The situation regarding wifi is complex and as I can't tell the full story on EOS I prefer not to post about it at all.
Thank you for the information on the road. I hope you are right! However the same story was covered in Sur and it's interpretation was far more negative. I think it is a bit early to crack open the champagne.

Hi David, you´re not required to post that you won´t post. Lots of people unfortunaly don´t share their knowledge here, I think I explained it quite well in a nutshell. I would say I know the ins- and outs of the Wifi market situation in the Don Juan´s quite well.
could you point me to an article in the Sur (or do you mean the Sur in English) with the information. The most recent article I have been aware of is the one I linked, but I would love to read a differrent analysis. Did they not agree with the license being provided? If so on what grounds? If the counsellor of intra structure is happy to state so in public I am inclined to believe her. It would backfire enormously if she made these precise statements without a fundament.
Could your source be older?
Max.

I was refering to an article in last week's (Spanish) Sur. This week's came out today and it has an update with the quote from Ana Mula you refer to. It does indeed sound promising but she made a firm promise to us last year which she was unable to fulfil so let's not get to excited until the work actually starts.

Hi David,
But at that time she didn´t have the support of the ministry in Madrid which has an enormous cloud while the Junta de Andalucia nor the tiny Fuengirola has anything to say over ADIF which is a monstruously large company.
Everybody has the right to be pessimistic, but I, for the first time I must add, believe that the problem finally will be sorted and befor the rain season starts.

Thanks for the info about developments in relation to the road Max.
However I am confused after reading your post about WiFi Internet availability in Don Juan. Are you saying that the WiFi Connect service is no longer available or if it is, the signal has disimproved so much that the service is more or less useless now?
If this is the case is Rednet the best now available for people in Don Juan?

Hi Gericom,
Regarding the Wifi Connect signal / the Y-internet services I can only say that we are not happy with the effective speed and uptime and that it detoriated over time. As we see boasters popping up all over the place we are not the only ones with that experiences. Even block ten currently needs a -paid- boaster nowadays while this was not needed in other years.
We don´t need a boaster ourselves. I have a signal analyzer telling me that the strength of the signal seems fine at most places however we ourselves experience lots of drops in connection and a very limited bandwith. Even when we use hi gain antennas this doesn´t make a difference. So for us it´s not sufficient.
After tests and talks with all available providers we have chosen to go with Rednet and we now have an effective stable bandwith we only experienced in the first half year of VIP: Excellent, while we have only a 2 Mbit connection as more is impossible in our area whatever companies offer if you expect it to be reliable. We can do more than we ever could in Don Juan.
This high level of effective service is due to the low ratio between what they sell and what they have as a backbone. These ratios are rarely made public, but are more informative than all other specifications or promo material. If you have an 8 mbits connection as your companies backbone (a certain competitor in our area) and you sell eight hundred 1 mbits connections on the Costa you have a ratio of 800:1 which means your user experience is zero. So the lower the ratio the better connection you have and this determines the real price and value of your connection.
Your mileage may of course differ. It all depends on the usage pattern. If you only want to get your email once a day everything will work, but we are heavy users and dependant on internet.
Hope this helps,
Max.

We were looking for replacement duvet covers etc. and thought we'd have to buy them at home and bring them out as the selection we'd seen in Spain was poor. We were recommended to try the Yorkshire Linen Company and got what we wanted. If you are looking for soft furnishings it's worth a visit. From Carvajal direction pass the Miramar shopping centre where Iceland is (on your right) then turn right at the next roundabout and it is on the left hand side.

Don't know how many of you realise that Argos now has Argos- Spain and will (according to their website) deliver anywhere in Spain for €9:95. They don't carry the full Argos range and don't sell large electrical items or gas barbeques (which we wanted!!). I realise that their quality is a bit hit and miss but it's a lot cheaper than the local equivalent.

Amazon are even better. They deliver a lot of their stuff free. Check before ordering conditions of postage. So many things are a rip off now. I was looking for cushions for a sun lounger. Best price I found, € 30. Found better quality ones on Amazon £9.99, one third of the price in Spain.

Hi Dermot,
At the moment Irma is only at the cabin on Thursdays between 5 & 7 PM. If that doesn't suit let me know and we'll try and make an alternative arrangement.

Some people will be aware that there have been several false dawns at Rossini’s Sports Bar on the front since JJ passed away.
There are now 2 young couples running it. They are professional but friendly. The bar is clean and the seats comfy. The food (light meals only) and drink is good and the prices very attractive.
I have my own selfish reason for posting this - I think Carvajal needs a bar like this so I’d like it to succeed. To do so it needs customers so please try it – I don’t think you’ll be disappointed
