Information for golfers (and owners)
Myself and Graham were yesterday invited to a meeting with the director of golf sales Alfredo Caparros from Olagolf. He is looking at ways to stimulate the use of the course at Condado and we shared ideas. He was impressed with the numbers and quality of players on the membership list, and the society website (which had 665 viewings on 17th July alone).
He believes the society will be the key to promoting the signature course and gave us the following information.
Prices have been reviewed as there is a lot of competition out there for golfers disposable income.
He would like us to promote cooperation between societies (e.g Mar Menor and Condado) with society price applying to both courses - our society can play at Mar Menor for same price as at Condado and vice versa).
He has reduced our discounted price to 30 euros so we would play 30 at Mar Menor if it was under society banner.
Likewise we can form links with other societies (Camposol, La Torre, Salud etc) where we can have an active involvement in promoting the course and attracting players.
Other pricing incentives will come in (50 euros to non residents and a price somewhere in between for residents not with society).
Other offers may be 90 euros for 2 with buggy or 160 euros for 4 with buggies.
From today I believe twilight rate is from 13.00 not 15.00 hrs.
I asked about 1, 3 or 6 months memberships which was positively received.
We asked if clubhouse would be ready for October and he said he thought it would be before that. He has seen the plans and although it is temporary it is very good with changing rooms, showers, restaurant and 2 bars ( one for public and one for society and members). His boss arrived from Madrid later in the day (he is in charge of the clubhouse installation) and I saw him in the shop with the clubhouse plans in his hand. Alfredo will email me the plan when he gets it.
Obviously the banks want a return on their investment and are making great efforts to tidy up the course and maintain it to the highest standard. Along with facilities by the 1st tee the complex will then be attractive to societies, golf parties etc.
Olagolf aim to provide an alternative service to the Clover where golfers are disregarded by Polaris with the only bar opening at 3pm, high prices, no cushions and poor service (all me comments not his!)
Buggy hire will now be more attractive with players allowed the 90 degree rule - drive on the path until opposite the ball then drive across to it).
Olagolf are doing their best to give us the course and facilities we crave so the society will do everything possible to make it work.
Golfers please note we are having a captains day competition on Saturday (not Friday) August 14th. There will be an entry fee of 5 euros plus the 30 euro green fee. Lots of prizes will be available e.g. 1st division, 2nd division, ladies, nearest pin, longest drive, 2's comp etc. We have some sponsors for prizes but more donations would be very welcome.
Afterwards we will present the prizes at the Clover and hopefully players and partners will party into the night! Obviously all welcome players or otherwise.
Anyone who will be here on the 14th please let us know ASAP if you can play so we know how many tee times to reserve.
Also any non-players who would like to help in any way collecting entry fees, handing out/collecting cards, setting out prizes, measuring nearest pin, taking photos etc please contact me at www.barrybarker90@yahoo.co.uk
