solicitor is in Aguila so we had a long drive there to sort out our NIE.  We had to go to the local Notary and gave the Solicitor the authority to then sign for the certificate on our behalf.  This was mid October and we have still not had the number yet but hopefully all is in order!

We did get the impression it was very 'hit and miss' and depended on how receptive the Notary was on the day and even more so with the local police stations.  Our Solicitor said they would have kept us waiting all day depending on their mood?!

i went to the spanish embassy in dublin( ireland by the way) on friday with my application form,passport,photocopies of everything and a registered envelope.you dial 111 on the phone in the reception and a spanish lady comes down from upstairs,takes the information and thats it. you get your NIE in your registered envelope in 3 months ive been told. the best day to go there is friday as they deal with visas aswell mon to thurs.they send it to madrid for processing.hope this helps all ye irish purchasers and i can email the application to anyone who needs it with the english translation sheet aswell.best of luck and happy new year to all.

Hi Ace thanks for that it worked great .just one thing,under locaid what am i filling in is it the address at roda [which i dont know ] or is it the address here at home

Just to let ye Irish purchasers know that my NIE number came back in my registered envelope today.It took about 45 days to process going thru the embassy in Dublin.

Without a doubt............stress free NIE.

You can also get it same day, in Alicante or Cartegena if you are over, it is rather an early start but it gets it all done and dusted straight away. There are a number of people out here that take you up there and help you fill out all the forms and even queue up for you while you have a coffee so it is rather hassle free

Has any one been to Catagena to obtain their NIE without the help from either managment company or solicitor.

If so how long did it take and how complicated is the process if you do not understand Spanish.

We are trying to get an NIE number from Cartegena on our own next week so will let you know.

However a Spanish friend of mine has been in contact with them by phone for me, and was told that you must hand in application forms with copies of your passports. They take c 3 weeks to process and only then can you can then collect them. Apparantley someone else can collect them on your behalf if you give permission, POA or something like that.

Alicante police station may do them while you wait, but you have to start queing very early in the morning and even then you may be told to return in a couple of days to collect them.

Both Cartegena, and Alicante police stations close mid afternoon I think.

Last week we were given perfect directions to Cartegena police station in Plaza Espana by Roda sales office. Took along 2 copies of completed forms from the internet + 2 copies of both passports.

Went around the outside of the Police station building, past the queues of non Europeans, up a ramp showed our forms to a policeman and was directed to an officials desk.

We wanted to collect when next over so said " Por favor me gusteria recoger mis NIE's en Agosto". To which the guy replied "No problema"

They give you date stamped copies back of the duplicate forms you submitted as a reciept.

The whole process took no more than 10 minutes and if the forms are ready in "Agosto", then I would say anyone can do it without a solicitor or real estate agent.
