Most of them do this unless you hire for 3 days or less. You might be able to do it with Hertz. I recently booked a car with Hertz in Ireland. They had no problem with me bringing it back full, although there is a catch if you book with Hertz from the Ryanair link. Their terms and conditions are different, and you cannot do this. Another clever move by Michael O'leary. Another tip is the cheapest ones like Aurigo Crown and Goldcar have huge queues especially during the school holidays. I have waited on average 60-90 minutes at Malaga, it's a nightmare. Could be worth paying a few quid extra just to get out of the place. We are all getting ripped off at the moment with the cost of car hire. The excuse they say, is the banks will not give them money to renew or expand their fleets. If you won't use the car that often it may work out much cheaper getting a few taxis.

I had to arrange a car for a client recently for Saturday 16 april, picking it up at 12 o clock until Sunday 25 april with a late return ( a typical owners visit using all the weekend space. The price was 155 Euro´s. It was the cheapest company I could find, but with good conditions. Unlimited mileage, fully ensured, etc.
It was an Peugeot 107 or similar. The fuel policy is that you pay for a full tank at the airport and bring it back empty. You won´t a refund if there is still some fuel in the car, but with a bit smart tanking you won´t waste much.
I´m clueless about the Hertz / Ryan air prices. Westport, do you know what a typical 9 days Friday to Sunday 10 days would cost?

Waiting for 60/90 minutes at a car hire desk as Westport says is a real bummer when you just want to get to your apartment. It is worth considering getting the train to Don Juan and picking up a car the next day in Fuengirola from one of the local companies. They are generally competitive but with limited stock may be fully booked over Easter.

To Gericom about that suspicious e-mail:
I went to that website/blog and it was still anonymous. There was one follower listed so I clicked on his name to see it was someone I knew. Well, that turned out the case: it were Max and Saskia already listed as followers. This was my first visit to that website so it must be someone who knows me and wife´s name. That made me really suspicious so I have send the following e-mail as a reply on the unknown invitor:
Hi,
We would like to follow this blog and contribute to it. Apparently you know us as we are already listed as followers while we never saw it before. That amazes us.
Could you make clear who is the sender of the e-mail, because if you know us and put us on as followers we would to know identity as well.
We are in full support by the intentions of the platform and have to get Ana Mula to actually fullfill her promises. I think I know some ways to put real pressure on her We already have an appointment with the town hall architect, but the real pressure should come from someone else. If you reveal your identity I will see what I want to share by blog or by private mail in some cases.
BTW: posting on the blog gives an error!

I did that on Saturday and still have no answer so it seems like some phishing for e-mail addresses, which were maybe stolen from Gics list of Don Juan (or maybe all the communities they manage). I see that Westport thinks it´s genuine, but I don´t see how he figured that out and how I could be already a follower without visiting ever before.
For now I would say avoid it.

CARVAJAL NEIGHBORHOOD PLATFORM Has been set up by our administrator.
We were advised by the town hall to form an umbrella group (to include phases 2 & 3, El Higeron, Arrohabitatge, individual neighbours and any other interested party) to lobby for a solution for the road by the railway. This is all good.
The execution however has been confusing. The e-mails were unclear and the website, while a good idea will not acheive anything if it doesn't function properly. There is clearly some work to be done to get this right.
Maximo did reply to Max but as he does not seem to have received the message this is what it said:
Dear Max:
At the last meeting of neighbors, we inform the attendees of this platform, created from the Community of Don Juan phase 1, for the entire development as a means of pressure against the various injustices. This comes in the minutes.
Was approved by all participants send information to the report, but unfortunately did not give us time to realize the ends with the lawyer and other technicians consulted now.
At no time did we have tried to bother you or anyone, in fact, this is an altruistic work we do from personnel administration and legal staff of the community.
If you wish, immediately wipe data from our contacts, but again this is a good for all and without ninguún economic interest.

