Shane,
We may have beefed it up a bit in the actual finals, but not to full strength and certainly not in the games leading up to the finals. I agree with you on the postponements. With Chelseas current predicament that is probably the best result they have had for a while. Who knows when the rearranged game will be and they could well be flying by then.
Andi,
Talking of flying, just watched Sunderland and Bolton, what a good ding dong of a battle that was, enjoyed every minute of it. Our next generation of striking superstar on show in Welbeck. You have brought him on brilliantly, but it is a no win situation for you as the better he plays the less chance you have of keeping him, but he could help you do something special this season with a bit of luck.
Cheers Dakey

If the bad weather kicks in over xmas and new year the teams still in the carling cup, european leagues, and FA cup might find themselves playing a lot of back to back games in the new year.
Will mean teams either getting lucky with injuries or having good strength throughout the squad.
Not sure who I rate as the best squad of the contenders....obviously Man City have bought up large and may continue that in January.

jonew,
Congratulations on ending QPRs' long unbeaten league run and putting yourself firmly in the frame to come up..... Being a Leeds fan I am sure you will realise that your fantastic result has left Man Utd as the only unbeaten league team in the whole of British professional football going into the xmas programme! Not bad eh for a debt ridden poor side in irreversible decline.
Shane,
I agree that fixture congestion and squad strength play an important part in the run in, but another important factor is mentality. How many times have we seen teams blow up with the finishing line in sight? 'squeaky bum' time invariably sorts out the men from the boys and we have yet to see whether the new contenders have what it takes to deal with it.

We've no one to blame but ourselves. Sailing through the group complacency set in and the net result is a 2nd leg at the nou camp in first knock out stage. It could not be harder but as the old adage says you gotta play the best team at some point and no one could argue that they are not the best side out there currently. I'm always a glass half full fella and I'll be looking forward to it and you never know what can happen in football but I now the Arsenal will be massive underdogs. I still think we're doing well and you could argue better than everyone else because we're still fighting on all four fronts for now. January and February will be very interesting indeed and assuming this bleeting weather gives in the chelski match on 27th is the first opportunity for the gooners to get back on the winning trail.
All the best Jay

Well Jay, if you dont beat Chelsea at this moment you are never going to beat them. Its simple really, no more excuses, In a normal season you have lost too many games already. You still have a chance but you have got to start winning the big games consistantly.
On the Barca front, we can all see how good they are when on song, but they have struggled a few times this season against some of the lesser lights in la liga so I dont think it is as clear cut as it looks, despite my bit of banter the other day. I think if the Gunners turn up with their 'A' game and Barca dont, then it could be touch and go.

We should be well excited by this, but from putting sky news on at 6 this mornin, we've been bombarded by the facts and figures guys tellin us its 1929 since we were top at christmas. I'm sure they are just tryin to jinx us.
We are playin very well at the moment. Once Ballotelli gets his temper and stroppy behaviour under control you'll see a goalscoring superstar. You should see some of his goals in training.
Just hope we put on a performance tonight

Although you may have gathered that I'm totally against sugar daddy backed or over leveraged set ups it is a good thing that another team is for now in a position where they could go top even if it was your mob and you won't hear many gooners say that!
For too many years it has at best been a 3 horse race with usually the club with the biggest spending power coming out on top. It's very sad but it's the truth. If chelski and utd have been sucessful operating like that you can't blame city for following that type of business model, although it sickens me. Well run solvent operations like sp*urs and the arsenal have a chance but not as a greater chance. The simple fact is to Daves delight it's not a matter of if Citeh will win the league but when and Dakey & Nick know that too although they'll never admit it!! I remember forest, villa, Ipswich, arsenal, spurs, utd,Liverpool and even the Ammers all vying for top spot back in the day. That's the way it should be. There have always been the haves and have nots but it was more even than it is today. If Citeh make it top for Xmas then So be it. Is it anyworse than chelski being top I don't think so it's just the same which unfortunately is protocol for the premier league and the way it is now.
Merry Christmas one and all
Jay

I too think its great that another contender is in the mix. Unfortunately instead of an additional team fighting it out it appears City may merely have replaced Liverpool and it may remain a Top 4.
But Dave the only downside is if you are top and don't win the league everyone will remember it...but not that your rivals had games in hand.
Jay I don't think buying titles is good for any sport. And I think any rules brought in by UEFA/FA to curb overspending will be weak ones and won't do much to help things.
It looks like it may get worse as the Qatar family are apparantley rumoured to be nosing around for a club. Maybe they'll just fly in a stadium and plonk it down somewhere and just start a club.
Eventually the top teams are going to get so far ahead of the other teams or the middle and bottom teams will start going to the wall as they overspend just to survive.
But what can you do...is a salary cap the answer? But does this make it harder for English clubs to compete against the top European clubs. Does UEFA need to introduce a salary cap across all the competitions.

Dave, seems those sky news guys did jinx you.
Looking at the stats for the match you would never guess that city could have lost that game.
Then again Everton seem to love playing you lot on your home patch.

Dead right Shane. Times I wish I said nowt. Even jinxed Ballotelli. Could have had 8 easy. Thought Everton looked pretty solid though and gave us lots to do. Not seen any of the highlights but surely one of the 6 handball shouts must have been close.
I think 4 defeats this season is a maximum to lose. And it was bl**dy freezin

Dave, on another day you could have easily had a penalty or two.
In saying that Ballotelli lives dangerously...the ref missed him leading with his foot for an aerial challenge and planting it into the side of the everton player. I've seen people sent off for leading with an arm and this looked much worse than that.
Then again the ref made some funny calls/non-calls. Maybe the cold had got to him!!

Dave,
In 1929 City were top going into Xmas, last night in 2010 you had a chance to do it again. Now that is just bloody greedy, what are you trying to do? dominate English football! Football should be fun, Is that a City fans idea of fun, sitting in a half empty stadium in the freezing cold watching that dross? What do you do for an encore, tie yourselves naked to a termite mound and smear your genitals with jam?

Tell you what was funny...I'm sure I saw some idiots with their shirts off at the game. It was -9 degrees...although some had some built in insulation.
Languageses>en GoogleCE
Can someone Explain why this Happens at the games. Is it Un certain teams? I've only been to a handful of games myself and really Have not Noticed it on TV But Then It Seems to Be the done thing.

There is only one thing more reliable than an England batting collapse........that is City failing to deliver - just when things get a bit interesting, and long may it continue........but Jay my friend, you are right....I will never admit it, as I don't think it will ever happen....they are jinxed that lot from Wastelands.....34.67 years....!!

Nick,
I am finding the Eastlands saga highly entertaining from a red point of view, more worrying from a blue point of view is when the sugar daddy gets fed up shortly as he surely will, then what will happen as the Sheikh, rattles and rolls out of Eastlands.

Fellas,
I have just read Mancinis' comments about it being a strange season and that he does not know who will win the title as no team stands out from the rest. It beggars belief how these people get highly paid positions in football with statements like that. Even allowing for my slight bias, we have anything from a 5 to 10 point advantage over our 4 nearest rivals taking into account games in hand [that have to be won, i know] and wheras the rest have all lost 4 or even 5 games we have not lost any. Now by any interpretation and accepting we have not been at our best at times, how Utd can be bracketed with the rest is beyond me. Just what do you have to do to be recognised as a stand out team? Do any of you think that you can give a three game start to Utd in a 19 or 20 game season, which is what it now comes down to, and peg us back? if you do you must also still believe in father christmas and fairies.
Cheers dakey
