Edit this post The Viking Cup was played as a Non Society Challenge event so by definitio No Society funds were made available. Out of the 2 Euro entry, a sum of money was paid to one of our Norwegian friends for buying and bringing the trophies from Norway, a sum of money was usedt give everyone playing a drink as they came off the last green and what was left was given to buy raffle prizes for the presentation night. Every Euro was spent to the benefit of the particpants Fridays comp was a combined competition to include Senior players who played for thier own trophy donated by two of our Society members, as well as the weekly sweep where every player had a chance to win. No sweep money was paid out to winners of Seniors prizes although they could, and did win in the weekly sweep. The value of the sweep was 153Euro ( why the odd number I do not know, maybe Slicer did not pay full amount!) There was a ladies division which included 10 players so 20 Euro was paid out to the first and second. The balance (133euro) was split between mens first and second divisions where the first four places in each division collected 30, 20, 10 and 6 euro respectively. This should clarify what the sweep money was used for. If Slicer was plying and not in the prizes it may have something to do with his pseudonym. Can I suggest he changes his sport to a one that involves throwing, therefore he can change his name to something more appropriate!! _______________________ Jardines One, and happy. Spam post? Can I echo all comments about the first class job the committee do...as much as a fantastic way to play the course, it's a great way to meet fellow owners and share a 19th hole beer I'm starting to worry...I played in the Viking cup and in Fridays comp..and I occasionally slice it...especially on the 4th and 5th...to eliminate myself from enquiries, I played with Graham on Friday and didn't qualify for the seniors...come on Slicer...as Delia Smith would say " WHO ARE YOU????"

I hope Dave's explanation will clarify the matter so we can put this post to bed.
Slicer did not deserve a reply but just in case anyone reading it thought there may be some truth in it I can assure everyone that Dave's summary of the financial aspect of the Viking Cup is exactly right.
When Dave thought that the players drinks may run out on the 18th he went home and emptied his fridge of beer etc and made sure no one went without.

Barry, Graham, Kev and all others involved in the society,
Please do not let this character (slicer, loser , tosser, or whatever he calls himself) throw a hand granade in to the mix just to upset you guy's.
I like the hundreds of others who do not get out as much as we would like, always look forward to the society days where we are made to feel like long lost friends and can play affordable golf meeting new people and making many friends. The society is more than just golf, it is a key pulse of the whole Condado community and this is testimony to you guy's.
Well done and thank you
Tony

Hi all, i agree with Tony, don't let this slicer guy get the better of anybody, i've met most of you and you all do a great job for the community as a whole. We are friendly with Dave and Kim and they are two of the most honest people we have met, keep up the good work and don't let idiots try to spoil things.
Chris.

Although Slicers comments have been removed I can have a guess at what he said and maybe he does have a point.
I do pay a hefty €5/year and a significant €2 per competition and only get:
- organised competitions
- social events
- good fun
- new friends
- spot prize for playing cr*p
- cheap green fees
I couldn't care less if society money was used for the Viking Cup, the Celtic Cup, the European challenge or any other cup played for by Society members.
Barry and the crew do an amazing job and I don't think there is even the slightest chance of them misspending my hefty membership fee of €5.

Just wanted to echo Tony and SMV's comments
The society is an integral part of our community and as nice as our resort and golf course is, it just would not be same without it. So once again a massive thanks to Barry, Graham, Kevin, Cath, Phil and the sponsors and anyone else who is involved. Keep up the excellent work it really is appreciated.
We love it and look forward to hooking up with you all soon

Thanks to all who have posted such supportive comments. This was the first ever negative post we have seen and it looks like it has been withdrawn after explanations have been given.
Don't really want to see slicer on here again but an apology would be appreciated.
Barry
