Galgos del Sol (Murcia) makes saving galgos in Spain a reality!

Tina, President of Galgos del Sol charity which rescues abused & abandoned galgos in the Murcia province has just had a call to say she is a finalist in the Coastrider Pride of Spain 2011 awards and she has been asked to do a TV interview on August 17th. She is overwhelmed.

 Tina can be seen with her galgo top centre in this poster. She is a truly remarkable young woman, a member of Eye On Spain too & passionate about galgos. She never stops working for her chosen cause & has ... with her wonderful team of volunteers ... rescued hundreds of galgos, & podencos too , most have been found loving homes in many countries due to her devotion & her connections with other galgo charities.

As a new way to raise money we now offer sponsorship packs. You can either choose to buy one as a birthday or xmas present or just as a sponsorship gift for a friend. You just need to send us £16 or 20 euros, tell us which dog, who for and an address, and a little pack will be popped in the post for you. Mateo (below) is waiting to come under the wings of Galgos del Sol.

He's such a beautiful galgo it wont be long before we find him a home but we need to fund his blood tests, castration, vaccines etc etc.
 

Jose (below) came under GdS after he was caught by one of our volunteers whilst out running.

He is currently in kennels waiting for his forever home.

Tina (below) is still receiving treatment for her extremely injured foot, the costs keep mounting. 

Her two pups ( Marlon & Timida below) had such bad worm infestations they have been to the vets 4 times already in just a few short weeks. 

Guapita (below) has had a big operation on her leg at Alicante's San Vincente hospital & has needed to be transported there & back a few times including this morning. Transport & tolls & her treatment cost us a lot.

Jim is not a podenco or a galgo but he must have seen us coming as he ran out in front of our car. He knew we would look after him, what a clever boy. We picked him up and brought him to the refuge.

Jim is approx 2yr old, fully vaccined and castrated. He is also clear for mediteranean diseases.

Jim has a really playful character with both people and dogs and really has a soft spot for children. He will make a wonderful companion. He can be a little timid with new people but once he gets to know you you will have a friend for life!

Jim has been with us about a year now, we can't understand why he is still here, he misses his playmates who have, one by one, left to go to their forever homes but Jim is still waiting, waiting desperately for his forever home.

These darlings were found yesterday in Pilar de Horadada & the wonderful Galgos del Sol charity Murcia has been asked to look after them. BUT money is at a premium, GdS has limited funds & has already promised to fund another galgo which makes two in 5 days. They want to help but, under such circumstance, are facing a dilemma as, without funds, they can't. The mum is exhausted & obviously needs attention for her back foot & they are all being looked at by the vet.

The vet and 112Carlota (another galgo charity) say they are certain they are pure galgos. At the moment the mum is having her blood tests done but they are in a really bad condition. The pups are about 6 weeks.

This is so sad to see. I will update when I have further news.
