Thanks Norm,    and as a you say clearly the Tax Number in country of residence, not NI number.

So that means it will be even easier for Hacienda and HMRC to laise and exhange info. on ones assets, earnings and capital,  in both the UK and in Spain.

I do hope that every UK resident has declared their holiday home in Spain as a potential capital gain (as is required by tax laws in UK )

If not,  then I suggest they get in first and do it now, before they get a letter from HMRC.

What is a tax number.  I used NI number as this is the unique tax identifier to the inland revenue.

Sorry for my contribution to the confusion.

Of course the NI number (National Insurance) is the tax number.

I had it in my mind that the poster meant National Health number, my mistake,

(too many numbers in UK, should be more like Spain where the NIE is used for almost everything)

NI number is not the Tax Number but perhaps may be accepted as such by the Spanish Authorities.  Any communication from the Inland Revenue will contain your tax number.

Ok Norm.

I checked my tax paperwork again.    It show a Tax Ref No and the NI number.

So my apology still applies.

Hi all, can anyone tell me what 'Income type' I put in in box 02 on Form 210, we have not made any income we just want to pay non residents tax on our apartment.

Also in section re Settlement what do we put in where it asks 210 Income from immovable property? Taxable base (04)?

In next section Tax rate Law IRNR% is this  1.1% or 24%?

Amount due IRNR (22-24) is that the final sum for each individual owner to pay?

In last section if we want to pay in the bank do we click 'To Deposit'

Hope someone can help as we are heading out to Spain next week and want to pay this tax as we will not get back out until April.

Many Thanks

I have filled in my Modelo 210 form on line but am now getting error saying that NIF is not valid. Says NIF should be 8numbers and 1 letter, ours are 2 letters and 8 numbers!!  I have tried leaving out the X at the beginning and the R at the end every combination and still coming back not valid? Help!!

I have clicked the box beside NIF and gone in to create non residents id code but when I enter details, it is saying that a taxpayer is already registered with these details!!!

Anyone know what to do?

Hi Tricia52,

I'm no authority on this at all, but I thought the standard format for NIE numbers was a letter followed by seven digits followed by a letter - ie 9 in all.  So you may have an extra number from somewhere.

Tricia

On my Social Security card they have added an extra '0' after the first letter, making a total of 10.   It is an error,   so if I used that number it would show as incorrect.

An NIE should look like this      X1234567C

Also you mention NIF.

You will not have an NIF but an NIE,  I have not yet done this year’s return for my Non-Resident son, but usually  on forms one is given choices NIF or NIE if you choose the wrong one it will show as incorrect.

Help please

So that I don't get this wrong.  Am I right in saying that when caluclating the tax for a property at Roda Golf (first valued in 2006) the caluclation is 2% of the catastral value,  and the tax is 24% of that figure?

Ines

As Norm says below:    It will be 1.1%  x  24% (i.e. valued after 1994)

Thanks for all you suggestions, but still not validating!!

It is asking for NIF not NIE, and no matter what way I input my NIE it is not recgonising. I think I might just fill it in and print off, take to the bank next week and see if we can do it from there? What is the difference between NIE and NIF is one for non resident and other for resident?

Thanks again, and other suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Tricia

Can I just ask is paying the non-resident tax just the tax you pay on your property or are there any other taxes to be paid ?

Thanks

Isabella

Isabella,

in most cases, yes just on the value of real estae you own in Spain. (not to be confused with town hall taxes i.e. IBI -- the rates--, the rubbish collection charge,  etc.,  which are in addition)

But if you have any other income here too, then you need to declare that too.

I still have not managed to get the website to recgonise our NIE numbers!!

I have typed in details and printed the forms off, am going to chance going to the bank during the week we are out and see if there is anything we can do with these forms and our stickers from previous years!!

Thanks to all for comments, will keep you posted.

Regards

Tricia
