The Reason

The Reason (to you from all your rescue dogs)
I would've died that day if not for you.
I would've given up on life if not for your kind eyes.
I would've used my teeth in fear if not for your gentle hands.
I would have left this life believing that all humans don't care
Believing there is no such thing as fur that isn't matted
skin that isn't flea bitten
good food and enough of it
beds to sleep on
someone to love me
to show me I deserve love just because I exist.
Your kind eyes, your loving smile, your gentle hands
Your big heart saved me...
You saved me from the terror of the pound,
Soothing away the memories of my old life.
You have taught me what it means to be loved.
I have seen you do the same for other dogs like me.
I have heard you ask yourself in times of despair
Why you do it
When there is no more money, no more room, no more homes
You open your heart a little bigger, stretch the money a little tighter
Make just a little more room...to save one more like me.
I tell you with the gratitude and love that shines in my eyes
In the best way I know how
Reminding you why you go on trying.
I am the reason
The dogs before me are the reason
As are the ones who come after.
Our lives would've been wasted, our love never given
We would die if not for you

Thursday, October 20, 2011
This news received from Esdaw.
Now the Spanish government are trying to introduce an animal 'protection' law. If it goes ahead, they will fine anybody found feeding stray dogs or cats. Strays will be able to be euthanised 3 days after entering a compound.
PACMA are organising a protest against this new law on Sunday, 23rd October in Madrid. If anyone is going, any associations protesting elsewhere, please be sure to let PACMA know.
Please SHARE far & wide!

Google translation:
Focus on opposition to the Animal Protection Act of Madrid
The animals will feel deceived and disappointed by the Animal Protection Act proposed by Esperanza Aguirre.
Therefore we demand a comprehensive policy for animal protection, to promote animal adoption, sterilization and management of cat colonies, which achieves the goal of 'Zero Sacrifice' in kennels as a way to end this vicious cycle of neglect, sale and slaughter of animals: Something is happening in the Community of Madrid.
This measure by contrast, can give rise to the sanctions of many anonymous people spend their time and resources to feed cat colonies, sterilizers, something that government should do.
It's time to require significant legal changes for animals. Join us in our call:
Sunday October 23, 2011
From 11.30 to 13.30
Plaza del Callao, Madrid
Download the poster here
All organizations wishing to join should write to madrid@pacma.es

Update on this
Galgos del Sol and Little Pod Foundation attended the protest last night in support of La Fortaleza. There was a lot of support for this protectora and we hope we made a difference today. GdS have agreed to take two galgo puppies.
Out of the 130 dogs needing rehoming 80 have been lucky, leaving 50 though.
The mum & her puppies are lucky, they've all gone to new homes. The mum went to Germany yesterday.
Photos of the protest.
IF YOU CAN HELP WITH HOMING ONE OF THE 50 DOGS STILL REQUIRING HOMES please contact Florentina
(Spanish) on 661 741 336 or via email at gakire@hotmail.es or by calling
Oscar who speaks English on 630 881 560 or via email at oscar@marmenor.eu You can visit their
Facebook page at Asociacion Protectora La Fortaleza Los Animales.