Okay David, that´s good to hear.
So the e-mail is genuine and I do know who max2 is so I wouldn´t be concerned if he really had send me that answer, but he never did. Maximo knows me very well and he knows how to email me. But he did not. I got plenty of emails through the accounts know to him between Saturday and tonight, but nothing from gics nor his private mail address which I know as well.
If you say he e-mailed me, how do you know what the contents are? You know my email address as well and if you received a copy than you must be able to tell me when and to which address he claims to have send it. That assumed email which you got doesn´t answer any of my questions and remarks so maybe you´re confused with some other max. Maximp would never tell me something about the meeting or whatever as he knows of course that I attended. It´s must have been addressed to some other Max as this standard answer makes no sense at all if he knew he was answering me.
It seems like a major mess up with an anonymous email and a blog which also doesn´t mention Don Juan, no announcement for someone identiable, no mention of it on EOS, no possibility to post there and my and Saskia´s name prelisted. (I noticed this was solved now)
Please explain why it´s done this way and how it can be that you receive mails I don´t get which clearly were not an answer to my questions.

I agree it's a total mess up. The point at this stage is there is nothing to worry about. Hopefully Maximo will get it sorted and we can all add our support to the campaign.

I offered my support to that anonymous sender so I agree that it´s important that it gets sorted out.. However you didn´t explain how you know of an e-mail to me. I think that it was sent to someone else and that makes me hesitant so participate. If my private e-mails get answered to you and an unknown other person I feel less confident in contributing and certainly with sensitive information.
Could you forward me the whole e-mail from Maximo you received as an attachment. You have my address.
A good community portal should be working properly, managed correctly, and there must be absolute confidence in e-mails and blog posts to be trusted. If he send out random answers to random e-mail address it won´t take long before unwanted people from outside Don Juan are participating or just be silent readers!

We got ours at Servicio Oficial Teka Calle de Alhucemas, 6, 29003 Malaga, Spain 952 23 14 07. Having no idea where it was we took the train to Malaga and just gave the address to a taxi driver. The taxi was more
than the tray. Measure the size before you go as there is more than 1 available.
The weather here is terrible so you're not missing much

i have family and friends staying in my apartment in don juan stranded because of volcano.if you have any information on any other way of getting out of malaga for these people they are going to dublin there is eight of them i would be grateful.

If it is nearly over happy days! There are a lot of people in Fuengirola wanting to go home. Dermot the charter companies are discussing getting coaches and you may be able to buy a place on one of their coaches.
As an alternative there are a couple of guys organising coaches home. I have met them but can't vouch for them (I'm pretty sure they don't have ABTA numbers!) although they seem nice enough. They are organising coaches and charging 200€ a trip. If you are interested contact Jason or Gary 0034 619882657 0034 615782417. I imagine they will get you to Dover but you're family friends will still have to get from there to Dublin.
The trouble is even if the ash clears the flights are fully booked for 10days at least.

With some people not having got here in the first place and others having travelled home by alternative means there are seats available on apparently full flights. Easyjet at least are doing their best to fill these seats with stranded passengers. Some neighbours who had been given a flight for 28th went to the airport early this morning and are now home!
I am not trying to start a stampede for the airport but it may be worth trying!

It was me that was due to fly back on the 28th. I got a text yesterday from Easyjet with a passcode to reply to them and include my surname and booking reference to transfer me to a flight today to Stansted. I got no reply, so Davmunster helped me out and checked online late last night to see if they had changed it. Not only had they not changed it, but my flight on the 28th had been disrupted and had to be changed which would have probably meant staying till May, so I decided to head for the Airport this morning early. They were giving out tickets with an arrival airport and flight number of your choice, and were put in queues to the side of the chheck in desk.. We were given numbers 6 and 7 for the second Gatwick flight at lunchtime, but I decided to stick around and joined the back of the queue for the 10.10am Gatwick flight. I did not think I had much of a chance as the people in front of me were standby numbers 38 and 39, but as luck has it, we all got on. The Liverpool standby was very busy and they were not giving out any more tickkets, even though there was another flight late in the afternoon. Some of them ended up getting the Gatwick one then hiring a car. So if you are looking to get back, get to the Airport early, and go for Gatwick. I have to say one thing Easyjet were very organised for once. Within an hour of getting to the Airport, we were on a plane.

I also had problems trying to rebook my flyt home with Easyjet on line for the past 2 days after it was cancelled on Monday.I went to the airport early to see could they rebook my flyt and they did give us a free transfer.I was also told some airlines where asking people for any think up to £100 per person extra to get you home.Easyjet where great and i was only there for 10 minutes,also everyone now has to check in for there flyt even if you have a boarding ticket Irene

I saw in Irene's message that you now have to check in even though you have done it on line. I was wondering if that is just temporary to get the people home and will it revert to normal when the crowds are cleared?
Has the weather improved? I am going out next week so am looking forward to lots of sun (I hope).
