very disappointed with our display as we didn't offer much threat all day. Thought we look tired and jaded and not much spark at all though we were playing a very strong and efficient UTD team. Maybe the small squad issue is catching up on us and it will be v diificult now to make top 4 or 5 but we'll never say die. Cup next week may offer some respite and may be our best hope of a route to Europe, we'll see. Looks like it's now UTD's to lose. Next up for them is Real Madrid and that should be very tasty indeed, and as a neutral I'm looking forward to some high class action from both teams - Ronaldo is on fire so will be interesting to see how UTD deal with him,

We never looked like we believed we could get a result at OT.

Losing Distan in the warm up was a huge blow. The second goal and the timing of it killed us. After that the game was over. EFC never play that high up, and it was a recipe for the ensuing chaos between Hettinga and Neville. The same 2 also at fault for the 1st goal. Neville has been great for us, and brings more to the club than just as a player. Heittinga is always looking to make a mistake.

I just hope our season just start to fall apart, as a small squad gets tired.

I also fear this could be Moyes final season with us. He can't keep pulling rabbits out of the hat. If he does go, I also fear that Fellaini and Baines will follow, and we could be the next Villa. Oh for some money

Mark, I am Moyes' biggest fan but you know at the end of the day if he decides he wants to move on then I'd let him go and wish him well as he has made us a team and club to be proud of. And if Baines and Felli go them the £30 - £40m we'd get would I hope be largely re-invested in the squad (though we do need a major stadium upgrade too).

There are some cracking young managers out there who would love a crack at Everton and who had heard of David Moyes when he took on the job. He would be big boots to fill though. I'd hate to think David would be remembered as the 'nearly man' at Everton and would love to see him help us lift a trophy before he takes up the reins from Fergie  (eh Dakey ?).

Now who would be on the list of contenders to take over -

Roberto Martinez / Gus Poyet / Ian Heolloway (yes !) / Duncan Ferguson (fantasy) - who else ?????

Jeb,

We have a very long history of remarkable Scottish managers, Sir Matt, Sir Alex and even the mercurial Tommy Doc who was building a great entertaining team when he made the mistake of falling for the physios wife. Before we get the usual tripe, no, it was not a Giggs like affair as they are both still together to this day. Anyway I digress, If Mr Moyes becomes the next in line then I will not be too unhappy and who knows in ten years or so Sir David Moyes has quite a ring to it doesnt it?

well done you Baggies ! That fairly lifts my mood after our result yesterday _ that Lukaku is a real powerhouse of a player. Good to see that little diver Suarez not getting rewarded for what was a really soft penalty. And what a goal from my compatriat McAuley !!!

Fellas,

With Everton now firmly installed as the dominant force on Merseyside, Spurs and Arsenal (who have finally found a backbone to go with the beautiful football) about to usurp the catastrophe that is evolving down the kings road and us swatting the very brief and unsustainable attempt by the bitters to buy their way in, then I can see a long period coming where the properly run clubs hold sway again in our league and we can look forward to informed reasoned humourous debate on here, with the vitriolic generally blue based (not Everton) diatribe consigned to the dustbin along with their immorally and most probably illegally funded clubs.

ROLL ON WEDNESDAY!!

Superb WBA last night.

Liverpool, get real, Champions league, YOURE 9th. Deluded, and living in the past. Noticed also the superb support. Anfield was almost empty by the final whistle, and those who stayed booed thier team off.

Is this really better than the past few seasons ?

Back to the blues, I would wish Moyes all the luck in the world. He owes us nothing. He has saved us from oblivion and built us the correct way over the past 10 years. Support for the board as well for letting him develop the club.

I would just hate seeing what he has carefully build over the years disapear. I can harp back to the post Hysel European ban, when we saw the team that was surely going to go on to greater things, after narrowly missing out on the 1st English treble { 1st Div Champions, Cup Winners Cup and then runners up To Man U in the FA Cup } break up, and that took us years to recover from.

However, Jeb you're correct we would recover. Once a blue, always a blue. COYB

Everton are a great example of a well run club who have not let desperation take over, even when they had to suffer being second best to Liverpool for so many years. Well look now - you're a better team than they are, you have a better manger than they do, you have better players than they do and you are a better club than they are. They only thing they have is a more trophy filled history - but that's what they are HISTORY.

Shame our local rivals haven't gone about things in the same way so they could at least earn our respect.

