Declan:

From Tina: "Let us tell you about this boy! Irene, a local lady, spotted him and called us. He was living on an industrial estate. The most famous shop was called Decathlon so he became DECLAN! We assessed his area and it was too open and would take too long to catch him so we decided on a tranquilizing dart with a licensed professional.

Antonio darted him successfully twice but he would not go down, the adrenalin kept him going! We decided to leave him for a few days to give him a rest and to not chase him away from his area. In the meantime we gave out our contact number to the locals who kept us informed on him. Monday we went back and found him but a few minutes later Jill (pictured here) our volunteer fell over on the rough land and broke her finger. Her finger was named THE DECLAN FINGER! We spent the rest of the afternoon in A&E. Check out the matching bandages!

Five hours later in the dark we got a call. A local man heard screaming and found Declan laying on the side of the road near to where he slept. He had been hit by a car. We'd just ordered a take away but dropped it all and rushed to scene. Antonio was also there helping. Declan was covered in his own blood and couldn't move. We thought he was going to die. The kids and I drove him an hour away to the trauma unit at San Vicente vet hospital. He was seen straight away and got the best care! There were no guarantees but if he made it through the night he had a good chance. The kids and I got home around 2am, exhausted but worth it. We love him already!

He had minor internal injuries. His leg is broken but it's the ulna so can't be operated on but luckily does not need to be in order to save the leg. He went into shock but made it though!

He's coming home Friday where we will love and care for him until one of you adopt him xxxx

Thank you for your support, donations and everything you have done to show Declan how much you love him xxxx

We can't do it without you and our wonderful vets at San Vicente xxxx

He's coming home everyone, he's coming home!"

Tina picked up the ashes of The Spices, the three puppies who died of Parvo recently.

Update on The Spices. Clove and her pup Cocoa are doing great. They will be leaving for the USA to Fast Friends Adoption Center soon where they will find lovely new homes. Here's Sharron, & Clove, the pups mum, she's tiny.

Cinnamon goes over Rainbow Bridge but Cocoa returns to GdS to Mumma, Clove
Tuesday, March 10, 2015

Much has been going on at GdS since I last blogged but you'll be wanting to hear about this after reading the previous two blog posts.

9th March

From Tina...."More heartache this morning as Cinnamon decided to leave us and join her brothers on the other side of the bridge. Please let there be more kindness that side than there is here. Please let all three find infinite love because here all they faced was misery. No soul should ever face so much suffering.

RIP Cinnamon, go get in the queue for your Poddie wings. Xx"

9th March

Below: From Tina..... Cocoa decided she couldn't leave mumma Clove all alone to grieve and she has made it through this awful disease.

Cocoa is coming home later today! Xx

10th March

DOGumentary featuring Cocoa being reunited with mum, Clove. Sadly Cinnamon, Cumin & Ginger were lost to Parvo.

In the clips of Clove & Cocoa seeing each other for the first time since Cocoa getting sick nothing has been speeded up... its all real time and one little Cocoa is slightly excited!

Parvo is EVIL
Thursday, March 5, 2015

4th March: Sad news, we've lost Cumin to Parvo!

From Tina ...  "As Cumin continued to go downhill we have had no choice but to send him over Rainbow Bridge. Cumin was rescued just last week with his brothers and sisters and mum Clove. They became The Spices. A few days after their rescue Ginger became sick followed by Cumin. The look in Clove's eyes as we took them away was a haunted one and it was that look that got me as Cumin took his last breathe knowing we can't take him home. It's never fair. Go find those poddie wings and fly. RIP Cumin xxxxx"

5th March: More sad news, Ginger has lost his fight too!

From Tina ...
"This morning Ginger lost his fight for life. We didn't get back in time to the vets to hold him tight as he passed. Last night he looked a bit brighter and we told him to please make it through but his little body just couldn't. He went to hold Cumin's paw so they could run over together. He wanted to be with his brother. RIP Ginger xx

Cinnamon and Cocoa have now been admitted to hospital... Clove, their mum, knows and as we had to take them away I couldn't help but feel her agony as now all her babies have gone. Let's hope we can bring Cinnamon and Cocoa home to her...it's heartbreaking."

Ginger and the other spices family
Monday, March 2, 2015

23/2

GdS stumbled across a family of baby podencos and mummy! Problem is they were scared and right by a busy road! It was dark but GdS rescued these four babies and their mumma. Mumma is very scared.

25/2
On the above date the little podenco family we rescued the other night were doing great... so great in fact that they have all been reserved for the USA.

1/3
One of the new podenco pups we picked up Monday has struck down sick! Poor baby boy. Let's hope he recovers quickly!

2/3
Terrible news here! The pod pups have come in with parvo...
Luckily as we have other puppies they were put in a different place as we can never be sure what they come in with. At the centre we will have quarantine areas where puppies will stay for 21 days untill we are sure they are not carrying this horrible disease that then goes on to kill others! For now we will fight for Ginger and the other Spices!

More about the sick Poddie pup in the video below.
