Hi all, thanks to everyone who has contributed to this forum just about kept me sane during the long periods of 'silence' from Caledona.

I want to contact Caledona about a number of issues and as 'Esther' appears to be switched on and seems to answer queries constructively, i wonder if someone could post her email address on here.

Many thanks
Kevin

I too was very pleased with the reply I got from Celia Garcia, I thought it was a very clear and full answer to my query about the air-conditioning and the use of the client card - interestingly though it was the exact same answer (word for word) as the one Kev2 got from Esther - turns out they must have template answers for all expected questions fired at them!

Hi all
At least now(if answers are templated) that everybody will get the same information and not the confusing variants that we have received in the past year.

hi all

Just to say that I got this reply from Gary from polar air :

Have  been talking to our suppliers this morning concerning purchases of the
lg unit you require,If we can get a body of min.20 persons together,we are
prepared to make a bulk purchase of these machines and offer them installed
at 2200.00 euros including iva and installation, this is a saving of  438.00
euros on coveras immediate offer,a saving of 1000.00 euros if you are to
have it installed afterwards by them.

As Dave has previously said,  it may well be worth people to get together nearer the time ( via this message board), so as  to get the best deal available . The same might be true for furniture packages and possibly other services.

I would totally agree with the power of bulk buy both from a cost and service perspective.

Glad to see that Gary from polar air replied to your queries - I'm still waiting after 6 days??!!

We contacted Gary and got same reply as Kev (power in numbers eh?).
Definately one to consider and if you pop onto Roda forum you will see most people have been pleased with his service.
Ashish I wonder if your email went astray - We emailed late one evening and Gary replied 1st thing in the morning (7.30 to be precise)
Do you think we need to be gathering a list of interested parties yet?

Thought I might as well take up the offer for the air conditioning and emailed Corvera accordingly. However they expect 50% up front and balance on completion. I am about to do the maths with regard to am I better off with the money in the bank and hope exchange rates improve by next year, if so it could make up for the %age reduction at this stage. Also it was sold that you could add the value onto any mortgage you may take out on the property, not exactly possible with 50% paid. Hanging fire now. Any other thoughts. icspain

Hi icspain, I would put this question to aftersales as their offer did stipulate that the cost could be added to mortgage.  If you have to pay 50% upfront, obviously, this is not an option.  It appears that there are other companies who are directly in competition with Calidonia, apart from anything else - cheaper, and they may be interested to know that purchasers may take their offers over Calidonias if this is the case.

I think a bulk buy using 'people power' would be the best option. Obviously, Corvera not too concerned about the competition or they would have organised a better offer.

The attraction that Calidonia have on their side is the ease of installation.  It will all be done and dusted before completion.  This is what will attract purchasers to using their services over others - this coupled with the fact that they stated that the cost could be added to the mortgage.  That is where competition comes into it.  I imagine that they are not that bothered about being slightly above other quotes because of the convenience on installation, but if you take out the attraction of adding the cost to you mortgage, other quotes could start to look more attractive.

Anita.

From my perspective:

1) I don't need to put the extra cost of an airconditioning unit into the mortgage and then pay a percentage on top of it. In effect all I am doing is paying a larger amount over the longer term for the sake of a reduced initial outlay. I would rather get a competitive quote for the initial outlay and pay this in full. This initial outlay was supposed to be 100% of the unit cost - now we are told that this is 50% with 50% up front.

2) How about this scenario - there is a delay in installing the unit (not too far fetched a thought considering the track record to date). Good luck  in trying to sort things out with Corvera.

3) I really think that the hastle is going to be worth it given a more competitive quote. Its not like you are going to have to pull up the carpets or disappoint rental clients lining up to spend their summer holidays in an incomplete building site. In fact I would go further and say that you will probably save a considerable amount of money kitting the place out over a couple of weeks through more 'bulk buy' competitive quotes for a range of items.

Horses for courses.

Hi Ash

I agree with your comments, it seems to me that Calidona offers always come at a price.

I often read comments on the Roda forum, one of the latest comments is regarding the high cost and poor rental reterns promised by Roda rental services, this is after the clients have paid over the odds for there furniture packages.

Many offers seem to have strings attached.

Promotional offer which cannot be used to purchase A/C units.

They seem to have negative answers to any financial offer that may be advantagous to the client.

I have come to the conclusion that we would be better off going it alone from now on regarding extras,
ie  furnishings, rentals, A/C, cleaning etc etc, at least that way we can obtain different quotes for many of the remaing items that are required.

Hi all

When we had ours installed by an external contractor at Roda he installed it the Friday we arrived on the Saturday to find it in perfect working order and no evidence (ie mess) of installation. It was that easy

I don´t want to confuse the issue here as the general concept is a great idea. I also have heard good things about the company mentioned within the thread. I would suggest that when there is sufficient numbers interested  that it might be worth getting two or three quotes to  get maximum benefit. I know someone who fits air con units at good prices so could try him once we know the numbers interested.

Cheers
Chris
