As for Disney, call me a boring old fart but do we really want hoards of Mickey Mouse fans descending upon us. Currently the area is great, a bit of a Costa del Sol secret and quite frankly I would like it to remain that way. For the sake of a few thousand more on the resale of my apartment I would not want to compromise what I basically chose the area for in the first place.
I would hate to see it become like the resorts nearer to Malaga. If Disney do purchase land lets hope and pray it will only be the education centre that has been mentioned in the past and not a roller coaster city as I feel it may truly ruin what we have.

Thanks for your update which is more or less what I was thinking.
(I have edited my post to reflect the updated info)
On my Site Map I had written ApartHotel over both Phases 5 and 6 so must have been told that at some time in the past by Arrogant 2000.
However, it surely couldn't cover both Phases 5 and 6 ?
The half started building on Phase 5 would be, my guess, the ApartHotel as it looks slightly different from the rest of the structures.
Although the idea of our very own exclusive Clubhouse is very appealing, (and would certainly add to the value of our apartments), the running cost of this would have to be incorporated into the Community Fees, and i can tell you it wouldn't be cheap.
An ApartHotel, provided it has bar, restaurant, gym, indoor heated pool, sauna, and all the other bits, would work for me.
It means the cost shouldn't be in our Community Fees and everyone has the option to join through Membership. There might even be a discounted fee for us.
It would then be open to all the surrounding developments and residences, making it a viable business proposition, and we get the best of both worlds.
As an afterthought, the old "Rory's" on the other side of the N340 would be a great bar/restaurant complex if it was totally modernised. Once our development is finished, that too may be a viable business proposition.
There was talk of a new footbridge being constructed but I haven't heard anything lately about this. If one was to be constructed it would be close to the existing one, which is a fair dander from our apartments.

KennyLynn and Laurdan
The D Word will only accelerate the growth in the region, not stop it.
It's because our area is so attractive that it will grow organically, regardless. We can only have it fast or slow.
I remember Marbella some 25 years ago and look at it now, to me nowhere near as nice as it once was (although the Orange Square is still great)
That's why we moved on down the coast to the less populated and built area we are now in, but the Monster is coming anyway.
Oh, and bring back Matron, National Service, the Birch........

OK, have now my plan in front of me.
- Phase 5 I was told verbally by Paul Cox was where the aparthotel would be. This was only ever said verbally and never put in writing, to me anyway.
- Behind phase 2 on my plan shows a park. This is currently a school and playground area, so that will remain.
- Behind the school (what should have been the park) I have a clubhouse, Bar & restaurant and adjacent to it sports facilities. Now whether this will be built, I do not know. Only the town hall or Prienesur can answer that.
It would make sense for sports facilities to be built next to the school, as I have been informed that it is a secondary school not primary, therefore they could use the sports facilities, It could also be that the sports facilities are to be run by the local council for the Manilva area as a whole. I think that the town hall have put pressure onto the developers to build facilities that the whole of the community can use, i.e. the road, school, park and may be sports facilities. As for the clubhouse bar & restaurant this may well be attached to the sports facilities and again not be as exclusive as some may want.

The D word may accelerate growth but at what cost?? I cannot think of anything more annoying than that horrible M.I.C.K.E.Y song being sung every where and all those horrible shops selling anything and everything with silly little black ears on. Please, please if you want Disney in the sun go to Florida, you'll have a fantastic time; you can even visit MGM studios whilst you are there. NO, we choose Spain for many reasons, but it was most defiantly not so I could cuddle up to Minnie and Mickey and sing M.I.C.K.E.Y M.O.U.S.E.
Expansion of the area is defiantly going to happen, but I hope that it is considered really careful and not allowed to ruin the area. I have been travelling to Spain since 1963 and have seen the huge mistakes that have been made to the coastline. I selfishly hope that Sabbi can remain the Spanish town it is, I would rather see more of a Spanish influence that an American one.
Now boys who was up for the cane!! First come first served and don't all rush at once . As for matron, national service and the birch.... now where is that matron outfit?

