Just been reading an article about who has the best academies in the PL based on a number of criteria. It appears that on the main criteria and that being players coming through the academy to feature in the first team then Arsenal are joint top with 9 players closely followed by Utd with 8 players. That is how it is done at properly run clubs. Now, the bought and paid for clubs dont fare too well with Chelsea at 4 players but the lamentable hapless floundering bitters after spending an absolute fortune revamping their academy (paid for by money they saved from not having to purchase a stadium) are rock bottom with just ONE! yes ONE!! player. The lesson there has to be it doesnt matter how much money you throw at it if players dont want to play for you then it is a big waste of that money.

Dakey,
Had it not been for Newton Heath you guys would most probably have opted for the name Man City, you should be grateful to them.

Hep,
There were two railway yards at the time and one had a ground in newton heath (newton heath loco) and the other which went on to become Utd was the engineering yard and their ground was in Moston. Later the location of Moston Brook school (now closed). I attended that school from its opening day as a new school until leaving for work without ever knowing it was hallowed ground. Us locals always thought that the old newton heath loco ground was Utds old ground until it was investigated and confirmed that Utd actally started in Moston not Newton Heath. Indeed there is now a plaque in place on the site of Moston Brook school, now an industrial park stating that Utd played at that spot. Now, being a Moston lad that makes me even more proud of my club, if that is possible.

Dakey,
In the deep and distant past, when we used to play Man Utd, I only had to phone the personel officer of Carborundum Abrasives on Trafford Park Road, who were clients of my firm, he organised a reserved parking space for me in their car park, happy days.

I see Utd are on course to be the first team in football history to gross over £500 million in one season this year That is even with our tickets at the mid to lower end of pricing in the PL. Imagine if we charged what Arsenal and Spurs charge to get in! That is all earned income by the way, not a rich benefactor anywhere in sight.

just enjoying some early morning reading on Sky, Utd have had over 70% of their squad playing internationals this past week, the highest percentage of any club in the whole of Europe. On top of that Utd have the highest win percentage of everyone in Englands top flight since the football league started in 1888 at 48% followed by Liverpool on 46% and Arsenal on 45%........and notice not a bought and paid for little club playing at being a big club anywhere in sight!

For once I agree with Dakey!
We are not in sight as we are soooo far far away from you that the hubble telescope wont even see us.
Enjoy mediocrity scrapping for final champions league spots while the big teams fight for the title!

Have you ever witnessed a more heart warming saturday afternoons football? On the one hand you have an injury ravaged Utd bolstered by a plethera of Academy kids grinding out a supurb win at a very tough place to go and then we witness the rag tag patchy bitters support trudging out of the Emptihad heading for the local east Manchester soup kitchens to debate the demise of their underachieving overpaid team at the hands of a rampant Liverpool. Then we have Arsenal being....well just Arsenal. Have you ever seen a team flatter to deceive with such determined consistancy?
King Louis said it would take him no more than a year or so to be competing with City at the top again, He didnt realise that it would be Leicester City though.

While we are preparing for a crucial week in the CL followed by a TOP OF THE TABLE crunch game at the deserved leaders that could see us go clear at the top...............It has all gone quiet over there, oh its all gone quiet over there etc etc!!

Well we played crap, had one third of the possession, went deservedly one goal down and ended up winning 3-1, can't be bad.
Is Claudio Ranieri the real special one, by the way?

Dakey,
I'd much rather face The Potters than Charlton, we'll hopefully up our game for what should be a one off in their thoughts, but we all know what thought did don't we? The last time we did well in this competition we beat Man Utd in the final and won promotion to the top league in the same year, bring it on.
Please don't mention our Arsenal League Cup Final, where we were crap, infact we were so bad I had forgotten it, hence the edit.
