Hi all

Just returned after doing completion on Isla property block 4 and am now looking into air conditioning units.  Can anybody out there offer advice.  I've heard a few horror stories so far about the pre install system.

Thanks

Sue and Duncan

Sorry about last post  I am new to this and haven't quite got to grips with what I can and can't write.

Ask the Air Conditioning Company that you are going to use if they check out the pre-installation before fitting, some problems can be detected and repaired before the units are installed.

The most common problems that we find with the pre-installation is  the drains for the units are set too high in the wall (water won't flow uphill) so they may need to be lowered, Polaris World can then correct the problem before fitting. The other problem that can happen is the pipes can be crimped together in the wall, this is not so easy to detect before installation, but is apparent after fitting, your installer should be able to tell this and again Polaris World will need to be informed to sort the problem out.

Hope this is of some help

Sue and Duncan,

God I never thought I be saying this but it maybe worth considering Polaris HomeStyle.  Ok they maybe a little ( or a lot ) more expensive than most, you'll need to compare the latest prices, but it does mean that you'll only have to deal with one company if there are problems.   There have been, as I'm sure you're aware, a lot of problems with the pre-install which Polaris having been trying to put down to the actual installers rather than themselves, having Polaris do the lot will avoid this and the €50 call out deposit that some as still trying to get back.   There is also the question of what happens to warrenties etc if your third-party installer goes out of business? ( as has recently happened ).

So whilst I am not recommending them, I've had problems the same as anyone else,  it's definately worth getting a quote and then deciding if the ( possible ) peace of mind is worth the cost.

Hi Sue and Duncan

We had a small problem with our aircon and the company that fitted it seems to have disappeared. We have since been in touch with Apollo Air and they are doing everything they can to sort out our problem. They are very helpful and Caroline will respond to any questions you have very quickly.

If you would like their contact details then PM me and i will send them to you.

All the best with your new property

Kev

Could I please make things clear as regards to Polar Air (Polar Air Gary details required that was an earlier thread if you refer back)

Apollo Air were sub contracted by Gary at Polar Air on odd occasions and now that Polar Air seem not to be trading we are just doing our best to sort out some of the problems that were left behind and continuing to offer the same level of service that Gary has over the last year.

Has anyone used Climazone for air Conditioning as I need to get a few quotes to compare.  Gary from Polar Air was a very good price and I need to get a comparative quote being that he appears to be gone! but also good after sales service is important.

Try a company called Debonair. Two English guys who have been operating for 5 years out in Spain and do a fantastic job to the highest standards. We did have a problem with our drain pipes but Polaris sorted that very quickly. Generally the water drainage pipes need a vent placing in them to allow air locks to escape - a very simple procedure so don't panic if you have the same problem.

Contact Zane D'Mente  zane.debonair@gmail.com for a quote.

Sorry if this has been covered elsewhere but reading a few of the posts has got me slightly concerned.

I had Gary from Polarair install air con in our apartment about a month ago. He emailed me to say that all work had been done, and I then transfered funds to him. From this I have emailed him regarding reciepts and warranties but have heard nothing back. Starting to panic now as do not have prove that the air con is actually in, I am £2000 wose off, and I cannot get hold of him to ease my concerns.

If anyone can assist in these matters it will be greatly appreciated.

It has been reported, that Gary L has left the country.(Allegedly)   He did our air con and hundreds of others, so there is a slight panic going on.   Have no problems with the job he did for us.  A bit concerned that should anything go wrong we can't get to him,  although if anything goes wrong with the units, we have those warranties.

I take it you don't have a key holder?   What about someone you have met that is there at the moment, that could perhaps go to the call center with your permission by email and get your key from PW to check that you have at least got air con?  If you haven't then this needs to be taken seriously.  If you don't know anyone there, what Jardin, or penthouse are you in?  Someone there may be able to help

We used Climazone back in December. Hadn't used one of the units very much since installation & typically wasnt working properly when we had 2 weeks out there recently. They came out within a few days without any problems at all & all been fixed. They are currently working on La Isla I believe.

Good luck!

Nonsense in my view. Having been over in the height of summer it is the bedrooms where you will need the cooling effect most of all. It is not possible to leave the windows or patio doors open during the night because of the insects etc and unless you are used to sleeping with your central heating on all night at home, then air con in the bedrooms is essential.

For me a good air con system is the most important thing you will install so don't cut corners. Good and cheap heating in the winter and quiet and efficient cooling in the summer.

Asillisa - The last post is correct.  Not only for the summer but it really does get cold in the winter (and I live in Aberdeen!!).  You will need a unit in lounge and one in each bedroom.  A hot/cold system is good.  Don't bother with radiators as the aircon system copes very well.  Arlene

Forgot to mention prices - a tip top heat pump system like a 'Daikin' system will cost around the 3250 euros - well worth it as it is cheap to run and you will recover cost very quickly. A very good system like Panasonic will cost around 2500 euros. A cheapo installed by a donkey will cost around 1800 - but beware! (apologies to all donkeys out there.)

Bradley from Chillout installed our system. Very efficient, courteous and competative. You will certainly need 1 unit in each bedroom, and 1 in the living room. When considering which system you get, take into account that if you are renting out, then it is worth the extra money for the cheaper to run systems, as the money saved long term will stack up. However just for personal use for several weeks a year, go for the cheaper options. Having just had 4 weeks there, you certainly need a system though, its very hot !
