Barry,
Good idea on the local rule for the rough. I can understand the comment about not wanting to disadvantage straight hitters but considering you can put the ball into the middle of the lake and be better off than missing the fairway by 2-3m I don't think it's too unfair. You still have to take a shot penalty.
On the downside I won't find nearly as many balls on my way around.
Good luck for Presidents Cup and thanks to all you guys for your work, really enjoyed my games in August.
Shane

Hi Barry,
Can highly recommend the Villiatana Hotel that is part of the golf complex in Benidorm for your trip. If you book on-line for the 4 star part you can get a twin or double room for about £90.00 (bit more for the 5 star wing). Been there for a stay for the last two years and well worth £45.00 each for bed/breakfast. Facilites first class & the breakfast spread is superb. Costs about 9 euros for a taxi in to town which shared between 2-4 passengers is 'next to nowt' !
Regards,

A change to local rule??? Very unfair for the straight hitters and low handicappers, more so in medal play. If you don't find your ball you should go back to where you played from. Rough is rough and is meant to penalise those in it, if you can't find your ball - back you go from where you played shot from. If you can find your ball - play it, if it takes 2,3,4 shots to get out then the rough has penalised you. That's golf, enjoy!
If you can't stay out of the rough and don't enjoy the course then play at an easier course there's one or two close by.

Hi Tim
My first thoughts were exactly the same as yours. The original rules of golf were hit your ball, find it, hit again until it is in the hole. I didn't want to change the rules of golf but we have a problem with slow play. We have many novice golfers who join the society and do hit the ball into unplayable positions (even if they find it!). This means that the good golfers spend 5 minutes in the rough looking for their partners ball (who will have no chance of scoring even if they find it).
By using the R & A ruling we can speed play up. If I see my ball disappear into the long grass my 1st thought is no score - get on with it! Using the lateral water hazard rule it penalises the player 1 shot and they are still in the rough (on a par 4 they will still be short of the green in 3. They are not going to threaten the good players for as prize.
Yes you may have a quick look for the ball (it may be playable) but if it is not visible take a drop and get on with it. No point looking around in the long grass for an unplayable ball if partners are agreed it is in the long grass.
Slow play is the pet hate of all golfers so why not use this rule?
Barry

Barry agree with your comments, doesn't worry me as I'm not a good golfer, I was thinking of the low handicappers.
Yes agreed after more thought, I don't like looking for balls in the long grass as much as the next player.
Cheers Barry see you in a few weeks.

Miserable party pooper on N4 eh ? Sad so & so .
Couldn't Kev & Cath carried out a quick survey of J12 residents then you could have had it in the nicest possible environment.on the resort.

Hi
I am in N4 Naranjos and whilst I wasnt bothered one way or the other about the party being in N4 I can appreciate people not wishing to have a number of people coming into the garden so i think any criticism is unjustified especially when the residents were only consulted a few days before the event and after the adverts went up in the supermarket.
Also before criticising you may also wonder why it wasnt moved to another garden (probably because other gardens did not wish to have it in their garden either) so I think the comment about there being a party pooper is unfounded when there were possibly other party poopers in other gardens as well.

Cath/Kevin
Hi
Maybe the consultation process was different this time I dont know?
I didnt want to start a big 'EOS' discussion as it it now gone just felt it was a bit unfair someone having a go when possibly not in possession of all the facts.
As you are both on the golf committee you can tell us why was it not switched to another garden once N4 was out of the frame?
Cheers

Paul,
Agree on consulation. Usually people just have parties and not tell anyone, this time they made the errort to inform the other owners on the garden in advance, who were all invited, guess the answer is to keep it quiet in the future?
Agree, it is a bit unfair of you to have a go when not in possession of all the facts.
This was Graham White's party so obviously he wanted it in his garden, just like he did last year. There is no difference between this party and the many others that have gone on before ( some in N4 ), only this time people were informed in advance and so someone complained.

OK,
Can agree that as someone who is not party to 'all the facts' I can't possibly know why the said objection may have been raised. What I do know is that there are a certain group of people on Condado who make a lot of effort to improve the atmosphere on the complex for the benefit of all. For heavens sake, we are talking about a sensible group of community golfers and residents here not some bunch of 'fuelled up' yobbos ! If we want Condado to trundle along with the atmosphere of a ghost town just add your name to the small minority of objectors and we will do away with community spirit altogether.
Looking forward to coming back over and sharing some social time with people who are willing to 'get a life'. See you soon Cath, Kev, Phil, Barry & the gang. Keep up the good work.
Regards,
