In world trade terms the European Union is treated as one country. In international diplomacy the EU negotiates as one. The direction of travel for the project is for statehood. That progress will continue after the UK leaves and my hope is for all British European residents will one day be given a European passport enabling us to keep our freedom of movement, rights to work and other benefits.

If you go to the WTO web site and calculate what a future awaits the UK after no deal you will see the very real difficulties coming. Add to that a currency below parity with the Euro that will increase import costs.  Britain is a trading nation it survives by trade. Yes trade will continue but at very much reduced volume due to higher costs. The EU is almost certainly going to turn its back against further negotiations on trade. They know the UK will have no choice but to make concessions.

Johnson believes the EU will give way. He's a fool. He has simply no idea how the EU operates. He's going  to look even sillier than he does already in a short time when it's he who will need to backdown from the petard he's hoisted for himself.

Boris seems to be walking the Walk and talking the talk... it's refreshing to see a British PM that has the balls to stand up and say it how it is.. good on you Boris you are getting my vote every time.

seriously deluded little englanders on here. Johnson is an embarrassment to this country and the UK is a laughing stock that such a man can be PM without going to the electorate. A right wing bullshitter of the most right wing party in Europe. The tories are finished. If they drag us out of Europe the economic consequences will be entirely on their heads. If they get some sort of deal the zealots will never be satisfied. They'll get their arses felt big time at the next election but by then the damage they have wreaked will be done.

Brexit has become a religion, not an argument. That's why the only justification that can be found for why Johnson would be successful is 'optimism' - which operates in this context like some kind of magic spell.

There will be one difference, though. If they fail, it won't be blamed on themselves, as it was on May. It'll be blamed on Europe for refusing to give in to everything they wanted. And it'll be blamed on Remainers at home, whether in other parties, or the media, or parliament, or the civil service. It's never, ever their fault.

(Ian Dunt).

The blame game propaganda process has already begun. Johnson said today if no deal happens it will be Europe's fault. The narrative is being twisted to suit the purpose. The realities utterly lost on "Little England".

Johnson was claiming last week about reciprocating rights in the UK granted to Brits abroad in the EU. More bullshit because he has no intention of putting it in law. He's claiming today in Wales he'll help farmers, then we've got more cops reversing the cuts made by his own party...how anyone can believe this crap is beyond me. Intends borrowing more money...and this is the party who have subjected us to savage cuts for the past decade whilst doubling the national debt

Little England as some of you put it .. happens to be one of the most powerful country's in world... anytime the world is threatened by terrorism the British & the Yanks are always on hand to sort the problem out... while the EU does bugger all .. don't  forget it .Rule Britannia .

** EDITED - Against forum rules **

How many of the missions, like Bosnia some years ago, were done by the UK and USA? Well, that was actually a EU mission under EUFOR. My husband knows this because he was there and wore the EUFOR tac badge.

Or the dozens of EUFOR missions going on at the moment in the Congo, Chad etc. Or the British troops just deployed to Mali to join the EUFOR mission that's been there for 5 years.

How many other countries, apart from UK and USA, took part in the Afghanistan and Iraq campaigns? You probably think none as you are showing your "little Englander" mentality but the 800 casualties sustained by French troops in Afghanistan may give you a clue.

In addition to the UK and USA forces, IFOR (Afg) contained troops from France (88 killed, over 750 badly wounded), Germany (57 killed), Italy (53 killed), Denmark (47 killed), Spain (35 killed and 62 killed in an air crash)

Norway, Estonia, Latvia........ I could go on** EDITED - Against forum rules **

The UN mission pulled out of Chad and authorised the EU to take over the mission in 2007 and they've been there ever since.with France having the most troops (2000), with Italy, Spain, Germany and many other EU countries taking part including UK with 4 troops there.

France have suffered casualties in 8 of the 15 current EUFOR and EUNAV mission in Europe, Africa and the Indian Ocean and have taken part in virtually all the 40 or so mission carried out by the EU in the last 15 years.

EU does "bugger all"? ** EDITED - Against forum rules **.

Yes Marie good post. The British Royal Navy cannot police the Gulf of Hormuz to protect it's oil tankers. It does not have enough ships. The government has been forced to ask it's EU partners to help out. The navies of France and Denmark are now assisting. The US either declined to help or were not asked. It's a delicious irony that after 31st October accordingly, the security and cooperation treaties with the EU will no longer apply. I wonder what le petite Anglais think of that?.

Given that we now know who is Prime Minister, this thread serves little purpose, so it is being locked before it completely derails.

If you wish to start a new discussion, please open a new thread.

Thanks