Hi

Whilst this thread is obvioysly dominated by the big teams and getting hold of reports of the Premier league is easy over in Spain its not so easy to keep up with lower leagues especially non league, so if any one gets the sunday non league paper then I would be grateful if you would be able to bring it over so I can keep up with my local team ( for my sins Lincoln city). It would be very much apreciated. Give me a call if any one is able to help Paul 07548806891

Celtic put to the sword by a clinical Juve. This CL game is very different and all the guts and blood and thunder won't do it at all, it's about cool heads and ability to finish. All credit to Celtic for having a go but Juve were in a different league. That was the appetiser, now for a clash of two giants - should be really exciting. I'm going for Real to win 2-1 and then Utd will have to throw everything at them in the return leg.

Fellas,

Now THAT is what you call a top top away performance in the knockout stages of the CL at the home of a top rate team. Could have lost, but also desperately unlucky not to have won and I am happy with the draw and away goal. More twists and turns to come no doubt but we just have to win a game at O/T to go through and we will take that all day long. Now to all you desperately sad boycotting blue shite, (not Everton) get the kettle on and fill your hot water bottles, tuck yourselves up in bed and dream of a performance like that as that is as close to one as you are ever going to get!

Kev,

Got up this morning to the 'stats' on sky sports. Yes, De Gea was MOM, yes we came under sustained pressure but what do you expect away at REAL MADRID! The most telling stat for me though was that we had 22 attempts at goal with 13 on target. For an away game in the Bernabeu that is an amazing stat and should give us the confidence to finish a very difficult job. Three weeks away though yet, so by that time we will have the league sewn up and Real have to play Barca twice so they could well be in crisis.

Anyway, everyone to get behind the gunners now for next week, so we can dream of a possible UTD v Arsenal final at Wembley.

Keep up the boycott blue shite (not Everton) you are not missed!

Dakey,

It was not just the performance that pleased me. There was no (or little) diving, rolling around after being tackled, requests for cards to be given, pulling/pushing in penalty areas, etc. It was played in the right spirit. I was beginning to despair after the antics in the Celtic game the night before. Anyway, onto the second leg which will be just as close I suspect!

Kev,

The frustrating thing about the bear hugging by defenders stopping players making runs is adequately covered by the rules which state that the offending player must be warned, then cautioned if it done whilst the ball is not in play, then cautioned and a penalty awarded if the ball is in play. Some refs are just ignoring the rules altogether, some are just applying the not in play part of it and all of them are ignoring the in play part of it. Why is it not as clear to the authorities and referees as it is the the watching fan? It is simple, just apply the rules as they stand there doesnt need to be a rule amendment. Caution and send off persistent offenders and award penalties. There will be some initial squealing but it will be wiped out in a matter of weeks if they do that and stick to it.

In the meantime, teams like Juve will be loathed for it and teams like UTD and REAL will be applauded for voluntarily not doing it irrespective of any edict from the powers that be.

"yes we came under sustained pressure but what do you expect away at REAL MADRID!"

Hang on a minute!!! earlier in the competition this was a poor 2nd rate team I seem to remember you saying Dakey Lad!!! LMFAO

"Now, I know you are not the brightest button in the tin, but its clear to anyone with half a brain that if you put the historic reputation of the clubs to one side, then one group of teams is on top of their game and by definition much harder to beat and the other group is struggling for any type of current form at the domestic level. So, in conclusion look at the facts and lets have no more nonsense about difficult groups. It is only difficult as all four of you are at the same low level and that is the only reason the group is competitive"

Real Madrid are a low level team arent they?????

LEST WE FORGET Eh!

Chaddy,

Nice try mate, but if you delve a little deeper you will find that I said that those four clubs were struggling for domestic form, that statement was correct then and it still is now in respect of Real Madrid and Man City. That is why I expect us to prevail over two legs against them. However, if you disect the reason for the decline in domestic form of Real Madrid you will see that they have one of the best home records in Europe and it is away performances that are affecting their domestic situation. In that context, Utds performance and result yesterday was indeed remarkable. Now if you disect the reason for the decline of City the answer is somewhat simpler..... they are just a crap team with no heart.

Dakey

By the way, nice to see a post from you that actually trys to be objective and quite imaginative and dare I say funny. Have you been watching 'people like us' from my old stomping grounds of Harpurhey and Moston, picking up conversational skills?

Does this mean your self imposed exile is at an end?

UTD now slight favs to go through but will have to be top of their game to keep Ronaldo and co from delivering a knock out punch. Great game in comparison to the awfulness of Celtic-Juve and I bet you don't want Juve in the next round.

As for the FA Cup I think a little bit of blue in the final might be ok aka Toffees vs Devils - if it is, I WILL BE THERE !

Dakey Lad,

This is what you said Quote! Unquote

all four of you are at the same low level..

Dont be a politician by wriggling around with other words and phrases to deflect now..

My exile is indeed over as I have accomplished what I needed to do

But credit where due it was a credible draw away from home but not going to be easy at the Swamp either me thinks
