IT´S A MIRACLE !!!!!!!
They are back in force today with large machinery removing earth by large lorries. Numerous workers and officials on site. It looks like the big dig has finally started. Lets hope it does not take as long as the one in Boston.

Hi Westport
New pictures uploaded
looks like they are sorting out the drainage first. The spoil they are removing is being taken and dumped up through our development and dumped at the side of the new road at the back!

I was telling Irma about the road about a week ago, but have not been online since to update what is going on. I spoke with the 3 people in charge on the road last week as they were studying the architects drawings. I was told the road would take 3 months, and that telefonica will be installing their cables, but at this stage will not be connected up with us, maybe later. On both sides of the roads will be footpaths and parking along it, and the 2 way road running between it. They could not tell me if there will be meters for parking here. The big pipe you see in the pictures will be removed and new storm drains put in. The bad news is, they are not doing under the railway bridge down to the main road, though the town hall architect has this but will it get done is another thing. I have asked Irma to request the townhall to either put a roundabout at the traffic lights at the bottom of the hill or a fliter light to turn left coming from the direction of Fuengirola, so that it will put a stop to these scumbag taxi drivers charging an extra 3 euro to go to the next roundabout under the Benalmadena zone sign to come back on yourself and another 2 euro to take you up the hill because the road is not fixed. I will stick more photos on next week.

If you are ever overcharge in a taxi going to don juan you inform the Town hall with the taxi reg and licence number and it gets passed to the police and they will be charged and they will loose there licence as i reported one cab driver Irene

Hi.
My in-laws will be arriving late at Don Juan by taxi, can the roadway under construction be driven over?. from the photos it looks like you can pass on foot but not in a car.
Thanks Bevron.

Hi Bevron
The road was opened at all times though this may change. I doubt they will close it completely. If they are coming from the airport it's quicker going the A7 motorway exit at 217 ( Benalmadena / Mijas ) then drive to the El Higueron restaurant, and drop down the road beside it bringing you straight into Don Juan. Every taxi driver will know the restaurant. If you need a bit more direction, pm me.

Hi Bevron
the road is passable, if you look to the right of Den's photos there is a very bumpy dusty road, very bumpy!! Even a mini roundabout manned by a smily worker!!

Preparatory work on the road is continuing at a steady but not spectacular pace. They have dug a deep trench and are putting in new pipes and building manholes.
They have dug up part of what was the temporary road but before doing so filled in part of the trench providing a new route out of DJ. This is encouraging as they seem to be going to quite a lot of work to maintain vehicle access as the work progresses.

There's been no work on the road these past 2 days due to the May Day holiday but I've put a few photos up of what it looks like today. There is a big water main being replaced plus new drainage pipes. All of the work is currently concentrated between the station and the bridge. They have installed a water supply and have a total of 3 huts\portacabins so seem to be expecting to be around for a while.
The road remains passable and people have started parking again on the bit they've not dug up.
Train fares have just gone up mostly by 20c a ticket.
