Hi everyone in Don Juan 1,

Can I ask a question?  Are we particularly unlucky in Don Juan or do lots of developments have these  initial problems?

Are you still happy to have bought there or would you opt out if you could.  We are in 11 and have been really looking for ward to spending time there.  Now we are beginning to wonder if it is wise to go ahead.  We  are very confused and would appreciate any honest opinions

Rosegreen

Hi Rosegreen, Developments we have seen have or had problems, and waiting for licences is a Spanish "Custom" but a few negative write ups in these columns should not put you off . Having looked at 50 to 60 properties, over a period of 5 to 6 years' in Italy and Spain (Costa Blanca to the Costa Del Sol)  we wanted  a good apartment or town house, near the sea and convenient for Airport, railway and bus links. The apartment at Don Juan met that criteria with a station and beach within a short distance, and not far along the sea front to Fuengirola. It is in my opion a wonderful layout and concept, but like a lot of new builds it has some building problems, which hopefully will soon be rectified. Also some very good neigbours.

Rosegreen I know what your saying and it has been a rocky road getting Don juan 1 sorted out. I bought my apartment in 2004 and it has taken ages but after staying in it for a week a few months ago I think it was worth the wait. Im sure all the little problems will be sorted out soon and Don Juan 11 will be sorted too. I love the place to be honest and wouldnt want to be anywhere else on the coast. My wife and son feel the same and all in all it is a great location.

Andy

Hi Rosegreen,

We do have a worse developer than most but I agree with Andy and Ken. We love the place, have no regrets and everything will get sorted out eventually.

Eventually is the operative word though, the Sky deal is agreed but was not available in Spanish for the president to sign at the meeting this week so I would be surprised if it is going to be installed next Monday.

Hi Rosegreen

We have had more teething problems than some and very often we have been disheartened by the whole experience but the last holiday we had there (18th-30th March ) was fabulous. ( We go again in August ) -  For the first time we felt that things will eventually be great and there are alot of really good people ensuring that our community will be the best that it can be. It is a huge pity that there has been such aggravation along the way. The overall feeling whilst there was harmony and peace I suppose. It has a certain serenity about it amongst all the problems that are still to be resolved

Max, David and others spend alot of time ensuring we have a good place to live. There are various building issues that need to be dealt with which must be taken seriously and really should take precedence - ( hence the action that I feel  we should all participate in whether there is personal gain to be made or not) - but some neighbours just cannot seem to understand or appreciate that to allow everyone to just do as they please will eventually make Don Juan no different to any other ' inner city ' sort of place. We would love all  issues with regard to Sky TV  - ( me and Jan need our coronation street fix ),  - Aircon, Gardens, Blinds, Pools, barking dogs/ poo etc, and all other irritations big or small to be resolved as soon as possible but believe patience will give us the best result for the long term. Once sorted we will have one of the most desirable places to live in the area. Surely that is what we all want - Isnt it ?

The developer has been very difficult ( and that is the politest way of putting it i can think of ) - and I for one regretted the investment when things appeared to be going wrong but as previously stated the people who want to get it right need all our support as they are protecting all our long term interests and are to be applauded for sticking to their guns in meetings. It is unfortunate that this developement has taken as long as it has to complete. This has resulted in certain neighbours being impatient or inconsiderate ( selfish ?? maybe ) and they have  done as they pleased. It would be great it they reconsidered their actions for the good of the whole community as we have all invested into the dream and we would all like to continue with it.

Personally I think the forum has been a lifesaver whilst waiting for completion as sometimes it was the only place to find anything out but It has also created  worry as problems have been aired aswell but it is and will be a great place to be in the future.

The neighbours we have met already make it all worth while and we now class them as our friends  - one day soon perhaps we can have that drink together aswell with others and our community can really grow. Perhaps David may be able to arrange another party some time once Phase 2 has completed - apparantly he still has some Gin left from tha last one !

Anyway chin up it will all be worth it in the end

Hi everyone,

hank you all so much for taking the trouble to reply.  It has been a great help.  Anytime we have been on site over the past three years we have got that special feeling about the place added to its great location near beach and trains.  It really does feell like a place one could call home.  Most of the responses were positive while not ifnoring the difficulties.

It had been suggested that as the developer has overrun the completion date we should get our deposit back and look elsewhere particularly as prices have fallen.  But like many of you we like Don  Juan and dont really want to be anywhere else.  So we are going to hang in there and look forward very much to meeting you when 11 eventually gets finished,

Again many thanks for the encouragement/

regards

Rosegreen

going

Hi Rydon,

We have a 2 bed apartment also and we had a shower door fitted but first we got an extra bit of tiled plinth fitted around the shower tray and then the sliding shower doors fitted perfectly.  This had the advantage also of allowing greater room within the cubicle itself.  Gordon Trimby did it for us and his number is+34680915889.  I have to say the job turned out very well.

Regards

Hi Irene,
You misunderstood me. It's no problem at all to ask questions on EyeofSpain. The suppliers however can't  promote their services so that's why I asked you to PM me.

Does anyone know where I can get extra plastic keys for access to the garage, not the remote control ones, just the normal ones.

Hi Westport, I have just got my plastic garage key cut.  Opposite the checkouts at the Eroski supermarket in the Miramar centre it was about 10 Euros.                   Martin.
