Oha denounces the PSOE Government's refusal to fulfill its obligation to refurbish the Carvajal
The Mayoress of Fuengirola, Esperanza Ona, has denounced the obstacles from the Ministry of the Environment for the non-compliance with the agreement between the State and the Town Hall which requires that the PSOE Central Government to carry out the refurbishment of the Torreblanca - Carvajal Promenade.
Specifically, they now ask for strict compliance with the maritime-land line of public domain, which would mean invasion of 15 private residents communities, apart from eliminating parkings and making the whole promenade pedestrian. This would allow access only to vehicles with garage.
The Minister refuses to meet with
the Mayoress of Fuengirola about refurbishment of the Carvajal Promenade
Ona demands the fulfilment of the agreement reached which called for the Town Hall to carry out the first phase and the Central Government the three remaining ones
The Mayoress of Fuengirola, Esperanza Ona, demands that the Ministry of the Environment fulfils the agreement reached between the Town Hall and the Government. Ona remembers that, faced with the refusal of the Ministry to carry out the 4th phase of the Promenade, she requested an appointment with the Minister, which has also been refused. In this sense, the mayoress asked for more efforts and speed to "coordinate stances which should have never distanced since an agreement reached between the State and a Town Hall cannot be broken".
Last 30th of January the Town Hall received a letter stating the Government's decision not to carry out the works corresponding to the same, with the excuse that the project, drawn up by Coast's own technicians, does not meet the expectations for environmental improvement deemed appropriate now.
The letter sent by the State, which should carry out the works, proposes making the stretch of the promenade corresponding to Carvajal, pedestrian, with just one 3 m lane with use restricted to those vehicles with garage space; elimination of all parkings;
creation of a 2.5 m lane for bycicles and recovery of the maritime-land public domain. This latter condition would force incorporating land occupied by 15 communities, two private plots and a hotel, built with building permission more than 30 years ago.
"This is why our Town Hall has not requested that the 4th phase of the Promenade be carried out. Refurbishment of its complete length had already been agreed with Mr. Borrell, then PSOE's Minister of Public Works. Therefore, there was no need for any request, it means just carrying out and fulfil an agreement between two administrations", stated the mayoress.
In the agreement reached with the Ministry, it was decided to divide works in four phases. Furthermore, they were indicated on the design as well as how this was going to be carried out and the payment terms. "It has always been met, regardless of the political party having the obligation to meet it. That's why introducing alterations at this time means violating what had been agreed upon", stated the mayoress.