I'm sorry you have left the buiding, - I liked your posts.
We only bought in April 07, so our wait has been nowhere as long as some of you early buyers.
But the then purchase prices, I'm sure, was a LOT less than ours, and that is to reflect that you were buying so early, and rightly so.
The completion date was surely the same though, Oct 06, and in that we all share the frustration incurred since then.
To be honest, we would rather have bought at the lower price back in 2003 or 2004, and since we wouldn't have expected anything anyway to Oct 06, we would have been in a much better position - another €30k or €40k ahead.
We too are only buying for 2 to 3 holidays a year, plus a few quick trips, and to get a foothold in the market for when we retire in a few years time.
I wish you all the best, - sometimes it is a 50/50 call and it can fall either way.
We are sticking on, especially as we seem to be in the final stages although our completion is looking like sometime early in 2008.
I think it will be worth it however, especially since I had mentally written it off for 2007 anyway.
Take care

I'll ditto that, it is always sad when someone decides to cancel, especially after such a long wait. But situations change and everyone makes a decision that feels right for them.
I currently cannot be bothered with the talk of making of profit etc, I just want to have my apartment and enjoy it. If after a period of time I believe I have made the wrong decision then I shall sell and move on. Lets face it everything goes at the right price and if I lose then so be it, at least I can say I gave it a go, rather than 'what if'.

Yep, we bought ours as a holiday apartment, for the next several years, then sell and move on just down the road when we retire.
Won't tell you where in case somebody beats us to it ! :-)
We are happy enough at the price we paid (cheaper would have been better) but there you go. I would say most of you have had your apartments at a better price than ours but that's fair enough as you were taking a bigger chance on off-plan. When we bought at least the works were nearing completion so we could actually see what we were buying.
Whereas you were buying on a concept and a vision. Good call for sure.
The market will take care of itself , but remember, we are buying in the California of Europe, and at the Malibu Beach of California at that,
So demand should always be basically there
Saying all that we wouldn't buy off plan again - I would rather pay the extra and buy a place that you can see exactly what you are getting.

The Disney story won't go away. I believe it's a double edged sword. On the one hand it is possible it could create a 'monster' and spoil the area. On the other side it would certainly bring prosperity to Manilva and increase the value of the properties not to mention making rentals a more attractive proposition. From what I heard some time ago if it happened it would be a themed educational park and not based on Euro Disney or Disney World. So that would be good. We have already got a Mickey Mouse in the form of our developer!
On another issue will the developer ever let clients look at their own Apartment? it's all very well looking at the show apartment but it would obviously be advantageous to look at ones own property. They have to permit it sooner or later but how many trips will it take?

We must have got them on a good day in April when we went because they let us in to our apartment! We were really pleased and can't wait for it all to go through. We stood on our balcony, and looked right over the pool........I could nearly taste the Sangria.....

When we visited our apartment in October 2006, the washing machine was already in place in the outdoor utility room and covered in dirt. The other appliances were also in place and gathering dust. Would it be reasonable to ask for a new set of appliances on the snagging list ?

What would normally happen is that the builders will snag it themselves and polish the marble and give it a general clean up. That is to reduce the snagging list done by us. In the UK then a cleaning company is then hired to finish it of to a living standard. I would imagine they will want to keep all snagging to a minimum, but it remains to be seen what they will do.
You will find that anything you leave out doors will have to be washed down on a daily basis. One of the problems of living in Spain due to the dry weather conditions and the excessive amount of construction in the area is dust! Even in doors the dust will be everywhere. It is a fact that will drive us all mad but hey ho give you something to do in the morning . I cannot see them dishing out new appliances just because they are dirty, lets just hope after all this time that they work. I am more concerned about the guarantees associated with them, they will most certainly have expired, unless they go on the date we move in.

Hi All On the subject of D all have a different agenda, those that want to rent out 52weeks per year would obviously jump for joy if big D arrived, whilst those wanting to use there apartments for stints of 2to 3 months at a time would not be so welcoming to have hoardes of kids invading.(Not against kids mind I used to be one ) on aweekly basis.
I do not believe that Big D is about to land on Manilva it is just hype generated by estate agents. But if it does we will have to move some where less rowdy ,maybe Fuengorola

Whilst my post about appliances was rather "tongue in cheek", the issue of warranties raised by Laurdan is valid. The supplied appliances may be branded Siemens, but they are the lowest spec in the catalogue. Our washing machine will probably be stored in the basement and replaced by our trusty John Lewis washing machine and tumble drier.

i already asked elena (lawyer) about the appliances in july on the phone. she said that they will stay as they are but guarantees will start from the date of completion so will be covered under normal warranties.
suzanne
p.s. will we be all posting on a new thread saying december/january completion next? because all year we just keep jumping months and all thinking its going to happen. i'm fed up now

I know Suzanne. We said we would review it all in September and here we are, still hanging on in October! We have had a big chat, and we just feel that there are so many positive aspects to this development that unless it all gets very silly indeed, we're going to hang on in. Can't say that we are very impressed with our solicitor though. In July, she said she'd get back to us in September and we've heard nothing. You'd think just out of politeness they'd get in touch. I've tried sending an email and haven't had a reply. It's just rude.
