Community Charge meeting

Hi All,

A meeting of residents took place in the Cafe on Condado De Alhama on Sunday morning, 10.00. It was agreed that the community charges were excessive and some doubt expressed about certain legalities.

We have decided as a group to wait and see what happens at the next meeting with the community to see if they have made any changes. If this is not the case then people are in agreement that we need to unite, all nationalities to fight the proposed charges.

Good to know about the meeting. How was this organised and how many people attended?

Can I ask who organised the meeting? Was it just for residents or were non-residents invited?

First we've heard of a meeting. Anything else come out of it?

Rumour control has stated on this forum that the community charges for 2008 will be around 20e to 30e per month.  Does anyone have any concrete evidence of this fact or is it just another red herring.

I have answered most of you by private message but basicall myself and Steve from Jardine 8 organised the meeting. It was done on short notice, so there wasn't time to inform everyone. Basically it was attended by residents and non residents, unfortunately only one Spanish person was found to attend but a gentleman from Jardine 1 who is Venezualan and speaks English and Spanish was very helpful, as he has been a community president in the past.

We agreed to wait for the next official meeting and get the garden representatives elected. I believe they must be resident which makes good sense as they need to be contactable all year. We are hoping PW or rather the community has taken on board the feeling expressed when they announced the charges which were almost double what we had been led to believe over the past 2 years.

Thanks for the info Mel, i agree see if they reduce the charges at the next meeting, although i don't think they would drop them down to the charges we were told before we bought. If they don't then we can all do something about it.

We might need to set up a separete forum on one of the other sites, as this one is open to everone.

This way we should be able to communicate must quicker amongst each other and better origanised.

Just an idea.. not sure what the best forum would be, but it should be just for Condado only

Another meeting is being held today. I only knew about it myself yesterday. Our Venezualan gentleman has some news for us. I'll try and post the information ASAP.

I know many of us have seen the .pdf from the president at La Torre explaining how their community charge is calculated and how it should be done.

It explains in very simple language how the community charge is divided up.

The same principles should apply on Condado.

For any new members of the forum.  If you want a copy please PM me and I will send it to you. (Its 1.8 Mb in size)

La Torre, I am led to understand is bankrupt or at least their community is in serious financial difficulty. I don't think we should look there for an example.

Anyway, the upshot of our meeting was that PW have broken the equivalent of the Trades Description Act or Advertising standards. They have not provided what they advertised and we can make a complaint under that legislation.

Is it going to be group action?  People have tried in the past to take action about not getting what was advertised but have been unsuccessful

Hi everyone.

I have looked at all of the advertising litrature & brochures for Condado that we still have & unless I am blind I do not see anything that says Artists Impression. For reference only. That usually accompanies such litrature. So maybe there is a case as previously mentioned after all.

Just started reading this thread with interest as we are completing next week and have all this to come ie: community charges, electrcic, water, etc....Anyway, when you say that PW have broken the equivelant of the Trades Description act, is this to do with the community charges or just about everything else that they promised at the beginning.

If we are successful in bringing PW to task, are we going to be in a catch 22 situation. By this I mean that in being successful, I can understand them being forced to set the fees at a sensible level but what would we be expecting them to put right the other things that people have been complaining about over the last 12-18 months. Surely forcing PW into a corner will mean that the whole community on Condado may suffer. Sorry if I seem to be jumping the gun or missing the point. If I have, perhaps someone could clarify the situation for me.
