There will be at least 12 people we know of who will get electricity tomorrow according to Sevillana. We are busy organizing to get those last minute keys from lawyers.
Regarding the tiling of the terraces: just check if you have this clause in your contract:
"‘2 Y adémas, en la zona de jardin de las viviendas ubicadas en planta semisotano, se prohibe su modificatión, es decir, no se podrá cerrar dicha zona, ni con vallas altas, tejado, etcétera, ni de niunguna otra forma ni tampoco solar encimar del jardin'’
If you have this you are forbidden to tile it (or raise the fence, put a roof on it etc). The community of owners could decide to overrule that but until that moment it would be illegal and you can be forced to remove it.
Please read your contracts and let me know if it's there. (only for the semi-sotanos).

¡Esta semana hemos comprado una lavavajilla!
Try to pronounce the last word correctly if you are studying Spanish. Your tongue will go all over the place as it's really difficult.
We are moving in today! So if you never hear from me the well prepared solution for temporary internet access has failed us and you will have to fly over for news :)

Well a few days after finally moving in we still lack a lot of basic functionalities. No elevator, no automatic garage doors, no television signal and not all street lights are working. Oh, and the house is by now unusable thanks to the 100+ boxes we forgot all about it because they were stored in the Netherlands for over a year.
Too busy with work to do much unpacking so it's more like a labyrinth than a homely feel, but we're still happy that we're finally here. It's a lovely place, it is very silent, almost eery, but we feel secure thanks to the nice vigilante who keeps watch.
Unfortunately we don't have the unlimited internet access we used to have. Our provisional solution is working but it's very slow and quite expensive. For those of you waiting for answers to e-mail: rest assured we'll catch up in the coming days.

Just wanted to say hello to Rene, Dennis & Denise and Willie, more of our new neighbours, all very friendly people. Thanks again to Denise when my mum was locked out, and to Willie for fitting all of my lights. The development is very very quiet, and we have a security guard who never sleeps. Whenever I was there, morning noon or night, he was there, unless he has a twin brother he shares shifts with.
Hi Eoin & Lorraine
I have just read your post from 2nd October. We flew out that morning, and have been to busy sorting out the apartment since. We can meet on the 31st December. PM me with your apartment and contact number and I will get back to you.

Hi Janmet,
Just read your post looking for someone to fit your shower screen. I was in Spain last week signing and my friend who lives there for 10 years gave me the name of this man who can do everything He is fitting my lights putting up the curtain poles, fitting my shower screens and changing my small tray and putting in a big cornor shower, he is putting up all the toilet roll holders and towel rails etc. also i am so impressed with him as we have no electricity he has gone on working with a battery drill.
He is very reasonable worth getting in my eyes, Also he is English living in Spain
His name is Gordon Trimby
His Phone number is( 0034) 680915889

Hi Janmet,
I was only there for the weekend and by the time I signed 5 hours later, and bought the lights and pots and pans and delph etc i did not have time to look at showers so he said he would buy what we need and give us the recipts and we will pay him when he is finished.
But there is a big complex of shops just past the big dunnes. In there is an electrial shop and a place like B&Q, furniture shop, phone shop etc I dont know the name of it. Maybe some ome else will.

I think it's called Parque Miramar as opposed to the Miramar shopping centre which is further on in the opposite direction. In Parque Miramar you will find Boulanger, a big electrical shop, AKI which is a big DIY place and other shops.

Aki is where we did a lot of of our shopping , they are also very helpfull. We bought all our bathroom fittings , lights, shelves pictures, lamps etc here. There is also a very good tool shop next to dunnes which has most tools screws, fittings etc.
My husband is a jack of all trades and has brought over a suitcase full of tools and also has his battery operated drill which was very usefull due to the fact we had no electricity. When we are over in november if any one needs his services he is available just let us know.
Hopefully when we move over permanently this is the line of work he will be doing.

Hi all,
I won't comment on the pool / DJ I versus DJ II issue as this is too complicated for the chit-chat area. But some of the other questions I can answer.
So far you are allowed to barbecue on your terrace/balcony. There is not only AKI, but also Leroy Merlin and Bauhaus. Between the three of these DIY stores you can find almost anything. Shower trays and curtains are for sale in these three stores.
If you want to have them fitted you could go to the shop, select what you want and contact us to actually deliver and install them at your place. If it doesn’t matter to you just tell us what you want and we will take care of it. Same goes for most of the other small jobs. In our case you will get a proper invoice as we are a registered and insured Spanish company. If you want to let it out it’s important that you can show the Spanish tax man your costs as you will have to pay over your rental income.
Some of the smaller jobs like fitting lights, shower curtains, safes, etc I will do myself, being an experienced DIY guy and for more specialized jobs like polishing your floor (very important!), doing your garden etc. we will hire someone and supervise the work.
If you want to buy a shower (or bath) curtain be aware that they come in different heights. To avoid ending up with a flooded bathroom it’s best to buy the more expensive higher ones. The Spanish are mostly quite short so their basic offer is usually not high enough for the taller Northern-Europeans.
On a general note the site is slowly coming to life. More and more people are completing and start moving in. The number of residents is still very low however. Lots of Spanish have bought in Don Juan to use it as a holiday home. It’s still too early to know if the majority will be Spanish or British.
There is some work going on fixing the snags and workmen are busy working at the elevators and the drainage system. I guess it will take at least a few month more before the place is really liveable.

Hi All
Hate to tell everyone this news but our apartment had an attempted break in last night ( Wed) My friend rang and told me that the door was tried with a bar there is all marks on the front door. Luckly they did not get in as the four locks were on.

Really sorry to hear your news. I have always felt the lack of security, ie the low wall on the ground floor, was going to leave the front doors on all floors vulnerable to attack. I guess the fact that there aren't many residents around yet also leaves the development an easy target. Let's hope they were just opportunists and don't return. Michelle
