Hi Max
Having spent quite a bit of time there in Dec / Jan over the past few years i know what you mean about the cold nights. I think because of the way property is constructed on the coast i.e. to withstand heat' i think in winter it is actually warmer outside then inside most apartments.
However i do find some air con heat system better then others, all the apartments i have stayed in which have had a fully ducted system i tend to find to be more then adequate in terms of efficiency and noise but those apartment with individual units i.e. wall mount and external compressor i find to be less so, still probably not the most cost effective way heat i suppose.

Hi RG,
You're right that with an integrated airco you don't have that much draught, but as we don't have the ducts in place, most of us will probably settle for the wall mount units. We should move this discussion to the airco thread if we want to continue it as it's quite relevant for all potential airco buyers.

Today we walked along the beach, the sun was shining and dressed in a T-shirt we still found it quite warm!
Tomorrow night we will be on the main square of Fuengirola drinking champaign at midnight with the Spanish.
So to be sure we don't forget it:
We wish you all a very happy 2007!!!

Hi all ,
First I wish you all a happy new year. I have just got back from my 1.700 mile drive from Spain ,I have put a load of new pics in the photo section. D J is looking good and the only thing I can see that isnt finished is the road. Not to sure about the tunnel as no work has started on that yet. I have just put all my new furniture in my mums garage in Mijas (what a drive) .

Hi Pearce
It was about £800 for the Ferry ,Toll And fuel for the return trip. I had a great time and would recommend it to anyone. The roads and traffic in Spain and France was fantastic, not a single hold up not even through Paris or Madrid. It was a lot easier than I was led to believe.

Happy New Year everyone - and Andy, thanks for the info about your journey. It has certainly given us food for thought as we plan on buying here, but were yet undecided on how to make the 'transfer' over to Spain. Loved looking at all your photos too, can't wait to get over ourselves, we've planned a trip during half term at the begining of Feb.

There is a discussion going on under Infrastructure about difficult access to blocks 1 & 2 in phase 1 & 2. We are in phase 1 block 6. It occurs to me that we along with anyone in block 5 will have to walk all the way to the top of the hill with phase 2 on our left then down through phase 1 to the bottom again to get to our apartment. In 35degree heat after a day on the beech this is not a very attractive prospect. It would be nice if we could walk up the bank and accross the bottom of the site and into our homes - which we could if it wasn't for the never ending green fences!!

Can anyone give me an idea of what sort of hourly rate a childminder would get in the Fuengirola/Costa Del Sol area. Is there any demand for this sort of work there. A friend of mine is a registered childminder here in the UK and is looking at the option of moving to Fuengirola. Cheers Westport

Hi Westport
Dont know about childminding but from what i have seen of other trades i would say whatever the rate is in the UK you would be looking at approximately the same but in Euros i.e. if the rate in Uk is £10 per hour you will looking at approx £10 euros per hour give or take.
As for demand i think that there will be demand for all sorts of trade due to the continued expansion of the coast it is a fast developing place!

administracion@arrohabitatge.com should do the trick.
We shouldn't complain to much about Don Juan. We've got friends who bought in Almonzora Country Club near Almeria in 2005. The building licence was overturned by the Junta early last year and work has been stopped ever since. Latest estimates are that it could be October before any work is done and even then no one knows how many of the original planned properties will be allowed to be built. No one has managed to get their money back and they keep being told optimistic stories by Parador (who seem to have sold most to UK buyers) and Huma the builder.
I've also looked at another property being bought by a friend on EOS and it has one thread with one message and 1 reply last November! Compare that to our thriving virtual community. See you all soon

It's suddenly quite cold over here. The last few days the wind was quite chilly and today we had a real storm. Not as cold as the beginning of the week, but quite spectacular. The sea reached the boulevard on some points and several beach restaurants got quite wet. I actually got swept away by the fierce wind and had to hold on to a sign post! We are travelling to Fuengirola on 5th March until 13th March. We have bought in Don Juan 1 Block 3 and would like to meet fellow owners for a general chat and perhaps a beer, sangria or coffee. Any one interested please get in touch.

Hello all, I've just driven up the newly tarmaced road and onto the site for the first time in my car, it at last feels complete for us in Don Juan 1. As I was up there a rather large 4X4 approached me and a guy got out and asked what I was up to on the site, I expained to him (in my limited Spanish ) that I was a soon to be owner. He then anounced to me that he was the actual 'Don Juan' I was a little taken aback to be meeting the promoter, after re- gaining my compsure I flooded him with questions. He said that the grass is starting to be laid Monday/Tuesday and is turf not seed (he was then muttering about the extra cost of this. He said that the train work at the bottom of the hill is done, and the road will be finished next week. He said mid-april is when we can expect to be moving in, lets hope all this happens in the coming days and weeks---hope to be meeting you all soon bye for now from a very sunny Fuegirola MARTIN

Hi Martin, I have had run in with this 'promoter guy' on a couple of occasions before not the friendliest of guys, he usually orders us off the site and tells us to come back with Perla from the office! so i think you have done well to actually get him to answer some questions.

Hi
We also drove up to the site on the 11th and were confronted by the owner. He was really okay and was happy to let us look around. He must be feeling happier the completion is nearer.
